Dis’s ears twitched at the sound of her youngest son’s name on the elf’s lips. This was certainly the one Fili had brought in, no question about it. Dis kept her silence listening, with interest, to what the elf maiden had to say. She sounded sincere in her desire to simply help Kili. There was no sign of an ulterior motive. Her eldest had gone to find help and the mare had offered her assistance. Perhaps out of guilt, perhaps out of duty. Those specifics didn’t concern her. All that mattered to Dis was that this mare was not somehow acting under that b*****d elf king’s orders.
“He… He isn’t…?”
Dis’s eyebrow rose further in questioning before finally coming to understand. “Kili is fine, thanks to you it seems. Fili has been keeping an eye on him as have his uncles.”
Tauriel couldn’t explain the relief she felt. She had experienced close calls with others before and the feelings she got when the survived didn’t quite match up. “I am… glad he is doing well.” She said unable to meet the steady gaze of the dwarf before her any longer.

An amused smile crossed Dis’s lips at the elf’s reaction. “I only came out to deliver the news to you, provided that you were still around and also, to express my gratitude. I already lost my husband; I am glad that I did not lose one of my sons as well.” Dis bowed her head elegantly for just a moment as was proper in such circumstances.
“I should return before I am missed.” She paused for a moment before the smiled flitted from her face. “To be clear, you have my thanks. Myself, and my sons are in your debt but do not think that my gratitude will extend to the rest of my kin. There is only so much I can do. Do you understand?” Dis would do all she could to repay the mare but even her power had limits. She was not, and never would be, the king and their king-in-exile did not take kindly to elves of any kind. “I understand.” Tauriel replied not sure if she was even awake anymore. It was all beginning to feel like a long dream. She had very little experience with dwarves but these had all been surprisingly… gracious to her. If not for them constantly reminding her that others wouldn’t take kindly to her she might have thought that all dwarves were like that.
“I will take care.” She promised making no indication as to how she would take care. Would she leave now that she knew Kili was alright? She didn’t know. ”Please do, and remember, if you ever need me to make good on my word, my name is Lady Dis. There are very few dwarves in these parts that do not know me.” With that Dis bowed once more and began to make her way back the way she had come. She had said what she had come to say, keeping away any longer would be suspicious. Before she got too far away Dis glanced back at the elf, she would be staying, Dis could feel it in her bones. Things would likely get even more interesting for her family before long.
“First a hobbit… now an elf. We just keep picking up strays.” Dis murmured to herself though she was not sure if she found it humorous or not.~~~
