She grinned. "Exactly... And Onions... and peppers...And chunks of tomatoes not just the tomato sauce. Oh! have you ever had alfredo sauce on a pizza?" She grinned. "Now i want pizza..." She licked her bottom lip.
She grinned. "Well i guess there is no one telling you you have to eat just one for the rest of your life..."
"So those were like dinner foods... Whats your favorite snack food? Do you like Chips? Or.. Cookies? Or... Jelly beans?"

Aulus wrinkled his nose. "I haven't, that sounds like it would be a bit rich for me though if it had cheese on it too. Need the sharpness of the tomato as a balance.... Snacks? I usually eat fruit and nuts and things but I like crisps as a treat snack; that's chips to you. Plain salted are the best, and proper kettle chips not ordinary ones. Are you going to share in return or these or what?" It seemed only fair; he wasn't that bothered by the replies, whatever they might be, but he didn't want to be the only one giving away information even if it was trivial.

She frowned. "Well next time i get pizza i will have to let you taste a piece. It really isnt, you ask them to go light on both the sauce and the cheese and if its done right... then the cheese is there just to hold your veggies in place..." She grinned. It really was very good... Especially if it had some balsamic dressing done over the top with a little goat cheese mixed in.
She grinned. "How dignified of you." She laughed and then shook her head. "Oh Sorry! Um... I go for Vanilla when presented with the two... but if Butterscotch is an option thats the one i want. And my favorite snack food..." She smiled. "Graham Crackers with apple butter." She only ever got that when she had ventured down into the kitchens at home... but Now that she lived away from home she had it all the time.
"How about... um... You ask a question..."

"It's not dignified, well not about being dignified," Aulus shook his head, "it's just a health thing. I need to be as fit as possible to do my job right and so I have to eat the right stuff. Not like I never eat crisps, nachos, all that nice stuff but it has to be a treat not a habit.... Mmh, and if you say so. I'll try most food things once, so long as they're not meat of course."
...Wait, apple butter?
"Alright, I have a question." Aulus frowned a bemused frown. "What the ******** is apple butter?"

She grinned. "I like fruit and nuts as much as the next person... And treats are good...In general... " She shrugged her shoulders and then looked to Tortie for a moment.
She looked up and wrinkled her nose. "Thats not the kind of question i meant!" But she smiled any way... "Its um... like... Applesauce... only... cooked much longer... and instead of using water to boil the apples in you use apple cider and its just so good... " She frowned. "Hmm... i could bring some if you want... Its got a lot of natural sugar in it... but no added sugar if you get it from the right place..."
She looked over him... "Ok... Since that didnt count you get to go again... "

"That's nothing like butter. What a stupid name," Aulus muttered, feeling a bit more like himself at least for a moment as he griped about something. It did sound nice though, he'd have to try it sometime. His turn though? He was damned if he knew what inconsequential question to ask her. "Okay, what food do you hate?" It seemed to follow on from what they'd been talking about so it worked, right?

"Well... Its like... butter in that its sticky... but you are very right... its much more like preserves. Oh... and Applesauce." She smiled laughing softly as he muttered.
"What do i hate?" She frowned thinking. "Um... Caviar... Oh that stuff is nasty... Hmm... Pickles... I really cant stand pickles..." She smiled. "Ok... You... What is your least favorites?"
She waited a moment and then she flushed. "Ok.... You dont have to answer... but... When is your birthday?"

"Sprouts," Aulus replied, shifting slightly in an attempt to get more comfortable. He needed to be out of bed, moving, doing.... Hu, and he supposed there was no harm answering her question now that the date had sailed by for the year. "It was the third." It hadn't exactly been the best birthday ever this year but next year... next year if everything went okay he'd have an arm again. If everything went okay. It might not. He shouldn't have started doing independent reading.

No thinking there. She smiled. "Really? Its not like... Bacon... Or fish fry? Or are we just taking those for granted?" She smiled as he told her. "Awesome... Ill mark it on my calendar for next year..."
She kinda half pouted. Well she had missed it then. Too bad. But there was always next year.
"Ok... So... how about... Movies? What movies do you like?"

"I like bacon, I just don't eat it," Aulus replied with a shrug.
Why was she pouting though? Over the birthday? It sounded like it. Mmh, he and Alex never had got to do... whatever it was they had been going to do. Once Alex was up to it they'd have to, even if it was just a movie with pizza or nachos or something. Just something quiet, something calm, a chance to relax and find something to smile about.
"Uh.... Movies? I don't know, lots of stuff." Sci-fi, fantasy, superhero movies, and action or adventure. Nothing where romance was the main plot, and no horror movies. He'd liked them once upon a time but he didn't like being scared for fun anymore. "Just so long as it's not a romcom or another ******** s**t remake."

"Ahhhhh great self discipline young padawan." She smiled. Well, that showed that she liked sci-fi movies.
She grinned. "Romcom?" She thought about it. "Oh! Romantic Comedies?" She flushed just a bit. "Cant agree with you there... There are some really good... what was it... Romcoms... " She liked the classic disaster that leads to happily ever after. But it wasnt all she watched. She really couldnt do Horror. And living through it... was just about enough to scare her for good.
"You want another secret... you know the cartoon how they have like... a ton of movies?"

In Aulus' opinion romcoms were pretty well exclusively white-bread, patriarchal, heteronormative bullshit that tended to glamorize harassing a woman who wasn't interested in you until she magically became interested in you. He didn't say so aloud though because he didn't want Kailee to think he was the sort of person who was bothered by that.
Instead he gave her a perplexed frown. "Which cartoon?"

This was a moment where her mouth had been slower then the thoughts floating through her head. She turned scarlet. "OOps. Scooby-doo.... " She touched her face to try and cool it.
Kailee liked Romantic Comedies for exactly that. It was... It was predictable and it didnt call any of her feelings into play aside from at the end she could smile and be happy for them.
"They have a movie called Scooby-doo on Zombie Island... And it gave me nightmares for about 2 weeks." She looked back to him and smiled. "Sorry about that... sometimes... I just... forget that people cant hear what im thinking."

"Oh." Aulus blinked. "Right... not sure I ever saw that. They make some creepy s**t as kids movies though, like Coraline. That is some A-grade nightmare fuel for a child, glad I didn't see it when I was young." It was one of his favorite movies these days; creepy but not horror, and the stop motion was amazing....
He was being normal enough here, right? Relaxed enough? Talking about normal things? He thought he was.

Yep normal things were safe. "Oh... Right... well.. I didn't like it that was for sure..." She laughed. "Oh yeah... and the Nightmare before Christmas... I checked under my bed every night because of that movie." She smiled. "I really like it now though... And Coraline... It was pretty creepy... Another movie i like though."
"Ok... Last prying nosy question..." She hesitated. She had a lot of questions. But she reminded herself... baby steps.
"Where... um... " She was going to ask where he was from originally but she hesitated. "What.... " She sighed. All those were getting too personal. "I know your real name is Kurt... Hayes said it... Whats your last name?" That was the most innocent of the prying questions. And he already knew her full name... since she didnt do a code name.
