She agreed! He wasn't sure she would, even though she had been positive up until this moment about everything they had found here, but that pause made him worry. But his worries were lifted when she agreed to stay. She did have a point, even if this wasn't such a nice spot, they would need to settle down and prepare for winter before too long. The fact that this place had clean water, lots of food and a cave for shelter were truly a blessing. Kivuli gave his mate a long affectionate nuzzle. "We'll make this place great." He told her confidently.
Of course, Maua may change her upbeat tune about this place once she realized how much work out be involved in getting everything ready for them to make it through the winter here. They were in a mountainous region after all, and that could affect the weather greatly. But if they put their all into it, they would get everything done with plenty of time to spare. Speaking of which. "So, what shall we do first?" He had a number of things in his mind that needed to get done, and a few others that would be nice but not a necessity, but he figured he would let Maua choose what they started with.

Maua was pleased to see that her response made Kivuli happy, all to often on this trip she had felt like she was making things difficult on him..but she had only wanted the very best for them. If they had to make an entirely new future she wanted it to be the best one it could be and she was sure that he understood that despite his disappointment as she had turned down one place after another until now.
Nuzzling him back Maua gave the stallion a warm look before turning her attention to the problems at hand, the place was a good start but much work needed to be done. "Well.." she started and then hesitated..what would be the best place to start, back home they had other to do all of this boring work for them, she had never had to think to much about what was important or not important for them to have in such a condition. "...I ..I suppose we ought to make sure the baskets get made so that we can start drying berries before they go out of season..?" She questioned, glancing at her mate to see if he agreed.

Maua didn't take long to consider her suggestion for starting with the baskets. "An excellent idea. We don't know how much longer the berries will be around, nor do we know what the winters will be like here, so food should be our top priority." It wouldn't do them any good to make their cave home comfortable and then end up starving because they hadn't collected enough food. "Collecting herbs should be among one of our top priorities as well." He added. Herbs were both food and a source of healing, and something they shouldn't skip on collecting.
With their decision made, Kivuli didn't want to waste any time. Moving down to where the reeds grew, he waded into the water and began using his claws to pull them free. Once he had a claw full he laid them out on the shore. "They will need to dry a bit before we can weave them. Perhaps you could lay them out in the sun while I pick more. We will need plenty to make baskets and that blanket." Honestly he wasn't sure exactly how many reeds they would need. He had seen the crafters of their herd make items with reeds, but had never learned the skill nor what it took to make them. But he was certain he knew enough to make a half way decent basket.

Maua watched as Kivuli waded into the water "Yes..I didn't think of herbs." She told him as he started pulling out the reeds and suddenly she was struck with a fearful thought - in the herd sickness had not been something they worried about, there were always healers to take care of such things for them. Soquili whom had spent years learning which herbs cured what and how to deal with illness...now that they were alone, what would happen if one of them fell ill, sure she knew the very basics of healing, like everyone did but if it came to something serious she would be clueless. Suddenly fearful she called out to Kivuli.
"Do...do you know anything about healing?" Trying to shake the fear from her mind she started to spread out the reeds like he had asked, pulling them apart and laying them out in the sunshine where they would be sure to dry quickly.

Baskets, berries and herbs were just the beginning of a long list they would need to gather, trade for or make to get through this first winter. Subsequent winters would be so much easier as they would know how much to put away and already have certain things made well in advance. It would be a lot of work, and Kivuli could only hope they would have enough time and resources to get it all done. And the ability too...they were high borne and this was the most work they had done in their lives. But Kivuli wouldn't let that stop him from providing the best life possible for Maua and himself.
Maua's question made him pause. "Some. I had watched the healers on a number of occasions treat injuries and sickness. I know the herbs used in the more common ailments." He could see her worry as clear as the markings on her hide. "Do not worry, we will be alright." His comment was confident, because he was in fact confident that they would be fine. Still, he made a note to try to seek out others that may live in the region and find out if a healer was among them...just in case. He just wouldn't tell Maua that or she would obsess over finding. They needed to concentrate on these current tasks and then the others if time allowed. He resumed pulling reeds from the water and setting them on the bank for Maua to move into the sun. "How big will we make these baskets?" He asked, trying to judge how much more reeds he should pull.
