((OOC Note: This occurs right after her awakening))

Chailee practically skipped home from the park. Her mind was full of fantastical visions of monsters and evil people making running a muck throughout the the city and then her, all powered up as Harmonia, rushing in and saving the day. The fantasies caused a giggle to escape her as she passed through the entrance way of the park and turned right to head back in the direction of her home. As she walked in her half skipping but mostly bouncing step she felt a small twinge of pain from the ankle she had injured a few days prior. It turned out her escape across the snow had just resulted in a bruised bone. The minor injury had mostly healed at this point but a few more days would be required until she no longer felt anything from it.

As her mind shifted to that night of the youma attack Chailee’s mind shifted to her rescuer. Now that she really knew what Chaonis was it made that night make all that much more sense. I wonder if I’ll run into him again now? She grinned. Won’t he be surprised to find out that I now a fighter against youma and Negas too! She mused some more about being a hero and being as calm and cool as Chaonis was when he saved her. Of course that all led to a blush to blossom across her cheeks and she sucked in a big breath of air to help break that thought pattern.

As she walked pass houses she smiled at a few people she passed all the while wondering if any of them were aware of the war waging around them. Were any of them part of it? What side did they fight for? It really was an odd thing to think about. Anyone could a senshi, knight or Nega. She could literally be walking among friends or enemies and never know it right. Were any of her friends keeping this secret from her? If so how long? Shifting her bag on her shoulder Chay sighed. Guess I’ll never know. The idea of magic from planets in space, talking cats, fighters against evil makes me feel like I stepped into a magical world that I’ve only been able to read about.

Lost in her thoughts she almost walked past her house. Turning up the small pathway that led to the door she noted that her fathers care was in the driveway. I was gone longer than I thought I was.

Stepping into the house Chailee stripped herself of her coat and boots. She slung her bag back over her shoulders and walked into the kitchen where she could smell food and hear her parents talking. Her Mom was busy at the stove cooking up something that smelled very much like oregano, tomatoes, garlic and basil. Seeing a large pot boiling away next to the one that her mother was tending to confirmed her suspicions for dinner. Her stomach growled in appreciation.

“Hey, Bright Star.” Chailee’s Dad glanced over at his daughter from the kitchen table and smiled at his daughter.

Chay returned the smile with one of her own. “Hey! Is dinner almost done?”

“It’ll be finished soon.” Her mother responded as she turned from the smaller pot to the larger one to give the pasta a stir. “Why don’t you go put your things away. I’ll call you down when everything’s ready.”

“Alright!” Chailee turned from the kitchen and hurried up the stairs. Her stocking feet barely pattering up the wooden staircase.

Walking into her room Chay flipped her overhead light on and closed the door before hurrying to her bed. She flopped her bag down at the end of her unmade bed, in a spot that looked untouched, before quickly grabbing her blankets and smoothing them out to make it look somewhat put together before hopping onto it herself. Grabbing her bag by it’s strap she pulled it towards her before reaching in to pull out her flute and book. She inspected the edges of the book that Faust had exercised his jaw on and sighed at the obviously chewed and torn corner. “For such a smart talking cat he sure acts like a lot of normal cats I’ve met before.”

Putting the book down on her covers she reached back into the bag and unzipped a small pocket on the side and pulled out her now most prized possession. Shifting herself in the bed so she was laying down on it she balanced her head on a forearm as her other hand held the pen in front of her. The blue and gold henshin pen was propped carefully in her finger.. Such a simple thing was such an important item in her life now. She rolled onto her back and held the pen in both of her hands over her head as she smiled up at it. This is my future. That she was sure of.

“Chailee!” Her Dad’s voice was muffled from the closed door as he shouted from the stairway.. “Dinner is ready!”

“I’ll be right down!” She hollered back.

Sitting up in the bed she scooted to the edge and stood up. Adjusting her shirt that had become askew from laying down she walked over to her desk and opened the small middle drawer. Carefully she nestled the pen inside vowing to find a better place for it as soon as dinner was done.

She hurried to her open her door, only pausing a moment to attempt to fix her unruly curls to now avail before hurrying downstairs to enjoy dinner with her family.

