As normal no one understood Abbi but she didn't think anything of it because people rarely did and there was kind of spooky mist monsters attacking them. The girl hardly had time to admire her handiwork on Lex before he was telling her to cover her ears. Never one to do the bare minimum, the teen darted a few steps back, turned her back on the mist while she shouldered her weapon, and hunkered down, hands pressed tight over her ears. Even then she heard the rapid fire and strange noise, somehow more pleasant than the shrieking from earlier. Over quickly, Abbi used her scythe to push herself back up into a normal standing position though it was a more forceful hop thanks to the pole-arm. "They're still here... Huh..." This thing was stronger than Awesome Lex! Yikes! An accusatory finger whirled to point at Jack, a frown splashed across Abbi's face. "I am not yelling 'Paradigm Shift!' every two seconds, so we're just gonna call this... um... Oh! Oh! Guarded Assault, its called Guarded Assault!" With that out of the way, the teen shifted her scythe between her hands, hefting it up into the air as though she were up to bat. She waited until one of the shadow hands reached past Jack to grab at her and swung. HP: 48/50 Damage: 3 BOSS HP: 42 Charge: 3/3

"You sound like Solia. Are you making some sort of video game reference?" Lex questioned Abbi, his face entirely a picture of mass confusion. He'd played the NES and that was about it. "Anyway, good hit."
Lex shot at the fist blur of mist he saw heading towards Jack, catching it off guard and deterring it from the not so jolly green giant. "Your move, Hawthorn."

"She's always saying stuff like that," Jack added, coughing as he waved some of the miasma from his face. Nodding his thanks to Lex for the cover fire, Jack ducked into a small group of the creatures peeling from the ring surrounding them and cut them to pieces.
"Alright, AK, you know the drill."

"YESSS yessss its a gaming reference! Its Final Fantasy 13! And well, the sequel too..." Careful to stay back behind the two men while they worked, Abbi couldn't help a smile. "I know Solia! She's super fab!" Too bad they hadn't gotten more of a chance to hang out. Though now was not the time to think on such things with this mist monster hanging around. Abbi liked to think it was starting to slow down, even a little... "Right Captain Long Legs!" She replied to Jack in a sharp, mockingly militaristic tone, happy to jump between them and stick her blade into the fray. With a careful push she sent the scythe spinning, knocking a few wayward puffs from Lex. HP: 48/50 Damage: Nope Defending Target: Lex Defended For: 5 BOSS HP: 35 Charge: 3/3

Lex was lost at Final Fantasy. Mario, Frogger, Pac-Man. He knew those, and some of the fancier arcade games from Circus Circus' theme park, but that was his limit. His games were blackjack, roulette, hold 'em. "You two seem to be one in the same..." He muttered, moving swiftly from behind Abbi's defense and leaving a nice cut on his cheek. That'd heal quickly.
Lex saw a faceless head appear out of the mist and used the edge of Regal's barrel to crack the miasma skull and kicked it away with a grunt, hunkering down into a crouch after the pistol whip. "Move."

While Lex rolled some heads, Jack tussled with more lurching figures coming up behind them. At least his plan seemed to be working thus far.
"Definitely going for ice cream after this," he muttered as he cut through several of the aggressive ones, leaving Abbi her opening.

A cheer came from Abbi, though she had plenty to say about being just like Solia (they were totally different! How could Lex think they were even close to similar?!), she left it unsaid in favor of shouting more encouragement. At the promise of ice cream she sprang forward and knocked the end of her scythe into the chest of a skeletal figure. It barely grazed her before she hopped back and grinned at the two men. "Ice cream sounds great. Maybe even gelato." Lex added while smashing the butt of his pistol into the arm of something swiping at Jack, eyes set on the thinning mists. They were actually going to make it out of this! He couldn't help but smile, even if they were still under somewhat heavy fire. Baby island, eat your heart out. "I dragged the both of you here; I'll pay."

Abbi was right, though: the mist was starting to thin, the monster within not so numerous. If only they hit a little softer too, damn it. "Just go on the offense now," Jack told them as he sliced the leg off a shambling silhouette. "No point in holding back."

"Paradigm Shift! Cerberus!" Maybe it was because she had been promised ice cream combined with the fact that she really had earned it, but for whatever reason Abbi was suddenly more pumped than before. Given that she was pretty energetic always, this was definitely brought on largely because she was getting to call out these great Paradigms. And maybe she was inwardly patting herself on the back for having remembered so many of them too. With that to encourage her, the girl rushed the remaining mist, swinging her blade hard and cleaving a large hole in the ranks. Not bothering to pull back for another swing she instead stepped forward and butted the crook and flat of the blade against a particularly nasty looking shape and grinned when it shattered into nothing. HP: 39/50 Damage: 11 Defending Target: -- Defended For: - BOSS HP: 3 Charge: 3/3

Full offense, Lex liked it. The mist was thinning, so thin he could see those damned pod housed with their switching and eerie music that stopped playing the second Abbi had encountered the monsters in the veil. So close, so very close...
Something grabbed him from behind and took him to the floor, knocking the pistol from his hands. Lex cursed, scrambling to get back up and search for Regal.

Jack could have done this thing in, but he be playin'.
Literally, there was a skeleton trying to pry the sword from his hands so he got a little busy with that.

Apparently the Cerberus Paradigm was a much better idea than was good for execution as Abbi watched both her teammates get caught up in a last burst of bite from the mists. Unwilling to let them fail when they were so close, and understandably worried for Lex and Jack, the girl rushed the little cloud. This time her swing was from below, accompanied by a cry of "Moon Crescent Swing!". So it wasn't the best, but it was all she could think of on such short notice and it seemed just the thing to help motivate her for a very powerful finishing move. Surprised at both herself and how the mist disappeared Abbi tripped forward and twisted back to blink wide eyes at the space where the thing had been. When there was nothing she laughed and turned to look at the two men. "OVERKILL!" She had to yell it because it wasn't going to flash on the screen for her. Lex stared for a while into nothing, the sky, the trees, the ground. It was over, they'd won - well, Abbi had one. And she was celebrating her triumph quite loudly, he should add. A little too loud, thank you very much. The Lifer turned his gaze to the taller Life hunter and stared at him for a few seconds, giving him a slow nod and flicking his grey orbs to Abbi, then shaking his head and pursing his lips. They wouldn't talk about this, ever.
"Good kill." Lex groaned as he stood, reaching out to ruffle Abbi's hair and give her a bright smile. "Definitely worth a triple scoop of gelato."
Patronizing a** indeed.
