As she spun behind him Castor gripped the rock-pick tightly in his hand. They were still a good distance away from him. Why didn't he have any ranged weapons for things like this? Sure he could throw bombs but bombs can only go as far as you can chuck them.

In almost an instant a wall of roots reached up from the ground and knocked back the Mara and kept them from moving forward. One letting out a bit of a screech before it crumbled into nothing.

The Mara slowly but surely were breaking through all of the roots, trying to get to the pair. "As strong as those roots look it doesn't seem like it's going to hold up long. If we can we should take out as many as possible..." How many would be possible though, there were nine Mara, could he truly take on that many at once? Even with help he had some doubts.

She had seen the city! Yes, this was good, this was very good. "Alright, if we run in that direction we might be able to destroy them one at a time, some are bound to be faster than others... if not, well a bomb might be able to take out two... maybe. The explosion's big enough." He said nodding as he verified everything he was saying was right in his head.

He pat her on the shoulder before he turned around and started running a bit through the trees, looking to put as much distance between them and the Mara as possible. He ran his hand over the bomb bag, making sure it was closed for now, he didn't want to lose any during the run. Then his hand went longingly over to the handle of his sword at his hip. He wished he could use it but it would probably be more than ineffective against the Mara. A thin metal blade most likely wouldn't make so much as a dent in the rock that made up their body and definitely not the metal plates adorning their chests.

Prompt
The Army of the Oblivionites is but a day away from meeting the Mara encampment and it's army. The forest creatures in this area have all fled, they do not wish to have anything to do with the bloodthirsty feeling in the air. The Dragons are sitting in hiding, waiting and watching. Perhaps these two irritating forces will weaken or kill each other.. then they can come and mop up!

Draco has his mages acting as more scouts and healers than mages. Their magic can be used to bring down stuff on top of the Mara.... but with their people so close, he's pulling them back and letting his warriors deal with them.

It is the time for the fighters, archers, and barbarians to shine! War, a real army versus army battle is upon you. For the first time in several years it is not raids or small groups fighting; it's armies. Test your skills, practice for the future.. see how well you ca fight in an army. Draco has plans for you, and these Mara make an excellent practice for the real deal: Aevah. He may be forced into this tenuous peace, but he has never forgotten his goddess's orders.

Those who have ranks: you are to be in the fore front of the army, trying to keep control of those under your command as well as listening for orders from your superious while around you things are chaotic.

For tomorrow .. you march.

OOC: You have a few days to get set up and ready before the armies clash!
If you are worried about word counts for the Hunts you've rolled, don't be. Any Rp after you roll those dice counts towards it until you meet the total.

@Drac and Malta: Since you are with Castor and seem to be sticking with him, you may join the Obliv army no ranks though sadly) and help out if you so desire.

Aaaaand another cruddy post for you... I'm sorry

Malta knew her roots were not strong - they had been forced out of the ground to do something they had not been intended to do. The mara that had been destroyed by them - which she hadn't really noticed - was a stroke of good fortune that had more to do with the tree trunk than the roots.

She sent them an apologetic burst of magic, anyway, buying them a bit more time as the roots whipped and tangled around the Mara, though they broke almost as quickly as they entangled.

She nodded: She trusted Castor's judgement. She ran after him. When she used her magic, it was always easier to use her magic right after wards. Well, rather, it leaked out and overflowed with verdance, with only a little bit of her own actual concious will behind it.

Which meant that, in her tracks as they ran, she left vegetation that was stronger and more impeding than it had been. That was good - and she knew it. The overgrowth would buy them some time.

The city was not close, nor was it far away: She could smell an intense profusion of alien smells, things she had only scented a hint of in the occaisional breeze or caravan. It smelled of oozing dark magic and stone and grimness. It smelled of a thousand other things she could not name. It smelled of countless generations Oblivionites and their legacies. It scared her, but - as she heard the crashing of stone hammers through her reinforced underbrush - she knew which terror she feared less...

I'm probably not on the top of my game either, I just got punched in the face a little bit earlier. xD;;; I need to be as descriptive as possible with my kills I think.

Castor dashed forward as fast as his small legs would carry him, turning from time to time to look over at Malta every few moments to make sure that she was close to him still. He couldn't leave her behind, after all he had been doing all of this for her in the first place.

