He'd been uncertain and flustered during their dinner, easily drawn into Lydia's magnetic enthusiasm, her cheerful demeanor, her eagerness to see anything and everything. The way her hands felt in his, the smile that made her nose crinkle up, made her entire face light up like she was something straight from the sun, and sometimes it was blinding, in a good way; and sometimes it was blinding, in an unbelievable way.

The wind gusted through their hair and clothes, gentle and soothing. Arorangi slowed his steps and turned to face her while Lydia was talking, standing directly in front of her so that he could see her face to face. Her flustered replies only made her more endearing, but his smile remained gentle; and after a few moments his other hand reached out to take hers, lacing their fingers together so that both of their hands were now entwined.

He took a step towards her.

"I think," said Arorangi lightly. "That you are a fantastically amazing woman. And that I enjoy your company a lot as well, aroha."

Another step.

"I think that Oliver is my best mate, and that I enjoy others heaps as well."

Another step. He was now only a few inches away from her, looking down at Lydia with a gentle smile. One of his hands pulled free of hers, lifted and cradled her face with tender gestures, thumb sweeping over her cheek and her warm skin.

"I also think," said Arorangi softly, and his voice was barely above a whisper now, and he seemed to be leaning towards her. "That you are the most beautiful person that I have ever met, and that you smell like flowers and sunshine, and that your heart is filled with so much love for the world you live in and for the people around you."

His fingers slid down her jaw, tilted her chin up so that their faces were mere inches apart.

"And I think about you more than anyone else here, and would very much like to keep thinking of you," whispered Arorangi with a smile.

And then he kissed her.

Her mind was a whirl wind of confused feelings and worries, but when ever she looked up at Aro's face, even though her heart beat faster at the sight, she instantly felt a little bit better, her anxiety and trepidation easing away. It was as if his calm fed into her, making it easier for her to breathe, to think, to process just what was going on at that moment. As she continued to stare at him, she felt that she could almost lose herself completely in his gentle gaze, so much so that it almost didn't register at all when he took her other hand in his, before he then stepped closer towards her, closing some of the distance between them.

Even while feeling less worry, she still shifted on her feet, fighting to take a step back away from him as she suddenly felt alarm bells ringing in her head. He was only complimenting her, however, and that was nothing new or spectacular (her heart swelled in protest, the butterflies rising anew). She could feel her cheeks burn, but her lips pulled up into a smile, and she opened her mouth to tell him that he was, as always, very kind to say so.

But he stepped in even closer and the words died on her tongue, her mouth snapping closed. He was very close now, or at least, so it felt. There was still at least half a step between them, maybe more. Her fingers tightened around his unconsciously, confused again as he mentioned Oliver, and friendships with others.

Again she thought to speak, and again was silenced by another step that left them just inches apart. She thought that she could feel the heat radiating off of Aro's body (or maybe that was just her). He pulled one of his hand's free, and it was then that she realized just how tightly she was holding on, and she let out a small sound in her throat, something almost apologetic, as she finally looked down towards the ground, feeling like at any moment she might melt into an embarrassed puddle on the sand.

But his hand lifted her face back up, an incredibly gentle and kind gesture, warmth brushing over her skin. Again, she felt the need to balk, to step away, to--to--to...

"That's...that's really not..." Necessary. He was saying such wonderful things that could not possibly be true, but were so lovely to hear. Lovely enough that her chest felt like it might actually burst. Lovely enough that her breath had caught, and held, until she found it in her to speak.

It was hard to speak, however, when lips were suddenly pressed against hers. Her eyes widened, a shriek of surprise built up rapidly in her throat, threatening to escape. She thought to pull away, to break this magnetic hold he had over her and run. This wasn't okay. This shouldn't have been happening. She wasn't worth this, was not this beautiful woman he made her out to be. This was so wrong.

She didn't scream, however and she did not pull away. For a moment, there was just a bit of hesitation. She'd never been kissed before, after all. Never thought she would be. Never really imagined what she would do if it even happened, because it was so far from the realm of realistic thought for her. But before it ended, her eyes closed, and she leaned into it, her hand, previously freed, reaching out to, quite tentatively, brush against Aro's side, before deciding it was okay to rest it there, needing that extra support since it seemed like her legs might have just turned to jello beneath her, trembling so much that she was likely to fall over.

To be perfectly honest, Arorangi was entirely winging it.

