Vesin followed closely behind her twin and tried to breath a little as possible. The smell was horrible and quite honestly made her want to throw up. But she was persistent and wouldn't let that keep her from getting the job done. This place made her weary, the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end and her senses seemed hyper active. It was when she heard the sound of running feet only moments before she herself had noticed the glow. "We should be careful. We don't know who that is. For all we know, it could be the killer leading us to a trap. We should tread carefully." Vesin's voice was soft and meant for her twin but it was clear enough for others around to hear. "Perhaps we should split into smaller groups and put a little distance between us, not completely separating, but putting space so that if it is a trap, we won't all be cut off and the rest can help." She commented as a suggestion to C'tis.
Kelilayth too felt uneasy and only the worry for his rider kept him on the ground. He needed to be able to get one or both of the twins. He sent to the twins and Tiaeth. His wings rustled uneasily as he kept moving and inspecting anything and everything he could.

C'tis pondered this suggestion for a few moments and then nodded, he didn't like dividing forces but it was possible that some kind of trap lay ahead that Fang would fail to notice. "You, you, and you keep back around the corner until I signal," he said shortly before continuing after the footsteps.
Malcarreth meanwhile reached out to the other dragons.

“Grandpapaaaaaaa!” There was a wail from somewhere down the corridor, and then a growl. This was the sort of growl that sent shivers down the spine, tapping into some primal root of fear deep in the brain. Monkeys hid in trees from this sort of growl.
The light carried by the riders glinted off of two large angry red eyes at about waist level.
Smart riders might have recognised it as a wher.

Oh great.
"Alright, this is the part where we back away slowly," C'tis said firmly, not taking his eyes off the wher's and resisting the urge to go for his sword, it was probably smart enough to interpret that as a threat. "Don't run unless it charges, just back down the corridor." Fang landed on his shoulders at that point, and C'tis only just persuaded the little beast not to attack the wher. Fang had firestone in his belly though, if the wher did make a rush for them a blast at its eyes might deter it. Fang might even be quick enough to get away before he became a snack. "Everyone keep your glows high, it won't like coming near so many of them."
That had been a child's voice though, this wasn't a trap - probably? - they'd just run into a guardian without its human brain to hold it in check. Would the handler come quickly? He hoped so... unless of course 'grandpa' actually was up to something nefarious and would tell it to kill them. There was no room in here to fight the thing properly, no, they needed to get outside into the light and into the direct line of sight of their dragons so that they could force the sharded thing to back down.
Outside the Hold Malcarreth growled and changed course, heading back towards where they had landed. he sent to the other dragons. quickly back to the door and get out. We dragons will cluster around the entrance - with gaps for riders to get through - and anyone who catches a glimpse of the wher is to force it to be still. Understood?>

Ra'fe stilled, at the deep primal growl and slowly started to back away. He sent, keeping his steps light and firm on the stone as he backed away. He did not wish to tangle with a wher in a tight hall.
He didn't wish to tangle with a wher any where, but certainly not now.
Banneth jerked slightly and turned, moving fluidly towards the hold.
Ra'fe sent.

Vosin and Bronze Tiaeth
Vosin wanted to giggle at her twin. Here they were, creeping slowly down the tunnel and her twin wanted them to be careful. It was hard to be more careful than what they were doing, she thought. As long as the groups didn't get separated it sounded like a feasible idea. It pleased her when C'tis took the suggestion and implemented it. Vos grinned in sympathy for those three ordered behind.
Isn't that always the case? she thought back to the bronze her twin rode. There was the voice again, calling for 'grandpapa', so there was at least two people down here. A growl filled the tunnel. She couldn't stop the sense of fear that traveled up her spine and made her want to freeze. Vosin struggled to master it as it brought back memories, and focused on what was in front of them. A pair of angry red eyes about waist high.
Are we still going to fly or do you want me to watch too? Tiaeth asked, trying to make sure of orders this time before making a move. The bronze bugled as he felt his rider's fear. He sent love and firm assurance. It hasn't attacked yet mine. A wher. Breathe. Follow instructions. Back slowly and bring Ves. He turned to follow the blue with new clear orders, and landed near Malcarreth.
A wher. Right. Vosin breathed out slowly. She made sure she had a hand on her twin's arm and gently eased back, keeping her glow high. She wanted as much possible warning it was coming as she could get. A short knife didn't seem like much protection now. "How are we going to deal with them?" She was thinking of the two people that they knew were alive for sure. Vosin doubted the wher was going to try to follow them out into the sun. Impasse. They couldn't get in and the other people, probably, weren't coming out. Now what? These people probably held the information they needed.

Valdene (V'den) and Suuyeth
Suuyeth chirped to Malcarreth,
Allright, that was an exaggeration. Suuyeth certainly did notice things he wasn't supposed to, and he had definitely noticed the lovely, big, time blues.
Valdene blanched and decided to stay very, very still at the announcement of a wher. Whers were bad news, and thank the stars she had never had the occasion to fight one or... well... deal with them. Ever.
he crooned,
Most things, in Valdene's experience, didn't growl a menacing hello.

The wher advanced, growling, and very evidently unhappy with these dragon-smelling people in its territory. As the light from the glows washed over it, it was revealed as a - relatively, as anything the size of a runner could be - small blue creature, with a blaze down its nose. For now, though, it seemed happy to intimidate rather then attack, which might well have been a sign that it didn't have much (or any) backup.