Keep Going?
Word Count: 1167

“Are you sure you sure you’re alright, Honey?” Chailee’s mom hovered over the girl who was now tucked safely into her own bed after spending two nights at the hospital. Her injuries hadn’t been as bad as they could have been and truthfully she could have left after the first night but the doctors wanted to keep an eye on her for an extra night before discharging her. Of course, as soon as they had heard Chay’s parents were at the hospital and the hoovering began and much to her dismay, it didn’t seem that her Mother was finished with doting upon her like she was a small sick child. Chailee couldn’t bring herself to say anything though. She had put them through so much and felt horrible because of it.

“Yea, I am fine.” Sitting propped up in bed, Chailee looked down at the paper back novel sitting in her lap. Reading was her only real means of entertainment at the moment. She wanted to play her flute but had been warned to be careful with her jaw for a few weeks. The ligaments and muscles needed to recover from the damage done to them when they were dislocated. Not to mention it still pained her to move her mouth much from the rather large tender bruise that glared angrily from the side of her face in vivid blues and purples. The rest of her body just ached from random minor bruises and cuts that were already beginning to heal. Truthfully, when she looked back on it, she had gotten out of that fight relatively well. It could have been worse. Oh so much worse.

Her mom reached down to brush Chailee’s hair from her face before planting a kiss on her forehead. “Alright. Just let us know if you need anything.”

Chailee nodded and watched as her mother left the bedroom leaving the door cracked open. She sighed and put a bookmark in her book before closing it. Absently she looked at the novel as she ran her hands over the cover. The raised writing of the novels name slid under her fingertips as she reflected.

When she had woken up after her first night in the hospital to find her parents there she had no idea what to do or say. Both of them had obviously been crying, her Mother more-so than her Father but it hurt her knowing they were distressed because of her mistakes. Then she hurt them more by sitting there and lying to them about what happened. They didn’t know of course, but she did. Is this what my relationship is going to be like with them now? Full of lies and alibis?

Running a hand over her face she pushed the fantasy story away, further down her bed. She was angry at herself for thinking that being a senshi was anything like the stories she had read in her books. In them the good guy was strong, independent, sure of themselves and always prevailed over evil. I am not any of that. It frustrated her.

Suddenly her mind shifted to that night and the Nega’s hand buried within her chest toying with her starseed.

Chailee shuddered and shoved the memory aside as she drew her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them over top of the blankets. Maybe I should just stop powering up. She mused as she sat there. Unconsciously she moved to rest her chin upon her knees and hissed softly at the pain from the pressure as she pulled back. What an idiot.

Flipping the blankets off of her she slipped out of bed and carefully got to her feet as her sore muscles protested the movement. She moved over to her desk and sat in the cushioned wooden chair. Opening the middle drawer she reached in and pulled out her henshin pen and stared at it. Would I be better off just giving up? It was pretty obvious that I was no more than a punching bag for the Nega. What can I possibly do? Dejectedly she placed the pen on the desk and sat back gently.

But will trying to ignore the war really be the best thing to do? Staring at the item on her desk she rolled it gently with a finger before looking up to peer out of her bay window. I don’t want to hurt them anymore, but I also want to protect them. They don’t know about any of this. They’re in danger. If I can keep them safe then isn’t all of this worth it?

Her eyes drifted to her bed where the novel sat and she shook her head. I really am nothing like the heros in those books. After one failure I am ready to give up. Grabbing a hair tie that laid inside a side drawer she gathered up her unruly hair and tied it back in a high ponytail. Little wisps fell down to frame her face and she brushed them to the side.

Grabbing the pen she put it away before pushing away from her desk and walked back to the bed. Grabbing the book that lay there discarded she slipped back under the covers and propped the book back in her lap. The title ‘Sword of the Rightful King: A Novel of King Arthur’ stood out in it’s golden letters with a picture of an old sword stuck in a stone behind them. Her father had gone and picked it out for her yesterday at the bookstore. He said he had noticed the library book she had borrowed recently and thought she would enjoy it. She had almost finished the book in between her frequent naps. Looking at it now though reminded her of something else from that night.

