My dad managed to piss me off today when I was telling him about it. He said: V may be for Vendetta, but it's not for Vassar (I got rejected from Vassar, I didn't really care).

Now that's just mean. So the kind of thing my mom would say. Not about college, but if she wanted to make it a point that she's pissed.

That's what I figured, when I looked it up and saw "soup" as the definition, I figured it just meant a concotion or a combination of things.

Indeed. "This soup of words"?! I mean, honestly!

Though...I have to admit I kind of did feel attracted to V. Even though I have issues with his name (there was this girl with the same name who...took something very important from me a couple years back that I still am bothered by) and thought that he was a little too...I dunno, (suave maybe?) for my tastes.

But it was more the spirit of the movie that made me like it. I'm not really drooling after V or whatever.

Y'know what I find strange is the V for Vendetta got a really bad review from Entertainment Weekly. ..Don't ask, I got a subscription for my birthday from a person who knows nothing about what I like. I plan to make a collage from images in them, though.

Anyway, they had an article in one about it, saying how the movie was just a cover-up for the director and whatnot to sneak in a whole bunch of referances to the political ******** of Bush and these couple of years with the war. I know the movie is a whole anarchy against politics or whatnot movie, but this struck me dumb.

Like one character was like Bush, another like d**k Cheney and this and that and the other and I just threw the magazine across the room. Really, is it that soaked in anti-war blood or does the writer of the article have his thumb in his a**?

Teh guy not only has his thumb up his a**, but his whole head. Doesn't he realize it was based on a comic from the 50s or something? It's not really about war, though it does imply that the "former USA" is in civil war and turmoil. The movie speaks to me more about censorship (of the media and of people's lifestyles) and the freedoms of citizens than anything else.

I just saw it today. *swoon*

I'll agree. It had nothing to do with the political riots of today. I even read the article again to see if I could relate then, but I saw no connection. The only modern thing I saw them bring up was the Avian Flu, but that was from the News where they were scaring the people back into submission.

I wanted to see V's face SO BAD. Those hands made me squeal and I was clawing at my seat to know what his face looked like. I almost cried, but I loved the ending. They timed everything perfect with the music at that part (no spoilers) and it made me smile.

V was humorous and quite witty like Erik. Evey reminded me of Christine, only with a stronger will. Very good film. I almost bought the comics yesterday, but the art was so fugly. DX I'm a stickler for good art in comics. That and I hate American comic styles anyway. They're all ugly to me.

The avian flu part was hilarious xd it totally reminded me of all the crazy histeria people have over catching it like "HOMIGOSHAVIANFLU"*runsawayscreaming*

I agree that it has no specific connection to recent events, honestly you could probably connect it more with America's red scare than the Bush admnistrations handlings of the Iraq war, but the comic's overtones definantly seem to be an overall critique of totalitarian govt's and the tactics they use to excuse they're ripping away of rights *cough* Patriot act *cough*

But I agree with Uta, I wanted to see his face so badly! They only really gave you a sneak peak in the hot flame of doom scene...but you know I guess we were supposed to respect him as a symbol and what he stood for or...whatever.... stare

******** symbols! I wanted to see his face!

I had to say that.

Really, whoever said it was pointing fingers at Bush and all the s**t going on really needs to get out more and stop watching CNN 24/7. I mean it was in England for heaven sakes. It was poking at the celebration of Guy Fawkes' day and what that man tried to do. Not whatever Bush did last week or how he danced around in his bathroom in a towel, singing Celine Dion. rolleyes

rofl Not to mention he had a nice voice, no I was lying he had a sexy voice 3nodding You're not alone.

Oh and Utakan, is the graphic novel really that bad looking? Can you compare it to any other comic? I was hoping to get the graphic novel, but if the art isn't that nice than forget it.

I think it was the lineart that got me. I'm not very fond of the very masculine-overdriven style of American comics.

Really it's all on who looks at it. That page doesn't look so bad, but the book they had, if I remember correctly, was in color. And it looked ugly that way.

Haha, I agree, Utakan. ******** symbols. I was kinda peeved at the end when you never saw his face.

Yay! Teratophiliacs of the world unite.

But anyway...I thought V was more like the spring fling type (Gahh! I hate that expression!). I'm stickin' with good ol' Winslow. *Clings*

Now I understand what you mean... It looks like those comics out of those newspapers and being colored would kinda make it look messy. Oh well. Thanks by the way 3nodding

Actually, some of the scenes (especially the ones that take place in the clubs) are really aided by color. Creates a mood and all that. Although the art did make it somewhat difficult to remember sub-characters (or maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention). I'm not usually a huge fan of american animation, but this one had some really nice moments (but just for the record, David Lloyd, the artist, draws really ugly/disturbing women). I haven't gone to see the moie yet, as
a) I wanted to finish the graphic novel first. My biggest pet peeve is seeing a movie, but not reading the source material. It's lazyness
b) It's not at the 'cheap seats' yet. And I'm tight with my money

I did notice the women were ugly. And I agree some scenes are aided with color, but I still have a thing against that dot-ink coloring style.

I'm actually that way too. It kills me to see something without seeing the original/reading the book/comic/whatever. S'why I wanted V for Vendetta ahead of time, but I wasn't very interested in standing the art for the most part, so I got the synopsis and just said hell with it. Same with Memoirs of a Geisha and the upcoming Da Vinci Code movie.