He let go of his grip on his sword, while it's presence was comforting, it was more or less useless in these circumstances. He tightened his grip on his rock-pick once again before tapping on Malta's shoulder. Castor motioned to the right behind a collection of bushes before ducking behind them.

If he was right earlier, one or two of the mara would be ahead of the others, it would stand to reason that some of them would be faster than others or that, if they weren't different, one of them would have started charging before the others.

He spread the bush a bit, trying to get a look through before his suspicions were confirmed. Two of the mara were at the head of the pack, the others while not slow by any means were behind in the forest.

"I think I'm going to see if I can get a drop on those two before we start running again." Castor whispered looking over at Malta. "With any luck they won't see where we went and a few will break off of the pack. If not, we'll get a minute or two to catch our breath." This was going to be hard to keep up if those Mara were behind them in pursuit the entire way back to the city. "I'll bash in the head of one, maybe the second if I'm able, and then leave a bomb behind to maybe do some more damage. Might not be the strongest plan, but I have to work with what I've got." He spoke, still quiet, nodding his head a bit as he reaffirmed his plan in his mind.

You got punched in the face O.O Waaaat?!

And apparently we can kill them and just rp until the word reqs are reached XP

Malta hid - somehow. She was very large, but she could squeeze herself down to the ground and hold her wings against her sides tightly, making herself smaller and harder to see. But, also, she could use her magic to make the bush a bit bigger, too.

She listened to Castor's plan and nodded as he explained. It sounded like a good plan, and he seemed confident that he could do it. She wasn't sure if she had a part in it herself, but then again did she have to? He was her protector, and he was protecting her. She had no place interfering with his duty, as she saw it, any more than she had. She'd only get in the way - the roots, though they had worked and been effective, had been flukes, she was sure.

"I hope it works..." she mewled quietly, nudging him gently with her head, "Be careful?" She did like him, and she wanted him to not get too hurt. He was nice, and nice to her at that, and she didn't want to do anything to ruin that.

But maybe he did want her to do something... it was hard to tell. She hesitated, then decided to ask. "And, um... What do you want me to do?" It would be good to know if she had a part in his plan, even if it was just running and hiding. It was good to know what to do.

That way, she wouldn't be in his way. And, if she wasn't in his way, he'd still be nice. That was how her logic worked, anyway.

Yuuuup, by my brother over some family drama stuff he got angry about.
Yeah xD but doing as much as I can in a post would definitely help.

Castor nodded when she said be careful and responded with a smile, "I don't intend to get hurt. I'll be as careful as I can be." When she asked if he wanted her to do anything he pondered on it for a second before speaking up, "Actually, I think there is something you could possibly do. If the second Mara gets too close can you maybe use one of your roots or a branch and slow him down? Every second counts in a situation like that and your roots have shown to be pretty effective in keeping Mara back. Just be sure to stay a little bit out of sight so they don't go for you." It seemed like a good plan, enough to take out a few Mara. He'd jump the first one and do it in as fast as he could and deal with the second one when it came, hopefully not before the first Mara was destroyed.

Looking through the bush he saw that the first Mara was now only half a minute away. "Alright, it's almost here, get to as safe a place as you can find." He said with a nod as he got into position to jump.

Three... two... one... the Mara started to move next to the bush in front of him, he was lucky it didn't just swing its hammer through the greenery. Scrounging up as much strength as he could muster Castor jumped at the creature, and latched onto the metal plate attached to its shoulder. His fingers stung as he held his grip tightly while the now surprised Mara thrashed around, attempting to knock him off. With one quick stroke of the pick he knocked the helmet off of the top of the Mara's head, the tinny clang sound resounding through the trees. Castor rose his arm up above his head before dinging the sharper pick end into the Mara's. The pick dug deep, sending cracks through most of the top half of the rock formation that made up its head. It stopped thrashing around as it started to move its arms around its head, almost as if it was in a bit of a panic.

It became harder to hold on, his fingers burning now as the random panicked movements of the Mara's arm seemed to try and buck him. He would not relent though, he pulled the pick out slowly, pulling at the rock as much as he could while it exited. There was now a lip pulling apart the head of the creature, and he quickly began to hammer on it with the blunt side of the pick, breaking off a few small chunks before it really took hold. With one last hard swing he pulled off most of the Mara's face before it began to fall apart into rubble.

Castor let go as it dropped and managed to land on his knees, huffing and panting as he tried to catch his breath, the stinging in his left hand not wishing to go away.

They should leave a trap for the mara~!

