"Good. Was just..." He paused and decided to drop it. "Good."
He moved again, circling as he got a good shot. Close quarters was hard as he didn't want to shoot Al or Horace. It was astounding that between them, this Jan wasn't even slightly fatigued. True, they weren't full hunters but there should have been some damage. It made him worried. Alone in the dark with an unknown that didn't tire.
He fired Saliva but as it hit, so did It.
HP: 40/50 Chrg: 1/3 Quote: Jan clone: HP: 40/40 Autodamage: +5 when attacking (even if not successful) No damage is done and HP regenerates after each attack. An attack of 10+ will remove one limb. Limbs: 2/2

The clone, and his mind knew it was a clone and not Jan, looked exactly like Jan, although it was more reptilian than graceful. Horace didn't think he could do this.. He tried to summon up some of the righteous fury everyone said he should feel towards Jan, but all he felt was hollow. Sometimes, he thought it would be easier to always feel so blank. "I... I don't know if I can... do this." HP: 25/40 DMG: 0 CHG: 0/3

Melvin narrowed his eyes, trying to get a good shot. "Why?" He asked, shifting and then firing a shot.
The shot hit, but this Jan only moved in to swipe at him, slashing at his shield bare handed. It had no weapon to hurt them, but it seemed to not be phased by his shot.

"B-because it looks like him!" The clone came forward, hands outstretched. Horace knocked it away with a wince.

Melvin moved past Horace to go around the other side of the Other Jan. "It looks. We checked. It can't summon. It looks like Jan but it isn't him. We saw him locked away in that fu-" He gritted his teeth. "...in the pod back home. He's safe as being in a pod can be."
He rose his gun, feeling that rising anger flicker and get him in the mood for destroying something bit by bit. It helped to imagine that it was somehow the clone's fault. That this imposter somehow made Jan get into trouble and be locked away from the conscious world. It helped because if Melvin wasn't aiming at this target in the pit, he might be tempted to hit someone else.
"You talked to him last after all. I didn't even get that chance. You should know better at least." He fired again and jerked back as the clone whipped around to hit him. Maybe if Horace could imagine Taym's insufferable face instead of Jan's... It was easier to paint Taym and America as more cruel - they hadn't shown him the same kind of kindness that Jan had. And even if Jan was empty.. Horace shook his head and stuck out, swallowing the bile that rose in his throat.
"It's an experimental pod, so, no, it's not safe." At Melvin's words, he shuddered. "I got to talk to him last, yeah, but I paid for it."

"What's safer? Out during a mission, out on the island, or in a pod? Safe isn't exactly a place we live. If there was a safe place for us, I would have found it. I would have found it and put Rin there." He said, gritting his teeth at Horace as he turned the gun against the side of his head.
"I saw you injured but I saw Jan podded. You said you fought. You fought at his place. Then you guys.....I don't even know what it was in that cave. You BOTH paid for it. Don't make yourself the only victim here, Horace. Not when Jan is in that pod."
He gritted his teeth, looking at the clone and frowning, eyes narrowing as his insides ripped.
"If Jan was here.....we wouldn't even think this clone was anything other than a clone."
And who's fault was that?
"We could actually talk to him."
He gripped Saliva tightly.
"See him..."
Smell her.
Touch her.
"Save her..."
Hold her against him.
He squeezed the trigger and a bright green round of wet plasma hit his shield and dissolved against his head.

Even as Melvin continued to talk, Horace lashed at the clone. A litany of 'not Jan, this is not Jan' played in his head: a not entirely comforting static. It countered back stiffly, looking as though it ran of reactions and nerve impulses.
'Don't make yourself the only victim here, Horace.'
Maybe Melvin was right. No, Melvin was right. Everyone had said it, he'd only gotten what he'd asked for, what he deserved. He looked at his hand and the missing space between his middle and pinkie fingers. He remembered how even the soft press of sheet was too much against his sore chest at first. He thought of the nightmares that, even now, had him swallowing hard against phantom chains wrapped around his throat.
"You think I don't know that?" He burst out, chest shuddering. "Even if I hadn't gone to talk to him about America... even if... I just wanted...."

He stood there, not moving, watching as the Jan clone stopped again, watching them. He almost wanted to leave it alone, to just stay here and watch it move, breathe or at least in some sembalance of action taht looked like breathing, and just be near him.
He wanted a moment, a private moment, to just pretend. To pretend this Jan was real. That this Jan was the one back home, and that he could reach out, hold it, and let Rin return to him.
But he wasn't that delusional. This was a fake and putting his emotions into an imposter would cheapen his feelings and only be insulting to the real Rin.
But the desire was there, tempting him to just take it, but he couldn't let it go.
He looked to Horace now, who went quiet.
"You two.....that didn't' seem like you two." They had both been kind to him. Nice and gentle. "I can't imagine that that even happened. And now.." He paused. "....you two are together. Why would you two act that way? To the person you love? Don't you know they could be taken from you at any moment? Why make that happened?"
Why would they want to not cherish that company? Why would they want to be alone?
"Why did you two hurt each other?"

"But Jan doesn't, you see. He doesn't love and he can't." His voice was soft and full of a kind of quiet desperation, the kind that comes when someone is so lost, but trying to find their second wind. "T-that's all I wanted-" He cut himself off as Jannisari remind him that his shield was low. Slowly, he touched the two tekkos together, sending a spark arcing high into the air. To Melvin, he shot a hard look.
"Why do you ******** care so much anyway? I thought you understood," The heal crashed around him, momentarily taking his sight.

"I don't believe that. You were dating him. You must have thought he could love you if you were with him." But then again, Jan had never mentioned Horace as being with him. He never said he was with him or said he was involved that intimately with someone.
But Jan had given himself to Melvin for the sake of Melvin and Rin. It might not have been love that caused it, but it was a type of kindness and self-sacrifice that showed a strong emotion. A pure one that he didn't expect many people to have.
"I don't understand when both of you have been kind to me. I don't understand when I saw you like this and saw Jan like that. He never showed himself to be like that when I was with him. If anything, he was sweet and kind. He was anything if not loving and caring."
But.....hadn't he thought it was weird that Rin loved him? Hadn't he still be struggling with it?
And hadn't Rep seemed kind and sweet only to show he wasn't? That he would kill him if it suited his needs. That he would give up on those who were intimate and close to him when they needed him most. When Rin needed him now.
"I don't get why you would start a fight with him? Couples fight. I fight with Rin all the time. But that - what you guys did. That doesn't make any sense to me."
He turned to this Jan and fired and it moved, lashing out to nick his arm.
Touching his arm, he looked across at Horace. "It makes me wonder what kind of person you really are. I mean - do I even know you are or are you lying like everyone else is?"

"You don't understand? I don't ******** understand!" Horace felt all the hate and resentment and confusion bubble up inside of him, choking the words that fought to leave his lips. "We fought because he was still stalking America, okay?! And he thought I'd stepped out of place." Horace's fists curled and his whole body shook - he didn't want to talk about this; he didn't want to have to examine and relive everything again. But Melvin was making him. Melvin - whom Horace had thought would understand, whose blind devotion to Rin seemed unshakable and something they could both understand. Breathing heavily, he struck out at the clone. Even angry, he felt gilt when his fists hit that pale flesh - he'd never wanted to hurt Jan. Never. "He's incapable of love, he says." The clone lashed out, an arm connecting solidly with Horace's stomach. "I'm the same as I ever was, Melvin." It hurt, of course, to have Melvin, his friend, disbelieve him. He was used to it from others, used to censure, too. But he thought he was safe with Melvin - to talk about things without worry. HP: 21/40 DMG: 5 CHG: 1/3