I should go see Tony. I need to thank him. If it hadn’t been for Camelot Chailee may have been just another number added to that Nega’s list of dead enemies. Maybe just talking to him will help ease her troubled thoughts? She didn’t think she was fully ready to give up powering up but she feared what the consequences could be for her and her parents. After all, how many stories could she make up? How long could she continue to sneak out at night? Not that sneaking out was going to happen for a little while now until she healed up.
Blinking she realized she had been staring at a spot on her blanket just above the book. Putting the book on her nightstand Chailee nestled further down into her covers. Her tired body and mind drifted as she closed her eyes. I think I want to keep being a senshi. I...I want to protect people...I...just need to learn...how… Her thoughts slowly faded out as the young girl drifted off into a dreamless slumber.

Distressing Memories
Solo
(Backdated to June, 2016)

Sleep was a sweet mistress, and one that Chailee very rarely got to indulge in. So, when a decision had been made to stay home the evening and not patrol, the young girl took all means to make sure that she would enjoy this rare pleasure. An evening of pampering herself led to several hours curled up in her bed reading before slumber called. Slipping her bookmarker into the well-worn library book, and a flick of a switch on her bedside lamp, the girl was ready to fall into what she expected to be a deep dreamless sleep.

Cold. It was terribly cold. Her blonde hair hung limply around her face as rain fell from the heavens above.

Flash.

Thunder booms.

There was a great stress and sadness. This world had been at war for so long, and with this gathering, it was like a great failure on her own part. She couldn’t stop this. Nothing she did or say could sway Eir. The man, kneeling in front of them all, was battered and beaten, a ‘traitor’ with the word crudely carved into the skin of his forehead in a language she could not read.

Another Flash

She stood next to the woman, Eir. The King. The armour she doned glinted with each flash of lightning over head. The battle hammer, one of ornate detail and certainly not something she had ever seen the King use in battle was gripped in Eir’s hand. She wanted to plead one more time for the man’s life. To try and come up with a more diplomatic way to deal with this, but knew it would fall on deaf ears. What was happening here was beyond anything she could stop.

The weapon was raised high, as if hailing to the Gods above, before it fell.

Flash.

Crimson awashed the rocks at her feet.

BOOM!

Chailee startled awake, body heaving as she sucked in air and sat up. A soft sheen of sweat covered her as she buried her face in her hands.

A New Charm
Holiday prompt response
WC: 501

It was cold outside. As was to be expected of the winter and holiday season in Destiny City. Everyone was bundled up tight with scarves, mittens, coats and whatever else they felt necessary to keep themselves warm from Jack Frost’s n**. Chailee wasn’t any different. She’d pulled her blue pea coat over her festive green sweater, white mittens, tall fashion boots that worked well in the cold with socks layered up, and her pair of insulated leggings. She had even opted to pull on a white, knit hat with a pompom on top over her ears. This of course resulted in her hair being devastated underneath and meant she was dedicated to the accessory for the entire day. With the cold, it didn’t matter to her. She much preferred to be warm.

She had just walked out of a shop carrying a small shopping bag with ‘happy holidays’ emblazoned in white on the red paper bag. Inside was her gift for her mother and father. Actually, it was the last gift she needed to get for the season and considering that the holiday was mere days away, well, it was a good thing she had found what she wanted.

As she exited the store though, she noted it had begun to snow once again. The grey clouds above threatened more snow than they had gotten so far, so Chailee was ready to head home. It was on her trek, finally out of the busiest part of the city, that she began to notice something, well, odd about the snowflakes that were falling or laying on the ground.

Crouching down beside the curb, she scooped up a handful of snow in her mit. There, sitting amongst the normal flakes, was a snowflake that was much larger and had more solid form to it. Using her teeth to remove her other mitten, she reached down to touch the flake. She expected it to melt at her touch but instead it stayed solid. With great care she lifted the quarter size snowflake, dumping the normal snow back onto the ground, and eyed it closely. “It sort of looks like crystal.”

Immediately she wondered if perhaps she should be worried, but there were so many of them and they seemed so delicate that she could hardly expect anything evil to come of them.

Standing up she placed the snowflake in her mittened hand while she struggled to put her other mitten on without breaking her little find. Once both hands were firmly safe inside their respective knitted garments she looked down at the flake again. “Hm, if it holds up and doesn’t melt away it would make such a pretty necklace charm.”

And that decision was immediately made! She’d be keeping it. She was interested to see if it ever melted, and if not, well, she got herself a new charm!

With a happy grin she carefully placed the flake into her bag before continuing on her merry way home where hot chocolate awaited her!
