She could see the shift in Hijil's expression but couldn't quit place it. Black eyes flickered over the Shifter's face, almost concerned, but Hijil relaxed and so did Bhima too. Her smile reemerged with the same ease as before this particular branch of the conversation. With Hijil's reassurance there was a swell of joy in her chest and her smile grew broader.
She would stay? They would be together? She felt like a child again, if only briefly. A hand lifted to the Shifter's cheek and a thumb stroked it softly. There would be worries for them in the future, they were a couple of mismatched race in a world feeling some tension, but she didn't care. It would be worth everything.
"Of course I do," she said, her voice uncharacteristically soft, "There's nothing to forgive. You're here now, with me. That's all that matters." She didn't feel any resentment and never had. She had worried for Hijil, not blamed her, at least not since the first couple of nights she had gone missing, but Hijil was alive and had done what she thought was necessary. Why would she hold a grudge?

Nothing to forgive? Did Bhima really think that, when Hijil couldn't forgive herself? It was an odd feeling, something that was so drastically good and bad that Hijil wasn't sure how she felt. She decided to worry about the bad later. Tonight was overwhelmingly good, and she couldn't think much further then the two of them, together. Hopefully, forever. Hopefully there would be nothing else to tear them apart.
”Yes.” she said, her hand on Bhima's cheek a mirror of Bhima's hand on her own as she brought the Alkidike's face closer. ”I'm here. Now.” at last.
And then, drawn inexorably to her with powerful emotion, she kissed Bhima again, her arm extending and curling around her to hold her close.

Bhima accepted the gesture without hesitation. One of her hands moved to the smaller woman's waist and the other rose to lay in her hair. This was all she had wanted for so long, and she'd never imagined that she would achieve it. Now it was reality, and she could feel something inexplicable changing. Her soul? No, too deep. Her emotions? Not deep enough. Rather than consider any further, she melted into Hijil and kissed her with the ferocity of someone who had been left wanting.