Malta nodded. "I can do that..." she said. If Khehora could blush properly, she would have - as it was, her earfins pinkened at his comment. Effective? Her roots were effective? He had said it, and she trusted him, so it had to be true.

Confidence, that unaccustomed feeling that she could do something consistently well, felt good as it welled up in her. It was mild, fleeting, and as flimsy as fine gossamer... but it was good.

She hunkered down into the bush - the safest place she could think of - and watched as the seconds before Castor's crouch and his pounce seemed to take forever. For once, though, Malta was not thinking of all the ways his plan could go wrong. She didn't think about how it could go right either. She felt only pure anticipation, the knowledge that something was about to happen in a few seconds, something important, something that she - Malta - had a part in.

Three... two... she thought, her glowing irises tracking the grey stone shape of the mara as it began to move into position. One. she thought, and watched as Castor sprung into action. Her eyes were fixed on the action, but she managed to draw them away.

She had a job to do.

She saw the other mara approaching through the trees, ready to offer aid to its companion.

There it was: her job to do. And now, she had to do it.

She focused on the mara, summoning roots to cage it, wrapping it in roots to restrain it. She sent a pulse of magic to keep the roots growing against its attempts to break free - growth was something she knew she could do.

She twitched her earfins at maran calls echoing through the wood, trying to pinpoint them. It sounded as though a few were closer - and more off the path - than she had thought. Well, Castor was making an awful lot of noise - perhaps they had heard it?

She checked on him in time to see the mara crumble away to rubble and to see him fall to the ground. She moved through the bush - more soundless than before - her magic use was leaking into her steps and quieting her movement - and peeked out, nudging him with her nose. "Are you all right?" she asked, her fins twitching as more mara calls came through the forest.

Not sure how they'll do that with what they have but we can take a whack at it I guess. :3

At the nudge on his back Castor's eyes widened and he gripped his rock pick tightly ready to use it and turn until the voice came from behind him. He let out a sigh, and loosened his grip on its handle. That... that was a little bit scary. "Yeah... yeah... I'm okay. My body's sort of sore... and I'm definitely going to be bruised later from all of this stuff, but it could be a lot worse I'm sure." He said looking back at her over his shoulder with a little nod.

Castor looked over towards the still trapped Mara, it thrashed against the roots but the roots seemed to have it firmly trapped in their grasp. "Nice work on that... you did a really good job keeping it stuck." He said with a little smile as he climbed up to his feet and dusted his body off. Pacing over to the Mara he swung the pick around in his hand a little bit, trying to fight some of the soreness from taking hold by keeping his body in motion. "All I have to do now is bash the head a little bit and it won't be bothering us in the future." He said, followed by a sigh of relief. This was going to be a lot less work than the others had been.

Stepping up on one of the roots, he was a little below its eye level. It snarled and screeched and grunted a few words he didn't understand as he rose the pick up above his head and brought it down. It only took two swings before the glow faded from the creature and it stopped moving, crumbling into a pile of rocks in the middle of a collection of propped up roots.

"Let's see..." After he dropped down from the root he looked around, he didn't see any Mara but they were definitely around, he could hear their sounds throughout the forest. And he head the beginnings of a loud commotion in the direction they were heading. "Is there any way you can like... attach a root to one of my bombs? We could call the Mara in this direction towards it, and with a delayed explosion from the fire off of the root we could... maybe destroy a few of them? If we're lucky we'll get two or three." He said piecing together a plan in his mind. "Does that make sense?"

If Malta had known how close she had come to getting a mining pick in her neck, she would have run in frantic terror into the woods.

Fortunately, she didn't. Instead, she could, indeed, see for herself that Castor was all right and could hear that he had praised her - those few kind words that she was quickly becoming addicted to.

"Thank you!" she said, giving a little 'murr!' of pleasure, watching him destroy the creature. It struck her how violent the whole thing was - crushing heads and all - and yet how completely okay she was with the whole thing. She didn't feel sorry for the mara...

Then again...

She didn't feel sorry for dragons either.

She told the roots to recede back into the ground, letting them slither down into the ground and back to their rest - where they were supposed to be - leaving the rubble scattered and bereft in the path.

She nosed at him as they receded, checking with a brief flicker of magic to make sure Castor's injuries were just bruises. They were - and not bad bruises at that.

