"I definitely will be much warmer tonight thanks to you, thank you." it was a very nice thing! The coat was large on him so he could mostly curl up in it even so that was a plus. It was very obviously not his coat by the size alone.
He frowned slightly, toying with the extra scarf before he was talking, words soft. "It was some distance from here...I was in the middle of eating some food when a man surprised me..he was drunk...and was trying to pick a fight..."
Ish set the scarf down and stared at the fire a moment. "He wouldn't leave me alone and finally...I couldn't take it anymore and I lost control...the last thing I remember was me telling him to run.....I woke up here."
His voice was still soft, and he closed his eyes. "I can remember...him hitting me on the back as I tried to leave...and that's when he came out...my Shadow....I remember my fingers curling around his neck...my nails piercing his skin and making him bleed...and he fought me as I choked him...and just before he choked I broke his neck....and I took his coat because I was cold and it was warm."
By now his voice had dropped to a mere whisper, and he waited for Riley to be upset. To yell at him. Would he simply call him terrible and leave...or would Iah have to beg Riley to run....all while trying to run away himself?
I don't want to hurt you Riley....I don't.... the thought was a fervent one. He didn't want to harm the boy at all!

Riley felt his pulse quickening, and his hands clenched tight to his knees. Why was everyone picking fights? Why did they always have to fight? To instigate? Be so mean? Poor Iah.
His heart began to thud as the tale of the shadow cresselia emerged. Iah's other side had killed the man? He was silent for minute, chewing his lip more as his gaze twitched between his fisted hands and the teenager. Iah didn't seem happy about what had happened, just.. sad. A little scared.
Slowly, he uncurled from himself and wrapped his arms around Iah. "I'm sorry that happened," he whispered, a couple tears in his eyes.

With his eyes closed tightly, he was relying on his other senses. So he heard Riley moving...and he was assuming it was going to be away...or to strike him possibly. He tended to bring out anger in others.
It was the arms around him that had his eyes fly open yet again in shock, eyes wide before they closed again as they filled with tears and his arms they came up...and he hugged the other back securely.
This was the first time anyone had ever hugged him! He could feel the others body beneath his hands, could smell the others hair against his nose as he inhaled deeply. In the back of his mind there was a whisper. Do it...wrap your arms tight...squeeze the air from him... NO! I won't! I don't want to hurt him! I won't hurt him!
He argued silently with himself, shuddering slightly as his arms tightened barely, just hugging Riley. "Thank you Riley...no one's...no one's ever hugged me before...." his voice broke slightly as he won the battle with himself. No, he wouldn't hurt Riley. He'd make sure of it.

Riley squeezed his eyes shut when those arms hugged around him. He could feel how much this was needed... He was just glad Iah was accepting it, rather than shoving him away as most strangers would react to being hugged.
His ears pinned back at Iah's words. So much pain... "Well, now you know what hugs are like, and I can give you as many as it takes. I have lots of 'em." It was scary, knowing Iah had killed someone, but... but what would have happened if the cresselia hadn't fought back? Iah could have been seriously hurt for no reason. That thought was scarier. Iah was so nice and sweet and warm. Why would that guy want to hurt him?

Iah raised one hand and brought it up to rest lightly on the back of Riley's head just holding him closer, basking in the warmth of the unexpected embrace. It was comforting.
"Thank you for being so kind and so giving." he held on a few moments longer before he was finally letting go and sitting up, eyes shining some as he looked at Riley.
"You know...I never asked what brought you out here so early." a subject change? Yes. He thought it'd be easier on the both of them really.

It pained his heart, but Riley knew, he knew, that Iah was good at his core. This was proof! The child eventually felt the chill of the story leave his belly, replaced by the warmth of knowing he was actually helping someone. When their eyes met again, he smiled with warmth and relief. Iah was looking better already.
He brushed the damp from his own eyes as the subject changed, his ears perking with the memory. Oh, right, he'd come out here for something. "I was just getting firewood for the house. We chop it right from the trees out here. Any logs at the house are for emergencies. My parents use it as training, to fetch fresh firewood regularly." He turned his eyes away bashfully. "Though, I'm not really strong, so they don't usually send me. I'm just.. taking a break from there." He looked back to Iah and smiled. "I'm glad I came out today though! I'm really glad I got to meet you!"

"Training?" he was quietly curious as he shifted around a little so he wasn't sitting quite so hunched up and all and tilted his head.
"Would you like some help gathering the logs? I don't mind helping you out, the least I can do for everything you did for me." though he did reach for an apple that had tumbled out and picked it up and ran his fingers over it before taking a bite of it. He figured eating something before gathering the wood would be helpful to himself.
"I'm glad you came out here today too. I've never been so happy to meet someone you know."

His cheeks heated up, and he kept his eyes away. "My family... well, we're a bunch of riolu. They train to fight all the time. Get stronger, faster, that sort of thing." It was miserable stuff...
The offer of help made his mood lift right back up. "Would you? I'd really appreciate the help!" He stood up and bounced on his toes excitedly. "It's not much further ahead. Everything was already chopped this week by my brother, so we just have to bundle and collect it."

"You sound like you don't like it." he gave a wry smile as he said that and eased to his feet as the other got up and bounced a soft laugh given. "Yes I'll be happy to help you gather up wood. I'll even help you take it part of the way if you want?" well why not make the offer, it didn't bother him in the slightest to give the help.

Riley gave Iah a weary smile, his hands lifting to tug at his braid. "No... I don't like it very much. I don't like fighting, at all, and they take it so seriously, and get really rough... I actually joined a dojo recently with a friend that teaches fighting without being violent, so I don't need my family's training as much. It's nice, so far. They still get me to practice with them sometimes, though."
Tail twitching about happily, he turned and led the way to the fire chopping area, his smile lifting more with delight. "Oh, you don't have to do that much! ..but, if you wanted to, I won't turn the help down."

"Oh I'm glad you've found another way to train that's more to your liking. It sounds like it might be a bit annoying your family insists you do other wise." he didn't have experience with family, so he wasn't sure if he was saying the right things at all.
"I do want to help. I won't take it all the way, I don't want your family to get mad it was me that brought it back, but I'll carry it close enough you'll have less of a trip to make alright?"

Riley nodded happily. He was glad, too! It was nice to not get beat up all the time now. "I know they're only trying to get me to learn the way they learned, the only way they know, but that's not what I wanted." Wow. Saying it that way made him sound almost tough! Independent! Able. ....Yeah. keep dreaming, Riley...
He looked up at the tall teen with a bright expression filled with appreciation. "Thank you, Iah."

"Well, I'm glad that you found a way you like and that works for you." he smiled down at the boy with a grin and reached out to rest a gloved hand on his hair. "It's my pleasure Riley." and it really was!
