Content the starfish was getting at least one, Claude's gaze shifted towards the creature, who always had a pause before it ate. This was learned through dropping into the tank quite a few chips already. Slowly, the legs started to curl up around the chip before it's entire body curled up into something resembling a parachute. It was also during this time, the starfish's other mutation, aside from the two additional legs not common to its species, was shown. It's squid like beak. Which the chip was pulled to, and then it proceeded to break it up and consume it.

Pleased to watch that small fascination once more, Claude shifted her attention back to Chance. "Obviously." She deadpanned. "Your first one, as well. Your second was not using your pendant sooner." Her usually impassive expression had a small edge to it as she stared at him. She was not the type to restate what should have been obvious, much less others' mistakes (unless you were Lex), but Chance had been rather reckless. Unnecessarily reckless. There had been nothing to gain from Chance taking chances in this particular situation.

It was like she cared or something.

Chance watched C.J. in utter fascination.

"Now that," he said, gesturing to the tank and wincing. "is ******** awesome. I definitely approve of you calling him my legacy from now on. Please do feel free to call it that in appreciation of my amazing talents and fantastic unique personality."

He pushed open the top again and dropped another chip in.

"I forgot about the pendant," said Chance truthfully, and then shrugged. "Well, at least until like, the last minute. I know it's stupid going back there by myself, but, well...the curious cat and all that s**t, I can't seem to not be curious about stuff."

"Not-so-peachy? I assume that's your cracked ribs, or...?" Lex asked with a funny smile, pen aimed at the clipboard like a dart. If there were any chance to know this boy more, now was the perfect opportunity.

"Another you thing you both have in common--" Aside from amazing talents and a fantastic and unique personality "--Is the lack of a centralized brain."

Burn. Also in the running for 2k15 sassiest.

Inwardly she was amused though that Chance was now impressed with the starfish, and fed it another chip. She watched the chip float down to touch one of it's legs again, and waited. "Mn." Ah, well. She wasn't going to sit here and rake him over the coals. She supposed what mattered was that he was still alive, fine for the most part, and the the creature he was fighting had been generous. C.J.'s arms curled up once more around the chip, and it repeated the same actions as before to consume it.

"How long are you here for?"

Armed to the teeth with a box of each girlscout cookie flavor in a big ol' box, Felicia bobbed on in, chewing gum and blowing bubbles as pleasant as could be.

"B-buh-brought snacks," she crowed, flopping into a a chair next to Chance, doing a very fine impression of a bag of bones. "C-can only have two though! P-pick your p-poison?"

Brownie bites

She just sort of stared at him for a moment, a little startled. For as much confidence as she walked around with, it had taken a considerable beating over the last few weeks. Insecurities she thought she'd buried years ago were peeking up, and she hated it. The compliment was unexpected, and sounded entirely genuine. It made her smile, gratefully, the color lingering on her cheeks. "Thank you." What else could she say?

"Reapers are tricky bastards, at least the ones that look mostly human." She watched him eating the brownies, happy it seemed as though he were enjoying them. "I'll keep an eye out in the future. If I run into any spear wielding, sassy reapers I'll send her through a wall for you." Here she'd grin brightly, chuckling softly before sinking back a little in the chair.

"I'm sure your weapon is working hard to fix the damage." She'd been in this position before, and she knew exactly how frustrating it could be. "You just have to be patient and trust them. I lost the use of my arm once, for about a month, when I did get mobility it came back slowly." Almost absently her hand came up to cup over the scar that rested under the collar of her shirt. "But I'm at 100% now."

He was a Sun, he was strong. "I trust you'll manage to adapt until your mobility returns as well." And if he needed help figuring out how, she would be happy to lend a hand.

"Cracked ribs and a few bruises," said Chance with an easy smile, trying to decipher what the look on Lex's face actually meant. "My ego is probably one of those bruised things, since I knew better than to go by myself, but at least I managed to get out of there safely."

Chance just gave Claude a Look. And another middle finger.

