Luke matched Ray's surprise. "What, like, permanently?" This was certainly the first he had heard of it.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 07, 2014 7:40 pm

"Wow..." Ray seemed taken aback by this news, but soon adopted an air of exasperated annoyance. "Yeah he did, The guy went off on his own in the woods a while ago, Dove called me up to try and find him since apparently he had been gone for months without telling anyone. When I tracked him down he just went off on how its not his problem to be here and that he was going home.... Hm- you know in hind sight maybe I shouldn't be surprised that he left without telling any of his friends anything, you don't need to know the man long to see how little respect he has for others."

This was all news to Luke, though he supposed it might have been at least in part his own fault for insisting that Dove never speak to him or Rosie again - though even if he had been involved in the matter of finding Yuri, it wouldn't have changed the fundamental situation that Yuri had left without telling anyone. He got the impression that he shouldn't take it too personally.

"I guess I thought we were better friends than he did," he said with a halfhearted laugh, though he wondered if there wasn't more to the story than it seemed. Finding out seemed an impossibly daunting task; he'd have to take leave from his work, not to mention putting aside his personal life, to go off to Grande Ile and try to track down a single person in the entire country, all on the possibility that at the end of the trail he would discover that it was indeed that simple and that their friendship really had been one-sided. Maybe he was better off not knowing.

Ray's smile grew a little crooked, "Sorry kid, I know you two seemed pretty close, but if I'm honest, I don't think it would have really lasted. Yuri was the kind of guy who seemed pretty fun, but when it came down to it, he was kind of all about himself."
there was a moment of pause as Ray gave a little more thought at to what she was saying before she suggested "And you know, nothing really wrong with wanting to live like that, but it just makes friendship a bit more of a challenge, don't you think?"

Ah well, this wasn't going where she really expected it to, seeing Luke's reaction to the news on a man that he had considered a friend not really being a good friend.
"Hm- Well hey, you sticking around for a bit? I was going to take off work soon if we don't get any clients in, standing around the office all day isn't exactly a great way to spend a day you know."

That just didn't seem accurate to Luke's impression; Yuri had always exhibited a lot of selflessness and patience, he thought, and had never seemed to ask for or expect anything in return. Or maybe he had expected something in return and, upon not receiving it, had decided to cut ties and leave. He had a hard time thinking that the person he knew was actually so callous and self-possessed, but perhaps time had changed him... Ray certainly wasn't spinning her description out of pure imagination, after all.

In the end, the result was the same: Yuri had gone to Grande Ile, and Luke had no means of reaching him. Dwelling on it and mulling over the endless possibilities of what could have changed would achieve nothing. If the opportunity to speak with Yuri arose, he could puzzle out the situation at that time, but until then, he wasn't going to let it weigh him down indefinitely.

The perspective he'd gained through losing sight of himself was so freeing sometimes.

"Oh, yeah, I've got time," he replied with a nod. "It's a bit of a trip coming out here, so it'd be a shame to turn around and head back right away anyway."

"Yeah it is a bit of a trip huh, though I guess its made easier if you've got a flying type huh?" She chuckled "I'll tell you, ever since Impact evolved travel around this island has been so much nicer."

She made motion for him to follow as she made her way back up to the building, tapping on Double Stripes head as she made her way up the steps. "You going to sleep here all day?"

The snake let out a light hiss as he opened one eyes, making a light chattering noise as if responding to her in a mundane confirmation that made the older women laugh, but it wasn't too long before the snake noticed the familiar red haired trainer, opening both of his eyes and lifting his head up off the wooden set with a flick of his tongue to the boy.

He nodded his assertion, "It still takes a while, for sure, but it's nothing like going by foot." He certainly was glad that he had acclimated Leste to flying with a passenger.

He followed at Ray's gesture, pausing in front of the Serperior as she addressed it and waving a greeting in return. "It is summer," he said. "It's as good a time as any to sleep all day, if you've got the time to kill."

Ray had made her way up to the door of the building, pausing to speak to the other guides before she made her way into the building, Leaving Luke and Double Stripe by the stairs.

The Serperior nodded lazily, but continued to lift his head up higher, and coil his long thick body around under him to gain more of a normal height for the pokemon.
Though a roll of his eyes and a glance around at the empty aria might have hinted to Luke that he was more bored, then he was willingly wanting to nap.

The two weren't left for very long before Ray came back out, this time without the gear she usually wore when on the job.
A pare of more baggy pants tucked into warn boots, and a tank top hanging loosely at her shoulders with a much more appropriate feel for the summer heat.
"Wish I could say there is more to do around here." Ray admitted as she rejoined the two, putting a hand on her hip. "Most of the miners are out in them mines around this time, so we've got that working for us, lately they've been kind of unpleasant, so why don't we take advantage of them not causing any trouble huh?"

He smiled sympathetically at the Serperior; he'd had his own share of boredom-induced naps, though those primarily took place in hospital beds for him and often went hand in hand with medication-induced naps.

He gave a nod towards Ray to acknowledge her return and tilted his head in curiosity at what she said. "Why are they being 'unpleasant?' The heat?" He supposed if he were stuck in hot, humid subterranean caverns for the vast majority of the working day he would probably be a bit ornery himself.

"Mm naw," She waved a hand and putting her hands on her hips she trotted down the steps to the dry dirt below.
"They're used to the summer weather around here I think, at east its never been a big issue in the past that I've noticed... and trust me I notice things." She added, squinting an eye at Luke.
"I think a lot of them are still kind of bitter over what happened in the mines up in the mountains, or just uneasy about it, or even just really hush hush about it to."
She shrugged making a gesture to them to follow as she started up the road
"All I really know is that its not as fun around here as it used to be."

He moved to follow, though he raised a brow at what she said. "Still? All that was an awfully long time ago, wasn't it?" He'd still been carrying a cane at the time, so it had been at least half a year ago. "Are there still complications from it or something?" he hazarded.

"depends who you listen to, two of them went missing when I closed them in remember? And they were arrested when we found them with those black marketers. Some miners are saying they were a disgrace, some of them say they were framed, but its the ones who stay quiet who are causing the most unease I think, no one trusts one another anymore."

Well, he supposed that would make sense... He imagined that the officers would quickly become suspicious of one another if one were to be outed as a Rocket. "I guess I can't blame them," he said, "but it seems like it's just going to make the situation worse if they suspect and begrudge one another until the end of time."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 08, 2014 1:06 pm

"Normally it wouldn't" she agreed with him "But I just don't think its as simple as people holding grudges or being suspicious."

"What do you mean?" he said, frowning in consideration.
