The person did not respond. There was one last sigh, and then it stopped breathing altogether.

The raised hand dropped lifeless, and it, as the Death lead and Rep's documentation confirmed, was very much dead.

It remained very much dead for about ten seconds longer before the body jolted up, as if moving through puppet strings, black liquid leaking from eyes, nose, and mouth as it reached out with clawed hands and tried its very best to strangle Rep.

Rep's first utterly panicked reaction was to pry razor sharp claws off of his throat, it was no mean feat, the creature really didn't want to give up his throat and when he finally got them off, he was panting for breath to recover. That was what he got when he considered helping people for even a ******** moment, a set of claws to his throat or a knife in his back.

Still wincing from the absolute scolding he got from Tracey for getting close enough to grab in the first place, he tried to put some distance between himself and the creature, summoning the axe all over again. This time he tried to fight more carefully than before, but there was only really so much careful you could do when your weapon was as large as a room.

Rep managed to lop one of the thing's arms off, and it flopped a fair bit before stilling. The reanimated corpse (zombie), limped forward, step by step. It wasn't very good at this limping thing, and managed to overturn two trays, a bunch of notebooks, and tear some sheets of official proper documentation, in the stumbling shuffle of finding brains, or whatever it was looking for.

It made a noise, but it could have said anything from "He rises" to "Surprises". Or maybe "disguises"-

- And then took a good chomp on Rep's arm with rather decaying black teeth.

Through the small window sliver of door, Caelius, Oz and one other Death Hunter could still be seen discussing things, turned away other direction.

Rep could only cringe as once again a huge amount of s**t was completely wrecked on his watch. At this point he was really starting to wonder if it was some kind of curse he carried around, a curse which might well make him a semi-decent Sun but a completely terrible everything else.

He couldn't make out what the dude was saying, but before he could haul his axe out of the floor and swing it again he found himself with a set of teeth right in his arm. His reaction was not one his was proud of, he proceeded to scream and try with his other hand to pry it off until he managed it, before (at the behest of a lot of Tracey swearing) picking up the axe again and actually doing some effectual damage with another cleaving swing that wasn't very good at all for the structural integrity of the floor.

"- and remained deceased," finished Caelius, impatiently on the other side of the door, of which Rep could not hear, as the room was soundproof, and designed to be such for obvious reasons, "so unless the body somehow resurrects with the exact conditions of infection as you claim-"

- Meanwhile on the other side of the other side of the door, the body resurrecting with the exact conditions of infection had lost both arms, and was currently doing a slow shuffle towards Rep. Translucent white crystals began to spring from its body, and was actually slowing it down further. A mirror once again began to form along the trail of crystals, a long door-sized mirror, opaque at the other end. More crystallized hands began to stretch out from inside the mirror.

Rep could only do what he could, and what he was capable of doing was chopping things relentlessly with a giant axe. Right now even that was proving hard, the room hardly big enough to do anything significant in and rapidly filling with hazards as once again the mirror effect spilled over into the room around him, the zombie was becoming less of a problem but things were only filling in the gap that it's pace left behind.

He was tempted to make a break for the door but even that was going to be ******** tough to do now the grabby hands were back on the scene.

Tracey offered helpfully.

Opaque crystals began to sprout from where Rep had been wounded, slowly covering one hand, rendering it immobile. It relentlessly and slowly spread towards his elbow, then his shoulder.

At the same time five half-formed fragments appeared, all of them oddly misshapen, something incomplete about them. Instead of attacking Rep however, they immediately went for the corpse, tearing it into hundreds of pieces with their fragmented arms. Dark blood splattered everywhere.

Then slowly, all of them turned towards the Sun Hunter, advancing slowly.

Rep did what any right minded and brave Sun hunter would do when faced with an impossible army and quickly losing control of his limbs.

He ran straight for the door, dragging Tracey in his good arm as he went, letting go only to rattle the doorknob and try to escape and throwing his shoulder hard against it.

"A LITTLE HELP?" he called out, panicked, unaware the room was pretty completely soundproofed.

Several of the crystallized arms had already snagged his feet, attempting to drag him into the mirror again. The damage encasing his arm had spread down his chest, numbing all other sensation. Everything seemed to slow down, just a little more.

Meanwhile the Death lead was still turned around. Oz however, faced Rep's direction, taking everything that was happening inside the room through the tiny sliver of door window.

He quietly covered up the sliver of window with a single taped piece of paper giving Rep the privacy he deserved.

Furious and betrayed at Oz as far as he was concerned abandoning him to die, Rep was left with no option of real escape and had to turn to face the mirrors, struggling hard to move at all. It took everything he had to gather what fear he'd managed to accumulate and channel it into the axe.