"Dunno," came the noncommittal answer, Chance munching on another chip before he set the bag aside. He stretched out a hand and reached instead for the plastic container of food, wincing a little at the small movement. "Maybe a few days? Hopefully not more than that, it's shitty to be stuck in here."

girl scouts

Chance only slightly recognized the girl that came to visit him; and he might not have at all, had she not been carrying an armful of girl scout cookies in her arms, a fact that made a pleased smile spread across his face. He tried to sit up a little, winced, and then laid back down.

"Coconut," he said decisively. "So Samoas, definitely, and those peanut butter ones, I forgot what they're called."

"You're welcome," came Chance's easy reply. He flashed a look over at Peyton, catching the color on her cheeks, the smile on her face. "For the record, I'm not one for lying or flattery, as people soon find out. I've never really figured out why anyone thinks that sort of thing is necessary."

He gave a little shrug. "Things just are what they are."

The brownies were delicious and warm. Chance finished off the one he had and reached for another. "Thanks for that," he told Peyton with a wink. "I appreciate anyone who says they've got my sad, pathetic back when it comes to fighting at the moment."

Asher was indeed working hard to fix the damage, the weapon making soft sounds of encouragement in his head. "I do trust them," said Chance lightly. "Out of everyone here on the island, Ace is the only thing I do fully trust, really, but that's neither here nor their. But hopefully I'll figure out how to adapt fast, I'm usually pretty good at that sort of thing."

Claude was just smug, and it radiated in her small smirk.

She knew she was number 1, Chance. She knew.

"Ah." She could imagine. No telescope for nightly star viewings for him...much less anything else. "How have you been passing time?" Claude questioned, pausing as she glanced around briefly. "Do you want some books?"

The Late Shift

Just as he had told Chance on twitter, Finn had a shift later that night.

Much later that night. As in, middle of the night later. Finn didn't really mind, however. It wasn't like he did much sleeping anyways. If he wasn't here, he would undoubtedly be outside running or inside drinking or playing video games or, lets face it, screwing (possibly even all of the above throughout the night).

And while his job that evening was basically to keep on eye on things, monitor patients, and pretty much sit tight unless he was needed since just about everybody was asleep, he knew of at least one individual who would likely be wide awake.

It only took him a moment of checking charts to find out where his target would be, and after a few preliminary instructions from the person on shift before him, he made his way directly to Chance's partitioned off area of the infirmary.

Sliding the curtain back, Finn made his way in and sat himself down in the nearest chair.

"Good evening, idiot. So tell me, what did this to you this time?"

Shush your sassy face, Claude, he was onto you.

Chance gave a little shrug that made him wince, prying open the container and then looking for the fork to actually eat the food with. "Drawing, mostly," he said, finally locating it and digging in. "A bit of observation. Sleeping. A few others have come to keep me company."

He glanced sideways at her, mouth full of food. "I never say no to good books," Chance answered grandly. "Also this is delicious."

the late shift

Chance was awake, of course; because sleeping at three or four had been an ingrained habit of his for the past five years at least, and he now had difficulties separating from that. The insomnia ran strongly in his veins, which was why, when the curtains around his bed slid open sometime in the middle of the night, the face and person on the other side was both unsurprising to Chance and welcome.

He smiled.

"Evening to you as well, Finn Connor," he said lightly. The bruise directly on his forehead was mostly hidden behind his dark and messy curls, a few bandages visible from beneath the over-large hospital gown he was wearing (by protest). He shifted a little and winced.

"Not one of those Horsemen," said Chance, after a moment. "A reaper, I think is what people have been telling me. She had a giant spear and a huge chip on her shoulder."

She dipped her head a bit in a nod, to show she was listening. Sounded like typical infirmary-like activities from what she gathered. "I'll bring some later after my shift." She murmured, in regards to the books, and then smirked a bit. "I'll pass that along to my brother...or maybe you'll see him. He haunts the infirmary, after all."

She seemed amused at that, and looked thoughtful for a moment.

"Do you want me to bring anything else, later?"
