Chance did not appreciate being in the middle of any drama, so anything that stemmed into complications was both unwanted and unpleasant. He mostly tried to steer clear of things that would turn bad, but there was never really any predicting these things.

"You're right," he said, turning his fork over. "I didn't care. He wanted it for the lay, I was there, I figured it would be a good time for all, but he neglected to add the small detail of a fiancee, and that isn't cool. I'm not about homewrecking," Chance said, shaking his head. "That s**t's pretty out of bounds."

He ate another bite and considered this.

"About people, or just about things in general?"

That was a nice morale code at least. Not about the homewrecking. That was respectable.

During the conversation, Claude set her plate and spoon aside and slid off the counter. She moved down until she arrived at one of the large fridges. Opening the doors, she leaned in and started to rummage through. She found someone's half hidden behind some vegetables six pack of root beer, and decided it'd do. She pilfered two and returned, placing one next to Chance on the counter before she slid back up into her spot across from him.

"Both." She stated, twisting the cap off of her soda. "Start with things in general."

Chance gave a nod to Claude as thanks for the root beer, chewing thoughtfully on his next bite of curry.

"I suppose I cared about my mother, at some point in time," he said, stirring his fork around his dish in an idle sort of way. Rather than sound angry or upset about this, he almost sounded amused. "She had her good points, and I do think she cared, in her own way. But that caring stopped after Candidate #3."

He shrugged, taking another bite. "Oh, my bad, you said start with things. Well, obviously I care a lot about stars," Chance said with a lazy grin, pointing skyward with his fork. "And while I don't enjoy shopping a whole lot, I do care about being comfortable in my clothes."

A pause.

"Does that answer your question?"

"It vaguely answers my question, yes." She took a swig of the root beer before she capped it again and placed it off to the side. Claude picked up her plate again. "What about now? Things and people."

She took another bite as she waited again.

Chance paused with his fork halfway to his mouth.

"Are you trying to get information from me about how I feel about people on the island?" he asked her, tilting his head and giving Claude a lazy, almost knowing smile.

She resisted the urge to roll her eyes at what she considered to be a slating of her questions to a juvenile notion.

"I'm asking about how you feel now because it's relevant to the present." Claude quirked a brow at him. "Enlightening me solely about past you doesn't answer the question of present you, which I'm currently in the company of." Though knowing the other stuff was good, and it helped give a better understanding of someone, it didn't answer the now, and Claude was all about the present.

"My bad, I totally thought you were digging for some gossip or s**t," Chance deadpanned, forking another bite into his mouth. "But to answer your question..."

He shrugged one shoulder. "There are people I would disappointed about if they weren't here. I find I've made some good connections with certain ones, present company included," he added, smirking at Claude. "I'm not so sure about the actual caring part, though, I'm not exactly wired like a teddy bear."

"I just love to gossip."

She also glanced around for something she could possibly throw at him, but found nothing, alas. A chunk of rice was tempting, but it was good food, and it'd be a sin to waste. She snorted softly. No. Chance was absolutely a teddy bear.

Not.

Claude gave a soft thoughtful hum as she pushed what was left of her curry and rice to one side of the plate to make it easier to scoop. "You don't need to be a teddy bear to care." Saying teddy bear outloud seemed kind of funny.

"Look, you rhymed," said Chance winningly, then wondered if he could possibly use his plate as a shield in case Claude decided to get violent and throw something at him.

"No, I don't, it's true," he said, "But I'm still not sure what exactly caring accomplishes other than getting in a whole lot of s**t."

"Rhymes only happen some times." Luckily for Chance, Claude did not feel the need to throw anything at him again. Yet.

She did snicker softly though at that sentiment, because she couldn't disagree with it. Caring did get her into a whole lot of s**t, but how did one explain 'well, there's bad s**t and good s**t', and that s**t somehow enriches your life. It can suck at times, but it's still good somehow. It wasn't something she felt could be properly put into words.

"You haven't gotten into the right kind of s**t yet." She smirked a bit, eyes cast down at her plate.

Chance just snorted.

"What exactly constitutes 'the right kind of s**t?'" he asked, with his mouth full, having just taken another bite of his curry. "I mean, there are people here I like, isn't that how it works, the whole friendship and caring thing?"

Clearly Chance was missing several aspects.

Of course he had to ask that question. Claude ponder how to give an answer that seemed solid, or at the very least (hopefully) make sense, but then he spoke again and--

She stilled, her eyes darting up to look at him.

Was he joking or...

She narrowed her eyes at him.

Something told her he wasn't. Wow. Alright. Hm. She had overestimated his grasp on these subjects. She sighed softly. "Chance, I could drive a semi through the hole of your understanding of friendship and caring."

Explaining. Talking. Her favorite thing ever. "I like the hunter who makes grilled ham and cheese sandwiches on Thursdays in the Cafeteria--" Claude started. "But it doesn't mean I want to be her friend, or that I care." Okay, one point down.

He just looked at her with a blank expression.

"I don't get what you mean," Chance said slowly, lowering his fork back into his dish and giving Claude a mildly suspicious look, though there was a slight smile on his face. "You mean to say that there's a difference between the two?"

"It's a good thing you're so pretty."

A good re-deeming quality. She was teasing. Sort of.

"Yeah. There is." Her eyes lidded. "Just because you like someone doesn't mean you're friends. You can like someone and not be friends." She felt like she was explaining this to a child. Claude tilted her head quirking a brow at him. "Also, for someone who's utterly curious about love, you're pretty ******** clueless." Yeah, someone was back-reading on Twitter.

"Yes, my best and worst trait altogether," said Chance, in a mock tragic voice. He stirred around the last dregs of his curry, trying to pick which part of it he was going to save for last to eat.

His head lifted, a smirk on his lips. Chance pointed his fork in Claude's direction and sprayed a little curry on the floor in the process.

"Someone's been spying on conversations between myself and the good Doctor Morris," he said amiably. "And Rep too, actually, but anyway, yes, I was curious about love, and I'm curious about friends and people in general, though I'm told I 'sound like a toneless robot' when I make comments about my observations."

He shook his head in amusement, eating a bite of chicken.
