Though Kent would never admit it, there was a very small part of him that was relieved he wasn't the only one Tara was shutting out. She wasn't turning him away because he'd botched everything beyond repair. At least, not entirely. That very small part was shamed into hiding by the rest of him, which wondered if Tara didn't even let Laney help, how were they going to get her back?
Of course he had other questions. He wanted to know everything- how it started, what happened, what he was supposed to do now. How to cope with everything. If there were any regrets she had. But he didn't think that Laney had the answers to most of his questions, and the ones she might be able to answer were a little too personal to ask of his kid sister's best friend.
Besides, he was still sorting through what she'd already told him, and having a hard time believing it. Did he really need her to tie his brain up in even more knots?
"I'll let you know if I have any other questions." Because there was probably something major he was forgetting, with everything else running through his head. He made a mental note of the name she gave him, nodding to himself. "Hver. Okay. And, uh, Nazca," he added, tapping his chest with his fingertips. Kent still wasn't used to the name, and the fact that something about it felt right just confused him even more.
Even though no urgent questions sprung to mind, there was one more thing he needed to take care of. "I'm sorry about before- about not believing you." He still wasn't sure if he did or not, but it was clear that Laney was trying her best to help, and the fact that he'd doubted that was surely insulting. Really, he was surprised that she'd been as patient with him as she was. "I'm glad that Tara has as good a friend as you to count on, even if she's having a hard time remembering that right now."
And that was the main issue. What could they do about it? That overshadowed his curiosity about everything else, but Kent doubted Laney knew herself, or she would have done something already. Which would be nice, for Tara's sake, but he wasn't going to put that kind of pressure on anyone other than himself.
