Not saying nothing, Claude, not saying nothing.

"You have got," said Chance, with a roll of his eyes, "to think of a better nickname than cabana boy. I called you Captain, didn't I? I should be at least like Lieutenant or something."

He finished painting his nails and screwed the cap back on, letting out a small hum of thought. "I have a habit of just doing what I want to, most of the time," Chance said truthfully. "I don't believe in not doing something just because you're scared, or because you're worried or some other nonsense. You should just do it because you want to. That should be a good enough reason."

He shrugged, casting a small smile at Claude.

"I'd say you're doing a pretty good job of that already."

"Chance." Not letting this drop.

She smirked though, and heaved a sigh, as if this was taxing on her (it wasn't). "Fine. Can't have mutiny now." She drummed her fingers on the sheet for a moment. "Master Gunner." She uttered. "In charge of keeping the weapons up to snuff and ensuring the safety of the crew..." Claude trailed off for a moment. "Plus it's ironic." With their track record and all. She listened to him and mused idly, "Most of the time..."

Though it didn't show on her face, Claude appreciated hearing that from Chance. She wasn't about to go and spill her guts about the revelation she had from the conversation with her brother. That had been hard enough to talk about with her own brother, it wasn't going to come up now. "Thanks." She uttered, and though her tone wasn't filled with emotion, it expressed her gratitude none the less.

"Back to you, though..." She paused a moment. "What took you so long to grab the bull by the horns?" Yeah, she got that he jumped at the...chance...damn it, there had to be another word, to join Deus because it was interesting...but was he going to keep waiting in Detroit until it...or something, happened? She supposed she was interested in what made him tick, because people could be go with the flow and chill all they wanted...but usually there was something to drive and yearn for too.

He just made a noncommittal sound that was something like a whistle and smiled benignly at Claude that indicated he had no intention of clarifying anything and she would just have to wait and see, now wouldn't she?

In other words: Chance was still a terrible person, sorry Claude.

"Master Gunner sounds better," he said with a nod of approval. A smirk twisted his lips upwards as he added innocently, "And if we go fishing, then I could be a Master Baiter, right?"

That was the good thing about being around people like Claude (and apparently Finn and Ripley as well): he could make obnoxious and inappropriate jokes without batting an eye and none of them would get offended. It was very nice to know that Claude now fell into that category as well.

Friends. It was still such a foreign term.

Chance was shaking his hands to try and dry his nails faster. "You're welcome. As for what took me so long, well..."

He trailed of, a thoughtful frown on his face as he contemplated this. "I guess I just figured life would come to me, and never really gave going to life instead much thought. I just sorta went through life, and the only thing I actually cared about was space."

He gestured upwards at the plastic stars on his ceiling. "That being said, I dunno, I just never really went anywhere with it, probably because I just figured one day it would be my turn."

Chance rolled his neck sideways to smile at Claude. "But as we've all learned, sometimes you have to go out and take life for yourself, instead of waiting for it."

Claude narrowed her eyes at him again, and stared at him silently. She pointed two fingers at her eyes, and then one at Chance. Watching you. Always on her radar.

She then had to snort, expressing her amusement louder than she ever had previously, and her shoulders shook lightly. "Yes...yes you will be...the Master Baiter." She looked away briefly, something of a smile on her face. That was a good one. It was definitely a good one because she was still amused. Claude then looked back at him as he answered, and she nodded her head. That made sense.

"Yeah." She murmured. "If you didn't go for it...who knows how long you'd be in that bookstore for, right?"

Chance just went on smiling, but he tilted sideways slightly so that his shoulder was pressed lightly against Claude's, Chance slumping down lazily to lean partly on her. He looked entirely comfortable, holding out one hand in front of him to examine his nails.

"I didn't want to stay at that bookstore my whole life," he said idly. "But I was prepared to do that. I thought I would do that. And yet..."

He waved his hand. "Here I am. Here we both are."

Claude's head turned slightly to look at him as he leaned his shoulder against hers. She held her position for a moment before she leaned a bit against his shoulder as well, but kept her weight propped up with her hand on the bed. Something about this, and the times he'd lean on her, made her feel good. She supposed it was because it was a sign of affection. Something friends do.

She quietly listened to him, her eyes drifted to his hand as well as he held it out. Here they both were indeed, and Claude was silent for a long while after he spoke. She then uttered softly uttered:

"I'm glad."

He felt quite at ease with Claude, which was nice, because he didn't have to try so hard to talk to her. Not that he would have anyway, but there was just something about her that made it simpler, much more comfortable to just be there. He supposed it could have been because of the casual manner in which they spoke, but Chance also suspected that it might have been because they were rather similar in some regards.

He stretched his legs out like a lazy cat and yawned.

"Lemme take a nap on you," Chance mumbled sleepily. "And me too."

"Fine." Claude sighed, as if this was bothersome. It wasn't. Had to take care of your crew. "Out of the kindness of my heart, and that it's the holidays." There was no desire to leave yet, anyways. She settled against the wall, sinking a bit to get more comfortable for a spell, took to a companionable silence, and just reflected, content.
