Chel began walking towards the door. "Only if you can take it from me~"

She then opened the door and laughed, gesturing for him to follow.

Taking a breath, a crestfallen and still flushed Dawson got up and went after her. It was less to get his hat back and more because Chel was The Leader right now, and you always followed those even if you'd rather sit and smell the hush puppies and think about Life Choices.

"Y'don't want it," he assured her as he tried to take his cap back. "Smells bad." Well it smelled find to him honestly, but to other people it apparently did.

Chel raised an eyebrow and lifted the hat off her head, putting her nose right in the middle of it. For someone who lived in her own filth twenty-four seven, it smelled perfectly fine to her.

She shrugged and handed it back to him, putting it on his head. "I don't smell nothin'." While they walked, she grabbed his arm and pulled it around her shoulder, twining her fingers together with his. It was more comfortable to walk this way for Chel, rather than awkwardly standing a few feet apart. She did it with Dory and Chris too.

"So you played video games?" It seemed as good as topic as any to talk about. Something they both had in common and would enjoy.

She didn't? Huh...Blinking in surprise, he let Chel do as she wanted and adjusted his cap with his free hand. He used to know some girls who were just as touchy as she was, and he was quietly thrilled to be the recipient of that attention again.

"Yup. Stuff like Soul Caliber n' Smash Brothers," he replied, letting their hands swing. "Things that letcha button smash n' win." He never did figure out how people strategized. "Used t'have some Star Fox stuff afore James David—he's my brother, a 'lil younger than me—JD hawked 'em t'get somethin' stupid fer his ps3." Pause, thoughtful look up. "Or was it fer straight up cash...I don' remember, JD did a lotta stupid s**t."

She blinked a few times, wondering if Chris ever got mad at her for selling their games for new ones. He never seemed to be mad, but she'd never really thought about it either ...

"Fighting games are cool! I'm more Mortal Kombat than Soul Caliber." She winked, leaving him to decide what that meant. "Love them tits in Soul Caliber though." She mimicked the size of the breasts against her own chest with a hand. "Always been more of an a** person though."

Her other arm snaked around his waist while his arm was around her shoulder. "I'd invite ya ta play games, but I had to trade all my games for the Lord of the Rings movies." She whistled and said, "Too bad too- I had mario kart and smash bros and everythin'. Now all I got's a sad lil empty N64."

He chuckled. "Not gonna lie, I made a chick with boobs even Ivy'd stare at in the custom thingie just fer fun..." Oh Soul Caliber.

"But, uh, why'd ya do that?" Dawson had to ask with a curious frown, hoping to high heaven that he didn't start nervously sweating in their new position. "Not sayin' they ain't good movies, but...Mario Kart. Smash Brothers."

"Haven't we all?" Chel said with a very snarky grin. If Dawson wasn't clued into Chel's sexuality by now, he was denser than anything.

Chel laughed at his genuine kiddish nature (one that she too shared). "A good buddy of mine hadn't seen 'em- his weapon's a tree giant and he was all excited about it too. Figured that was more important than a game I've played a million times." Her grin assured Dawson that she didn't regret it.

By now they'd gotten outside the dorms and were standing at the entrance. "Where should we go on our walk, cowboy?"

He did regret it for her, if only because now Dawson knew he had missed out on games with cool people; but he admired Chel's commitment to her buddy. "Things ya do for friends, yeah?" But that also meant eventually, after getting the funds, he could potentially stock back up on his games again...Well, assuming the basement had good enough circuitry. He sort of doubted it. Sigh, square one again.

"Uh...Shouldn't we stick around?" he said with a quizzical look. "Mebbe it won' take too long t'cool off." Or maybe his stomach was talking. (It was definitely talking.) "Er...Just 'round the quad or somethin'? I, uh, ain't been doin' much wanderin' around yet..."

"Sounds good to me," she said, knowingly reaching over to tuck some of his hair behind his ear. "There's a cool pile of rubble on the other side of the building from when a giant insanity dragon attacked the island." She pointed and began tugging him in that direction.

She looked up at Dawson and said, "Don't you worry, I'm not gonna torture ya. Just been cooped up in my room too much lately. Feels nice to walk around with someone. Hope that's okay?"

Dawson stared her in a mix of abject horror and morbid curiosity. Hadn't America mentioned a dragon too? Hol-ee s**t.

"Y-Yeah, that's fine," he replied, absently touching the spot she had tucked. "Yer fine. I-I mean good. Great. Ain't in a rush t'get back down there m'self." He let her lead the way and mentally kicked himself.

"So, uh, what kinda dragon you said?"

"I'm fine as hell too," Chel corrected with some snark. She found her place on the rubble pile (somewhere near the top- because god forbid she not climb to the very top) and patted a big rock next to her for Dawson to sit on.

Chel bobbed her head as Dawson spoke. "Insanity. It's uh ... Hm. So Halloween monsters- they made of these little bits called FEAR. Most the time when we kill 'em, they just break apart and reassemble themselves back home. But sometimes the bits don't fit back together the right way. So ya get new stuff that's uncontrollable kinda? It's called insanity." She blew her bangs out of her face. "Sorry m'not the best at explainin' stuff. Never had a good noggin."

He had a little trouble with balance atop the rocks, but he managed to plop down beside her after a little scuffling. When we kill 'em, Chel said, like it was nothing. Guess for Suns it kind of wasn't. But it made Dawson doubly glad his main job was keeping the heat off hunters, not actively smashing and killing, even though Syn was trying to convince him with feral relish that that was the best part. Worse, though, was learning that killing them wasn't even really killing them: like an army of zombies, except they weren't all afraid of fire.

He gulped.

"S'that bad fer us?" he asked, not quite sure he had his head wrapped around it himself. Wait, wrong question. "How bad s'it fer us?"

Once Dawson was seated, Chel (lovingly) draped herself across his lap, looking up at him idly while her feet swung off the pile. Personal bubbles were not a thing that existed in Chel's world unless explicitly stated.

"Super shitty for us. 'Cause like ... if you beat up a baddie in a place it can't reassemble, the FEAR's lost for good. Kaput. Dead-o." She talked casually about it due to sun rhetoric, but she did feel a little ashamed of it. Only a little. "But insanity- nah. That s**t can go anywhere. Even if you kill it they usually just come back with a different form. Real nasty stuff- hard to get rid of for good. S'why they got a whole squad of lifers studyin' that s**t." She shuddered and said, "Hey- tip from senior to junior- if a lifer ever asks you for help or like ... wants you to participate in an experiment, just run. ********' run dude."

She grinned and pushed her cheek against Dawson's leg. "Sorry if I'm freakin' you out or anything. I'm just not sensitive to this kind of stuff anymore. Heck I almost died last month. 'Course that was my fault ..."

It was a lot to take in, mentally and physically. Dawson anxiously kept still for her, gulped again, and was at a loss for words for a few moments. He knew he had signed up to fight monsters, but God damn...

"Uh..." He reached down and pat her back sympathetically, still a little bewildered by all of that. "S-Sawry t'hear..?" What did you even say to that?? "I, uh, figured you were a tough gal?"

"'Course I am," Chel agreed with him, flexing one of her arms to reveal her muscles, "These guns aren't just for show." She winked to further emphasize her point.

Then she went back to laying across his lap, closing her eyes. Her voice was a hum against his leg. "I like talkin' to you Dawson. I know it's hella weird to say, but I feel like I known you for a long time already. S'at okay with you?"
