LOTR pt. 3
He kept his eyes on the movie so that Owain was distracted, because the more he was the better it would be. Less peanut gallery, less guilt tripping. Automatically Jack's hands left his lap as she got situated, hesitating before crossing his arms over his stomach.
Do not touch, he reminded himself.
"Payback would mean letting you sleep through everything," he pointed out. "Including my annoying commentary. Who's Sean Bean?"

LOTR pt. 3
"Bruh holding your arms like that is going to get annoying," she said without her eyes leaving the screen. She just knew by the tension she felt that Jack was being and awkward butt. Instead of requiring him to touch, she scooted her body forward without moving her head, leaving a gap between her and the bedframe for him to put his hand. "How could I sleep through your melodious monotone commentary?"
She pointed to Boromir as he came on screen. "Pissy humans' actor. Don't get attached. The joke is that no matter what Sean Bean's in, he'll die pretty quick."

He kept his arms as they were. "I'm fine." Of course he was.
"God damn it," Jack groaned at the news. "Everyone I actually like is dying." Pause. "Hey, movie, you know who I really like? Elijah Wood's fatass friend," he announced loudly. "The really loyal one totally can't die, they're totally bros or in love or something, it'd be really tragic and cause me to feel emotions if he had to leave."

"There there," Chel comforted, aided by her patting his leg a few times. "None of the hot chicks die and I think that's all that really matters."
Seeing as Jack hadn't adjusted himself, she moved back to her original, more comfortable position. "What do you have against Sam- he's super cute."

Of course the hot chicks lived. They only died when it meant man angst was coming.
"I don't have anything against him really," Jack explained, his grip growing tighter for a moment as she scooted back up. "I just know I can't ask them to kill Frodo because he's clearly their main character for now, so the guy seemed like an acceptable target."
And because disliking someone was normal for him, and that was what he was trying to be right now.

LOTR pt. 3
"You could just enjoy the movie without wanting to kill anyone~" she cooed.
The rain outside was beginning to get heavier. Chel fumbled across Jack's legs for the remote, turning the volume up to compensate the change. "So sick of the ********' rain," she whistled. "I'm just glad there ain't thunder n' lightning n' s**t." Boromir's death scene was approaching she could see it.

"But that wouldn't be fun."
He didn't mind the rain so much--hell, it was a blessing after weeks of dry, hot, and sunny weather. The extra layer of chill was welcome and helped numb his hands. "S'long as it doesn't cut the power, yeah," Jack said with a tiny shrug.
He watched Boromir become a pincushion and appreciated that, in spite of his d**k moves earlier with Elijah Wood, he went out like a hero. Jack was a little confused, though, when the movie looked like it was ending with the party splitting. "So after all of that it ends on a cliff hanger?" he asked. "Bastards."
(( But what a wonderful production! )) Owain cheered, coming alive as the contemplative credits song began. (( Everything was exquisite. The players, the scenery, the costumes... ))

"I'm kind of afraid of lightning ..." She admitted. "I like pictures 'n s**t, but it wigs me out."
The movie was indeed winding down, and Chel turned herself so she was looking up at Jack with the back of her head resting gently on his thighs. "Yeah, that's why there's a second and third movie. The Hobbit is the prequel story ... it's also split into three parts, but only the first one is out ... or maybe the second one, I can't remember. It's been a while since I read up on human world movies."
She let out a yawn. "What d'you wanna do now?"

He glanced down at her with a brow quirked. "Why? You're more likely to die from eating a cupcake from my division at this point." There wasn't any insult there; the fear just didn't make sense to him since the chances of getting struck were negligible.
(The first time he's held hostage in the desert, the horsemen lets shock therapy occur between examinations just for some a*****e's sick revenge bender, to be fair to all parties involved in his kidnapping. Killing him is still a moment he can enjoy with full, violent satisfaction, even if it's one that doesn't last with these damn things.)
Uncrossing his arms before the stiffness made him regret it, he made them cross behind his head instead and laid back against the bed. The movie progression was confusing and his frown showed it.
"Why would they make the movies first and then the prequels?" Jack asked, which apparently meant that what he wanted to do now was talk. "Isn't that what Star Wars did and it kinda went to s**t?"

Chel's lips curled in a smile as she watched him fidget with his arms. It made her feel like even Jack had weaknesses.
"Dunno. It's the sound, the bright light. Just somethin' scary about it." She face softened a bit. "Kind funny, since doesn't fear breed more of those monsters?"
She rolled over once more, nose just barely bumping into his stomach. "Yeah, but the Hobbit's kind of its own story. Dude wrote 'em separate than the other three so it's a little more straightforward."
She nuzzled herself into his stomach because he hadn't yet told her to stop, and it was more comfortable this way. Even if it was just pretend. "As for Star Wars, we don't talk about those."

"There are things out there that use electricity. That's probably where it goes," he guessed. "Probably some creatures that are pure lightning as well."
He needed to keep talking because every moment of extra contact was making a compelling argument of what Chel should be doing while she's down there, and he just knew giving into it would just lead to more poor life decisions that neither of them needed. His partner made indignant noises at the images and flooded his head with recent stills of the movie, which both helped distract and also distracted too much. Jack looked dazed for a split second.
"Time's up. Off," he suddenly ordered, not so much harsh as he was firm. (He didn't know why he let it go on for so long anyway.) And then Jack was back to a conversational tone. "Is Star Wars the Fight Club of nerds or something?"

Chel's mind is elsewhere. She finds herself on a rock in the center of a river. The boulder protrudes enough out of the water to keep her dry, but the river spreads and rushes around her too great for her to attempt to swim to either side.
From such a great height, she can see she is close to the edge of a waterfall. She peers into the valley below. " Such thoughts distress her. She sits on the rock. It's lonely.
---
"Sorry? What did you say?" To Jack it might sound like a taunt to his command. She is unsure of her surroundings, but takes the opportunity to throw her arm around his waist. It seems appropriate. "Star Wars is ... something I don't know about." It was a blip. A minor glitch. "Am I doing this correctly at the moment?"

The shift in language is enough to tip him off that something's up even before the arm comes around him and the sarcasm is registered. Eyes narrowing, he uncrossed his arms and placed a hand on both her shoulders, starting to push her back. "Off," he repeats, this time harsh and firm.

"Jack? Can you hear me?" It was worth a shot. Maybe she had some kind of connection with the outside world.
She lays back on the rock, wondering what sort of things that figure was doing to Jack. Her mind was filled with scenarios of the figure, posing as her, killing Jack. Oddly, it then filled with a montage of her being badass and taking down Deus Ex single-handedly.
If it was anything like her previous experiences, this was bound to take a while. Might as well have fun with her imagination until then.
---
Immediately she detached from him and pulled herself away, almost falling backwards with the combined momentum of her movement and Jack's push. "Pardon me I-"
Immediately Chel's mouth clamped shut. She was silent for a long moment, eyes closed, as though contemplating deep in thought. She was reading. Then she fell back on her heels. "Sorry, sorry. Just givin' ya a hard time." She grinned something malicious and said, "You want the other DVDs too? Or you want me to hold 'em here for later?"
Chel is the same, but her eyes are dark.

He'd been in the Sahara long enough; his self-defense instincts were still as sharp as a scavenger's. In the moments of sudden silence, Jack got up, grabbed a plate (hardly anything against a hunter's shield, but a knock to the head was a knock to the head), and backed up a few steps. He wanted his weapon in hand out of instinct but curbed the impulse.
"Who are you?" he asked, his calm tone belied by his tense posture.
