Chin on hand, the doctor smiled vaguely at her across the table and answered plainly, "I do not have Marie right now. In fact, I have not had her in nearly a year. You have me here, alone, two drinks in and the weakest and most vulnerable you shall ever find me. If I am the obstacle in your path, you had best remove me now, my dove, as this opportunity will not arise again." He finished his glass and checked his watch. "You have...ten minutes until the next course arrives."

Sasha watched him in silence, feeling more alive in that instant than she had in such a long, long time. She pushed her chair back and placed her napkin quite precisely on the table before moving to her feet. She very slowly circled the table, fingernails dragging along the fabric of the tablecloth as she moved closer to the Doctor.
When she reached him, she trailed her fingers up his arm, across his shoulder, the back of his neck. He truly was the most beautiful man she'd ever known, absolute perfection. She was shocked to learn that he was without Marie, and had been for such a long time. Sasha had been without Nona for months, and it had been awful being so weak and at the mercy of those around her. Shieldless, weaponless, disgusting.
Sasha leaned in to whisper in his ear, a black and hushed exhalation of words.
"I'm not finished with you yet, my dear."
She snapped her teeth in the air mere millimeters from his ear before pulling back, tracing the curve of his jaw and the tendons of his neck. Her fingers lingered against his adams apple, twitching briefly before she moved away completely.
"There will always be another opportunity, doctor. And," Sasha seated herself in her chair once more, lips curling in a smile that only the truly mad knew, "you still have so much to teach me, don't you? Besides, Doctor H, it really isn't fair of you to cheat me out of a real, true challenge, not after everything I've accomplished. I deserve better from you, and I am not afraid to die at your hands should that be the end result."
She glanced around and placed her napkin in her lap once more.
"What are they serving for the next course? And I'm dying of curiosity, Doctor. Since we seem to be sharing a moment, what does the H stand for?"

"If you have not the will my dear, do not pretend to it. If you are patient enough to wait, pray do have the patience to hold off on the posturing you cannot, yet, live up to." He poured himself another glass, and topped up her own. "Dessert. And it stands," the doctor spoke with a grin that bordered on boyish, "for the letter H, because that is what comes after the letter G."

His warning did not go unheeded. Instead of focusing on the entirety of the words he spoke, she focused instead on one single word: yet. Sasha eyed that grin, her own lips twitching with something that might have been genuine humor. "Well, that makes perfect sense, doesn't it? And when will you become Doctor I?" She lifted the glass to her lips and leaned back in her chair once more, eyes moving towards the skyline. "What is this building? It seems an odd place to have dinner."

"Oh, I was for awhile. There was a little, hmm...situation, with myself and the other leaders, involving an attempt to retrieve Excalibur." Hit eyes followed her own, and again, the doctor looked a bit wistful. "This is where Velda and all of the Life Division, excepting myself of course, died in 1999."

Sasha let out a low hum. "And why did you bring me here? Promotion aside, Doctor."

"To reminisce, my dear." He lifted his glass to her, "And because I thought you'd like to see it. The place where Conquest, in his pride, enabled his own destruction." He grinned, and drank. "If you had my strength and position, Sasha, what would you do with it?"

Sasha laced her fingers together and leaned her cheek against the back of her hand while she watched him drink. Her answer was not really an answer, but a question in return. "Why do you need the other division leads, Doctor? Is there a reason you keep them around? Why isn't there just.. one person in charge on the island? One person, and then a few.. smaller people?"

Hi laughter filled the rooftop as dessert was delivered. The doctor didn't even wait for the server to leave when he asked in turn, "And after that? What would that one person do, with that position and the power that goes with it?"

"Whatever you wanted, Doctor. This island and the great minds on it - you, specifically, Doctor - would have the power and means to accomplish anything you wanted. For good, or... other things. Haven't you ever thought about it?"

"Of course I have, dove. But it is your promotion, so I am asking you. What do you wish to do with power other than use it to gain more power?" The doctor slid his fork through delicate layers of his dessert, but kept his eyes steady on her. He was going to persist until she answered him to his own satisfaction.

Sasha took a bite of dessert, enjoying the luxurious sweetness on her tongue. "I would use our power to gather more resources for the island - there's still so much that could be done here. There has to be a better way for weaponization. What we're doing now feels so archaic and medieval. Runes, Doctor?" Sasha waved her hand. "It has worked for us. It continues to work for us. But couldn't there be a better way to accomplish things? And keeping pods filled with prospects - it's a drain of resources. Money, time, manpower. I would look into streamlining that, as well - and there are too many foolish people on the island, careless people who might, oh, I don't know - accidentally flip a switch so that we're left with heaps of bodies and out not only money but time, effort and prospective trainees." She took a sip of wine. "But quite honestly, Doctor, I want to get off of this island. We have outposts, yes, but more could be accomplished if we were actually on the grid. I realize we can use portals, but can't we take that technology further?" Sasha paused. "Time travel, perhaps?"

Though he was obviously listening carefully to her words, weighing them and calculating the worth of not just the ideas themselves but everything they might reveal in the woman currently across from him at the moment (and only at the moment, because by her own words, Sasha was many such girls and women, and perhaps not all their goals aligned) the doctor remained silent, neither dismissing nor approving of anything she said. There were none of his input and whatever judgements he had, he kept to himself. When Sasha mentioned time travel, though, he suddenly grinned with a very sincere sort of humor. "I'm sure Dr. Kircher...ah, I mean Dr. Morris, were you aware that Mimsy had finally married our favourite lump of muscle and messy emotion? I'm sure she'd be delighted to see that sort of shift in focus, though I myself am very fond of this world as it is. Perhaps you should discuss it with her."
