Tribe: Westfen Kin: Westward Bound
This...was not the water he'd come for. It was fine, though: the air was cool and lovely, and it reminded him that when this was all over, he could head out. A relief if he'd ever thought of one! He almost the next bump of wall-against-nose, and turned right toward the insect-like sound: he knew how to deal with pests very well, he thought. Builders did well with foundations and keeping those sorts out; he'd leave the rustling to someone who was a hunter. Though he didn't really know what a hunter would do blind, unless they were accustomed to it, or a zikwa.
This maze was certainly the sort of task he'd leave to zikwa.

One kin thought that the rustling was the correct path, but she would be wrong. However, luck was on her side and missteps bring her down the left path where she joins the kin who successfully followed the scuttling noise. __________________________________________________________

One kin follows the rustling sound and finds that she made the wrong decision. The rustling was the sound of wings brushing together from the bats that had made a dead end in the caves their home. She is quickly ushered out so that the bats aren't overly disturbed. __________________________________________________________ thyPOPE Unfortunately you didn't post for Time to Go today, so she has been kicked out of the maze!

It turns out that the scuttling sounds is beetles. Unfortunately for those who find themselves a little squeamish, some beetles fall from the ceiling of the cave onto the kin walking under them before crawling off and others simply crawl onto the kin from the floor whenever a hoof gets in their path. Soon they become fewer and fewer and those that remain stuck on kin are easily shaken off onto the ground. By the time the kin have to make their next choice, the beetles are long gone. To the left, there is no sound, but there is a dank, almost rotten smell emanating from that direction. To the right, there is also silence, but there is the distinct smell of dust floating down that path towards them. __________________________________________________________ You have 24 hours to respond to this prompt with a short paragraph explaining your kin's decision. Tribe: Westfen Kin: Shameless
Shamless surprisingly didn't mind the beetles so much. A good shake sent them flying; they're more of an annoyance than anything. Now, the dank rotten smell that fills her nose is another thing all together. The doe stops in her tracks, suppressing a gag; how and why would anyone or anything want to try and... live down here was beyond her. Of course, she'd asked herself that many times up to this point, but this was just icing on the proverbial cake. At least she doesn't have to think too hard about this one, instantly going down the right path as to avoid the dank scent.

Sun didn't mind the beetles, but he did mind, well...smells. He wouldn't like to rely on his nose to get around at all. Dust meant something had remained untouched for a long time - and the rotten smell...could mean corpses, or poison. Yet he thought it wiser to head left anyway: better to take the path that other kin had walked recently. Or other life, anyway.
No matter how unpleasant it was. He winced as he walked.

One kin chose the dust but ended up, mistakenly, taking the left path. What might have been misfortune was actually good luck as she joins the kin who have the chance to continue the maze. __________________________________________________________ Melancholies Your lucky roll has resulted in you remaining in the maze!

The kin who head down the left path find that the smell only gets stronger until suddenly they splash into a pool that comes to above their knees. It has gone rancid in the cave with little to disturb it and although the kin are able to walk through it, the experience is thoroughly unpleasant. They will smell of the water for the rest of this challenge until they can get out and take a bath in a fresh pool of water or in a stream. Smelling of bad water, they walk on until they must make another decision. To the left, you smell something wet and alive, like plants split open in the breeze. To the right, you smell nothing, hear nothing, and feel nothing. There is no shift in the air to let you know where to go. __________________________________________________________ You have 24 hours to respond to this prompt with a short paragraph explaining your kin's decision. This is the last prompt! Remember to bold your decision, left or right, and roll a 1d20. __________________________________________________________

If only he could pinch his nostrils shut - then this would be a far easier challenge to bear. And the pool was far too deep for his liking - he pushed against the water with agitation. Fortunately it was not eternal, and when Sun stepped out he...still stank.
How unfortunate.
He stepped cleanly to the left when he came to the next fork, though: perhaps this maze was intended to be a lesson about how to be blind, but the fresh smell of life enticed Sun. He liked living things, and the stench of the water was far too unpleasant for him to continue bearing it: anything that smelled so strongly of green that it outweighed the stink of that pool had to be good.

Tribe: Westfen Kin: Shameless
Despite heading away from the stench, Shameless found herself growing closer to the putrid scent regardless of her attempts. Perhaps the smell was messing with her head; regardless, it was hard not to gag as she suddenly tripped into a shallow pool, the very source of the aroma that was burning her nostrils. She couldn't suppress a sickened cough as she tried to tread through the water, the sound echoing off of the slick walls and down to who knows where.
If anything, at least the pool gave way to solid ground soon enough, even though she now reeked of the very smell that she tried to hard to avoid. Even though Shameless tried desperately to shake the water still clinging to her hide, the stench remained, leaving her to traverse the rest of the cavern blind to her sight and, well, blind to her sense of smell as well. It was hard to scent anything through the cloud she now bore.
As she neared the newest fork, however, something far more pleasant wafted through the stink, cut through like a sharp rock. It was wet too, but what wasn't in this awful place? At least it smelled green and fresh, the latter being something a tad more rare for this environment. She headed down the left path, rushing towards what she hoped might be the end, enticed by possible freedom and the smell of life.

At first it seems as if left is the correct path, but all it leads to is a large patch of mushrooms at a dead end that released their scent when the kin who were stationed there trampled them open. __________________________________________________________
thyPOPE Unfortunately for Westward Bound, his roll couldn't save him from this last dead end! He almost made it!

While Shameless also chose to go right, a stumble or a bump actually led her down the right path, which incidentally is also the right one in the sense that it is the correct path leading out of the cave. She doesn't know it though and this path goes on and on forever, giving nothing away until suddenly there is a shift in the air that smells not of the wet cave but of the Swamp. On and on, the path leads up until suddenly it opens up to the surface and the end of the maze. __________________________________________________________ Melancholies Congrats! Shameless made it to the end of the maze!