He'd had a few girls before that he'd thought were pretty, mostly childhood friends that he'd grown up with and, over time, had thought perhaps it might be fun to date them. But that was as far as most of his thoughts had gone, because while interested, he had not ever been that interested. Arorangi had spent much of his time instead taking care of his father, taking care of their home; and after he had come to the states, there wasn't anyone that even fell into the possibilities category.

This time, however, was different. Lydia was different.

For a few seconds after he kissed her, she didn't move. Arorangi had a moment where he thought that she would push him away, that she didn't want this after all, that her words had just been that - words. But then her shoulders seemed to relax, and one hand was against his side, and Arorangi felt a smile begin to curve his lips upwards against hers.

It was a gentle kiss, light and tender, hardly the sort of intense thing that one might see in the movies. Arorangi's fingers slid down Lydia's cheek and jaw, and he pulled back, just a fraction, before pressing a second, very tender kiss before easing away entirely. The hand that had been on her face now slipped to rest against Lydia's waist, and he freed his other hand from hers to match, holding her in place close to him.

His eyebrows rose, a flicker of uncertainty flashing through Arorangi's eyes for the first time.

"Lydia?" he said softly, almost worriedly.

It was probably a good thing that the kiss was light. It was probably all that Lydia could handle at that moment without fainting. As it was, after the first kiss ended, she felt incredibly light headed, so much so that the second nearly wasn't even felt (it was though, of course it was, the way it sent goosebumps racing down her spine was impossible to ignore). It was shorter then the first, however, and when he pulled away she stood there for some time, her breath still caught in her throat, her eyes still closed, her lips just slightly puckered.

It was a good thing for those hands of his, moving to support her at her waist, as her head spun and her legs continued to shake.

It was his voice that roused her enough for her eyes to flutter open, for breathing to commence again, starting with a sharp, gasping intake.

"You!" She breathed out, her eyes suddenly wide again. "You kissed me!" She stared up at him, blinked a few times rapidly, "You...." She closed her eyes completely, swaying on her feet under the heat of the sun that she now felt was beating down upon her, before sinking forward, her face resting against Aro's chest.

"You kissed me...." She laughed then, a shrill sound, all nervous joy and uncertainty.

For a moment, he thought he might have broken her.

A second later, it was decided that he had.

Arorangi's brows rose in surprise, trying to interpret whether Lydia's expression was one of horror, surprise, a mix of both, or something else entirely. "Yes, me," he said with a laugh, shifting his feet a little. "I kissed you, very good aroha, I am glad that you are able to tell that it was a kiss."

His eyes were twinkling with amusement, and then Lydia had sunk against him, and Arorangi wrapped his arms around her, pulling her against his broad chest so that he could bend and push his face into her hair, inhale her scent and the scent of saltwater around them.

"I kissed you," he said again, and smiled. "Did you like it?"

Even having never been kissed before in her life (parents and grandparents didn't count!) she at least would recognize one when it smacked her, quite literally, on the face. When Arorangi explained what he indeed had done, she could feel the rumble of his chest beneath her cheek while he spoke, and her face broke out into a rather goofy grin, one hand reaching up to slap him lightly, playfully, against his chest, and she let out a breathless laugh again, using her hand to push herself away enough to look at him again, her face a deep red.

"If I say yes will you do it again?" She asked, the words coming out with barely a thought.

He smoothed his large hands up and down her back in gentle motions, attempting to ease her back into a state of comfort once more. Lydia's personality was one of the reasons he liked her as much as he did, and even though she was skittish and nervous, and her face flushed with confusion and a great deal more emotion, he drank it all eagerly in, happily and excitedly.

Arorangi moved one hand from Lydia's back to cover the hand she'd slapped his chest with, fingers curling together. He took a step toward her, bringing them, if even possible, closer together, lowering his face so that it was right in front of Lydia's.

"Are you saying yes?" he asked teasingly, lips a breath away from hers.

Ohhhhhhhhkay this was a little intense.

Lydia's eyes widened behind glasses that already made her eyes look huge and owl like as Arorangi lowered his face down towards her. It was an effort not to let out a small squeak and bury her face against his chest again, as her heart began to race in her chest and her head began to swim a little.

This was too much. Too much too muchtoomuchtoomuchtoomuch.....

"Yes." She found herself breathing out instead, the fingers of the hand now trapped beneath his clutching at Aro's shirt, at the firm chest beneath it.
