"I like your name," said Chance mildly, and made a bit of a face. "Mine I've mostly been okay with, but sometimes I just get the strange desire to change it, since it's a noun that was never actually supposed to be used as a proper noun. It's like plucking a random word out of a book and using it as your liking for a child."

His brows rose, but he gave a shrug. "Sure, if you want to." Asher was already enthusiastically shifting inside of his mind, so there was no real harm in attempting a charge. Chance pulled the bowstring back, a little frown of concentration on his face.

When he let go of the arrow, it flew towards Claude, splintered off into several icy blue arrows instead of a singular one, and pelted the area around her - and probably Claude herself as well.

"I like your name, too." She replied. "If you're looking for a change though, well...look at the bright side. At least your name isn't Blue Ivy. If you changed it...got any ideas?" Claude gave a firm nod of her head. "It couldn't hurt. The worst thing we'll do is miss."

Which wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.

As Chance prepared, so did she. She braced her pistol with her other hand, and as Chance released his charge, she did as well. A volley of bullets burst from her pistol, and after that she took the hit from Chance's attack. Getting pelted by a rain of arrows was something else, and the chill that came after was thoroughly unpleasant.

"Damn." Claude whistled, impressed, and shuddered, trying to shake off the feeling of getting pelted accompanied by the cold. She also was incredibly pleased either of them hadn't missed.

"If my name was Blue Ivy, I'd change it in a heartbeat," said Chance with a roll of his eyes and a snort. "My gosh. I don't mind Chance as much as I used to, but when I was a kid I used to get made fun of by the other boys at the home."

He gave a noncommittal shrug. "Not that I cared too much, but it did get annoying after a whi - "

The rest of his sentence was abruptly cut off, because Claude's bullets slammed into him with more force than he'd thought she was capable of. Chance staggered backwards, slipping on the grass and collapsing onto the field with a thump, his head spilling.

"Damn," said Chance, dragging himself vertical again and brushing grass from his legs. "That was pretty damn impressive, Captain."

He strung one more arrow and fired it off, but his aim was weak, his hand shaking a little.

She couldn't imagine him as anything else than Chance now. It fit him. "You earned your nickname, Master Gunner." She replied, amused and with a hint of awe. She shuddered once more before rolling her shoulders and sweeping her hair back again. His next arrow struck her, and she knew her shield was reaching its limit. She hoped his was too. She never wanted to actually win a spar this much before.

Claude's hand came back up to steady her pistol once more as she fired a shot back at him.

He was getting winded now, Chance swaying slightly where he stood. "Yes, thank you, thank you," he said, giving Claude a mock salute and a tired grin. Both of their FEAR shields had begun to weaken already; they were close to breaking, but considering they both wanted to win this spar, it had gone remarkably different than their usual ones.

Claude's bullets slammed into his arm; he twisted sideways and readjusted his footing, restringing another arrow with fumbling gestures.

Her hands were shaking. It was a feeling, the rush that she was so close, and the pressure of one more and she'd clinch it. She hadn't felt this competitive rush since she had played volleyball in high school, and that had been her pride. This was an adrenaline rush, despite how worn out she was feeling. She hadn't exerted herself this much in a spar before, nor wanted to. She was also beyond conversing right now.

This needed her utmost concentration as she focused on steadying her hands.

The adrenaline was rushing through him now; he wondered if he still had the stamina to continue without doing too much damage to Claude; but weariness was beginning to settle into his bones (pun not intended), and he wasn't feeling quite as casual as he had before.

He was, however, feeling significantly more amused by their little agreement, and he could tell just by the look in Claude's eyes that she was unwilling to back down.

Well, so was he.

With a final burst of energy, Chance snapped back the bowstring and let an arrow fly towards her, his fingers feeling bruised from the effort. He dropped down to his knees, breathing heavily, and looked over at her beneath a fringe of black curls.

"Well. That was something."

She missed her shot. Not literally this time, but figuratively. She'd been so focused on steadying her hands, and in that time, Chance had taken the shot. Her shield shattered.

Chance fell to his knees, and a rush of disappointment swept over her. Claude's pistol returned to her totem form, lest she throw it across the field as a means to vent this rush. Claude swept around with her back to him, and her hands came up to rip the bandana off her head. "<********>." Claude hissed, exasperated. She threw it to the ground, and then reached up and ran her hands vigorously through her mussed hair, clenching the auburn strands tightly in her grasp.

She stood like that for quite some time, with her back turned and hands burred in her hair, before her hands finally lowered. She then turned to face Chance, sporting a case of bed head and her expression back to its usual: impassive. "I really wanted to win." She deadpanned.

Claude leaned and picked up her bandana, and stuffed it into the inside pocket of her coat. She then crossed the distance between them, and held out a hand to Chance to help him up.

Asher was desummoned, the bow disappearing in a gust of icy wind and blue light that eventually reappeared as the tiny silver pin on Chance's shirt. He pressed his hands against his knees and took a moment to breathe, trying to figure out what he was feeling at the moment.

Which was a whole lot of nothing and a tiny bit of satisfaction that he'd won. Maybe he was just built wrong after all. Emotions had never really been something that he was good at deciphering, let alone actually feeling. Was he supposed to be feeling something right now?

He had no idea. A breath escaped him in a low hiss, and his eyes flickered upwards to the offered hand. After a moment, Chance reached up and grasped it, letting her haul him to his feet.

"Well, you kicked some serious a**, that's for certain," he said, with a slight smile. "My a** was definitely shown up during parts of that spar."

Claude grasped his hand firmly and pulled him up with relative ease, despite the drain she was feeling. "Oh, just gloat already." She teased. "You're too kind. You got me. Again." She raised two fingers in a small mock salute.

"A favor to call on when you want to use it." She lowered her hand and reached into a pocket to pull out her phone. "And we're running late. Let's go." She briefly tapped his elbow and started to make her way to the portal that'd take them to the underwater pod.

"That's right, that's right," said Chance with a smile that was as easygoing as his nature. "I'm supposed to gloat and s**t, but you know me, I don't do that sort of thing. I will, however, save that favor for later."

He fell into step alongside her, jogging a little to keep up.

"You promised me sharks, remember?"

"I know you don't." Claude replied and nodded once more to reaffirm the bet. A favor for later. "I did, and I don't make promises I can't keep." Which meant there definitely we're going to be sharks there. With their long legs it was a quick trip to the portal, and only a little bit of a stink eye (which was ignored) from the other hunters for them being late.

Upon stepping through the portal, Claude kept moving, veering off towards the couch in the room. She did stop in the middle of the pod and gestured to the large window with the plethora of sea life. "Ta da." She said flatly.

Chance definitely ignored the stink-eye, or maybe he just didn't see it - and if he did, he didn't particularly care, because he was going to see sharks in this underwater pod thing, and that was pretty damn awesome.

"Holy s**t," was the response as he stepped in, an appreciative grin spreading across Chance's face. "Look at this, this is pretty damn awesome."

He turned to look at Claude, eyebrows raised. "This is definitely more interesting than pod duty."

Claude had to chuckle at that appreciative answer. "Yeah." Was all she said, and then agreed. "It is." She then moved up to the large glass window, and stood in front of it much like she had duty down here with Ever. She was silent for a moment, staring off into the distance before she raised a finger and pointed.

"See the large shadows looming far in the distance?"

He stepped up beside Claude and tried to see where she was pointing, Chance narrowing his eyes a little.

"Those blobby dark things over there?" he asked, jabbing a finger to the right. "Yeah, are those the titan things or whatever that you were talking about before?"
