He had a nice smile, contagious, and she found herself smiling brighter for it, or maybe the wink. Possibly both. With a soft hum she leaned to rest her elbows on the ledge again, glass cradled between both hands, and it might have just been coincidence, the soft curve of her back, the angle of her hips. An effortless form of flirting that was often times unintentional until right up until the moment it wasn't. "Not that I know of, though there are folks that just sort of disappear. I'm told their transferred to other bases, but..." One shoulder rolled, half a shrug, as she tapped a nail against the rim of her glass.

"Oh, thank you for that, then." It came with a little puff of a breath like the cousin of a laugh, Lukas rotating to follow her lead: elbows on the roof, now, and his shoulder just brushing hers. Like this, he didn't loom. It put them on the same level. "Excellent reassurance."

"Oh good! That's what I was going for." Cheeky little s**t. She smirked, giving his shoulder a good-natured bump with her own. There was a slight lull as she nursed her drink for a moment, but her smile was softer as the glass lowered again. It definitely wasn't perfect, but at a glance the island looked like a little slice of paradise. Warm, starry skies, white beaches, lush jungle. Deceptively picturesque, if you didn't linger on the militaristic touches or the ruined town. "This place used to be covered in fog." It came seeming out of the blue. "There was a force field that acted as a layer of protection, but it trapped in Fear rich fog that made everything really hazy, kind of chilly." Her head tipped as she looked out over the island, and it sent curls sliding along her shoulder. "Something happened and the shield is gone now, but we got the sun." Not the perfect trade off, considering the Titans that had come with it, but they were under control now.

"Is that your way of saying things might be bad, but at least you have sunshine?" Lukas chewed on that, head cocked a little to one side to look up toward the sky -- and, of course, it was dark now, no sun in this moment. It meant he leaned in against her again, absently, close, and he smelled like the kitchen in a mixed way. Smoke and what few spices they had. "I suppose that is a benefit." And this time, at least, his tone was serious, like he was counting his blessings.

"I guess so," she mused, giving an amused hum. Being a hunter was a hard life, there weren't many silver linings. You either learned to look for them, to cherish them, or you turned into a bitter shell of the person you used to be. Peyton was working really hard at keeping it all together, at least for that moment she wasn't having much trouble succeeding. He was leaning against her again, and her smile slipped just a touch, more thoughtful, as she seemed to realize it, aware now of just how close he was standing. She tipped her head to the side, the edge of her jaw dipping to rest against the edge of her glass, as pale eyes took in his profile. "And we also can't forget the stars." They were faint over head, now, but as the light faded they'd get brighter and brighter. Away from the lights of any city, the sky above Deus was the most beautiful she'd ever seen.

Dutifully, he looked -- attention flicking upward, muscles shifting under his shirt as he adjusted his posture, twisting the glass between his hands and downing that much more whiskey. It left Lukas warm and slow and comfortable as his eyes dropped back down to meet hers. "Yes. It is, at least, a prison with a glass roof, and I won't pretend I don't appreciate that." He appreciated it more than most, even. Slowly, he offered her another smile.

And just maybe the stars weren't the only thing out tonight worth looking at. A flick of pale eyes as muscles moved beneath the cover of his shirt. Not staring, but certainly admiring before his voice pulled her attention up in time to catch that smile. "Mmhmm," she'd agree, returning the smile as she tipped her glass against for another sip. Buzzed herself, warm and delightfully fuzzy. "There's something to be said for enjoyable company as well." Peyton chuckled, swirling the remainder of her drink around in her glass. "Not everyone, mind. But a few diamonds in the rough."

"I won't pretend I don't appreciate that, too." It came with a flash of his eyes over her, teasing maybe, understanding [or perhaps inventing] some kind of subtext beneath the words. Absently, he offered her the bottle, but at this point they'd probably both had enough. "I'm glad you came around. I've been about losing my mind, I thought I'd be locked inside forever." After a moment, he poured them each just another splash, without her instruction. "I feel like I've barely seen other people, aside from work."

She could pretend that didn't comment didn't please her to hear, but what would be the point in that. It showed, in the twitch of lips as she meet the shockingly pale eyes. It would have been wise to turn down the refill he was offering, and maybe she would have, but by the time she'd come to a decision there was already more there. Well then. "I've been feeling pretty trapped and pent up myself lately. It's been a long couple of months." Not that she'd go into details. Peyton was doing a damn good job forgetting everything that had gone to hell lately, and she wasn't about to ruin it now. "Had to get away, even if away was only as far as the kitchen." It was a change, it counted. She shrugged, bringing the glass up and draining the contents in one before setting it on the ledge with a definitive click of glass against concrete. "Didn't think I'd run into anyone, let alone someone interesting."

"So long as you feel better now, then." He spread his hands, and offered her another bright flash of a smile: brief and serious, not quite settling fingers against her arm. Lukas's expression melted away again, after a moment, into something more thoughtful. "You want me to walk you back toward your room...?"

He had something of a dazzling smile, and one again she found herself smiling right back at him before the brush against her arm made her blink, pulling her attention down. When she looked up again the smile was gone, replaced by something more unreadable, and she considered his question a moment, stalling with a lick over her lips. "Sure," she answered, the shadow of a smile returning as she straightened up and set her glass down. They probably should have taken them back to the kitchen, but... She'd had a little too much whiskey to care.

She'd have to lead the way -- Lukas just a half step behind her, assessing the view, a thoughtful little frown across his lips. As they eased into the building and then up to the second floor, though, his eyebrows went up and he stepped in next to her again. "How long did you say you've been here?"

It wasn't a bad view. Peyton might have been short, but America was always waxing on about the blonde having a great a**. "Two years in May." She'd grin, proud. Figuring the question had something to do with them walking down the second floor hall. Ambitious, tenacious, the Sun had ranked up rather quickly. Half way down the hall she'd slow to a stop in front of one room 250, hand lifting to rest on the doorknob as she looked up at him, features thoughtful for a moment. "Do you want to come in?" It could have been she was offering to show him the sort of room he could look forward to a hunter, or it could have been exactly what it seemed. A faint pink flush rising up beneath sprinkling of freckles along her cheeks.

"Beats going back to my own room, for sure." It sounded casual, but it came with another slow spread of that smile, both of his eyebrows raised as he leaned against the wall.

Lips ticked up in the corners, and she opened the door the usher him. "I'll bet, specially if you're in the basement." There were ideas bouncing around in the girls head revolving around the possible renovation of the basement rooms, but it would a monumental project, and Peyton didn't even know where to even start with planning. When he passed she'd close the door behind them, leaning on it until it clicked and then headed straight for the kitchenette to get herself a glass of water. "Would you like some water? Or a soda?" Probably they should avoid consuming anymore alcohol. The suite looked like a small, studio styled apartment. There was the kitchenette against the wall nearest the door. A stylish shelf separated it from the rest of the room, which was combination bedroom and living space. A doorway in the far wall lead into a bathroom with a shower/tub combination. Everything was neat and tidy, though not sterile and impersonal.