His charge was no grand leap as usual, no wild display of risk and power, instead it was a restrained swing in the confines of a too-small room fueled by desperation and stolen fear. It wasn't his usual attack but the one reserved for only the most desperate situations, the fear that had killed Shiloh and which cost him his own shield and lifeblood just to sustain.

Tracey's black talons struck from the shadows many, many times and then receded, leaving him a little less than he was before.

The charged attacks smashed through the mirror, cleaving through the fragmented figures as if they were made of just glass. The mirror dissipated, leaving behind only deep gouges against the already blood-splattered walls and floor. There was a fully cleaved table, and interrogation instruments scattered everywhere. Even the crystals sprouting from the Sun Hunter's wound had disappeared, leaving a rather impressive gash behind. It fully looked like Rep had singlehandedly fought and somewhat survived the zombie apocalypse.

It was at this point in time that the door opened.

Caelius took one look at the room, and then zeroed in on the single person responsible.

Rep was busy trying to stem the bleeding from his injuries when he noticed the door was finally open, in the adrenaline and pain he wasn't thinking entirely straight.

"Thank you sir for the help there. It was only another murderous mirror and sentient body I had to deal with."

He then slowly came down off his anger.

"I mean... um. I mean .... I didn't just break things. It was self defence!"

"No," Caelius repeated, "you didn't just break things. You destroyed everything in this ******** room. While I don't expect much from a temporary replacement, there is a minimal amount of self integrity I expect from a Hunter, especially when it comes to their work conduct."

Oz's eyes began to glaze over. The Death lead was in lecture mode.

"-Because even someone like you would be able to manage such a menial job." continued Caelius, "For someone already in the Sun Division, your record of incomplete, incompetent tasks is abysmal, if you had even taken a moment to consider..." he just continued on in this strain for another five minutes and it began to sound a lot like he was repeating himself, which he probably was. There were some scathing words thrown in like priorities, not deserving things, and for good measure something about how everyone was unequal, and about using a mental capacity that was already confirmed as null. He would have continued along his tirade, almost at the part where he talked about how nobody applied their basic knowledge to application, so on so forth, when his probably ten-year old model cell phone buzzed. Without another word he stepped outside the room.

The other Death Hunter, a blank-looking sort of guy just stared straight forward expressionlessly. Oz pushed fragments of fallen articles and glass around with his feet. Five minutes later the Death lead stepped in again.

"I will see all of you at the lighthouse portal to neutralize this problem." He wasn't actually specific as to what this problem was, and before Rep had any chance to ask, they were all exiting the room and down the hallway, at a pace suitable for people who specialized in being extremely elusive.

At the lighthouse, a team was already waiting for them, and along with Rep, they numbered six total. All of them wordlessly took the proper equipment as needed, flashlights, runic weapons, headsets, Fear scanners, all combined with a supplies pack, and stepped just as wordlessly into the portal. This was probably what it felt like to be extremely, almost bafflingly efficient.

By the time Rep stepped into the portal, everyone else was gone, leaving only a table behind with a single unmanned laptop that was probably meant for someone to use. The login screen stared straight at Rep, requiring of course, a password. There was also a headset next to the computer. Other than that, at least the area looked somewhat peaceful, a great northern wilderness with a rather fantastic lake and mountains in the distance. There was the smell of something burning in the distance, but maybe that was someone else's problem. There was also no sign as to what direction anyone, or everyone had gone.

Rep was used to rants, they almost felt good, it meant that someone - even if they were pissed off - actually cared enough about what he'd done to lecture him. He didn't zone out, instead he listened intently to Cael's every word and because of his questionable self esteem, agreed too. He didn't bother arguing his innocence or that he'd been attacked by a zombie and mirror creatures more than once, folding like yesterday's laundry. When the phone buzzed he was almost disappointed.

The death hunter got a sympathetic look, Oz did not.

When Cael returned Rep did his best to keep up with the orders, picking up equipment and tagging along. When he got there of ******** course he'd been left behind. He sat down at the laptop and donned the headset since it looked like that was what he was stuck doing.

And then he tried guessing passwords, because why the ******** not?

Unfortunately the login still remained a login screen, and at some point timed him out for guessing too many passwords. It would stay like that, requesting that he try again fifteen minutes later.

However, it would be only about the magic number five minutes before the first of the team came back, and by the first of the team, just the Death lead. His coat was covered in a fair amount of blood so either he had wrestled a live bear, or someone else had wrestled a life bear while he watched for about four minutes and thirty-three seconds before heading back.

There was a loud thump as a stone slab was put on the table, the markings archaic, almost indiscernible. There were however, black crystals, growing from the sides of the slab, and still spreading outwards. How the table had not caved in was another question altogether.

"I want you to locate the origin of these exact same runes," continued Caelius, as if somehow between the time span of a day and a few hours give or take, Rep had somehow magically acquired computer skills that were agreeable with the requirements of the Death lead.