Satisfied, she drew back, blinking. "A root? To a bomb?" her earfins drooped in a khehora frown. "You're going to set the root on fire?!" the thought horrified her, and she cringed back into an unhappy stoop. She could hear the mara coming closer now, and knew that they were dangerous and needed to be crushed, blown up, whatever.

But setting something on fire? Something she had grown? It just felt wrong. Yet, his plan sounded good - it sounded very good - and she trusted him. Reluctantly, she summoned a root from the ground, making it high and long - a vine would have been preferable, but they burned really fast. She let it loop around itself for a bit before, with a snap of her jaws, she cut it off, feeling thoroughly horrible. She offered the length of root, with its thin, tieable end, to Castor.

"Here..." she said, a little sadly, jerking slightly as a mara called from very close by.

"You're welcome~" He gave her a little bit of smile. "Those roots of yours have been really effective, if it wasn't for them I'm not sure what we'd be dealing with right now. Maybe all ten of those things at once..." He shuddered at the thought of having to take on ten in his condition. Castor still had some energy in him, but he wasn't sure if he had enough to handle another group of ten before they got back and the sounds in the distance that didn't seem to just be the Mara were ominous by themselves, shouting and the sounds of people. Hopefully that meant they were close at least sort of close to the city.

"Yeah... we don't have much of an option. I don't have any long fused bombs, I wasn't expecting to need them. Next time I bring them along when I go out I should have more of a variety." He said as he watched her grow a root. She seemed, upset? That didn't really register for him, plants were plants, they seemed such an alien and different sort of life-form to him that he didn't really even consider that they might be hurt in some fashion by snapping a root.

He took the root from her hand giving her sort of a wry smile, it was obvious she wasn't very happy about his plan and he didn't understand why. Castor tied the thin end very carefully to the white fuse before setting it on the ground. He walked over to the crumbled Mara remains and got a few large pieces from it and spread them around the bomb in a little circle. "Maybe they won't see it as easily..." he murmured as he made sure they were just right and about the right height.

"Now... we need to make as much noise as possible." Castor said looking over at Malta as he pulled out the little metal lighter from his left pocket. "We need to see if we can draw them towards the bomb, and when they start getting close or if the fuse gets too short we make a run for it immediately." His statement was punctuated by the cries of Mara and the clicking sound the lighter made when he opened it. "So be ready to run, just not too soon or they'll run past the bomb after us. Okay?" After a second the end of the root was lit and Castor stood up. "ALRIGHT YOU ROCK MEN, COME AND GET US!" He shouted out into the forest, hoping this plan might actually do some good.

Prompt

The Armies have crashed: scouts on both sides started the conflict, attacking the other scouts with violence in their hearts. The sounds of battle summoned the bulk of the Mara and Oblivionite Armies.

Magic is used by the Oblivionites mostly to distract since the Mara are highly resistant to Dark magic, though they have realized that Blood magic is still effective!

Draco leads his army not from the back, but from the front. He is a warrior lord: and these are but puny Mara, he needs not worry about falling! His generals are the ones who make sure that thins go the way their Lord demands; this is a test for them.

The battle is joined: the result? To come. All those wish to join in the army fight: roll how ever many dice for Mara. You only need 100 words per for this prompt. (You gain 1 Hunt Req per 300 words though.. that's still the same.)

If you are not in the battle, you still need 300 words.

Ranks: (I'm just doing Sarg cause... Sarg is the only one here! XD )
Sergeant: Your Captain orders you to join the fray; you must face some sort of danger to your people that you must solve or.... not solve as it were. Perhaps you get surrounded, perhaps you find yourself charging up to break the line of Mara, or maybe you are the only unit holding back a unit of Mara from breaking the Obliv line. If you need help thinking up something, ask me! I will give you an actual prompt.

You may also find Draco fighting along side you!

If you show particular bravery, intelligence, flashes of leadership etc.. .there will be a reward!

OOC: I am aware that some of you do not wish to join the army. That's fine! Just realize it's happening, and that all the good, bad, and ugly results of Battle is happening and include it somewhere in your response like a thought or worry or something.

Orpheus Solon
Here you go! She can heal (Ysali! Whoo!) though not too much and can use her powers to bring up small vines to slow down the Mara.

Skorga was out wandering the tree tops and lurking to try and figure out what was going on. It irked her, her parents had told them to just stay inside and hide... Why should she hide there when she could hide in the forest and at least see what was going on!

Maybe, she thought as she watched the metal and rock things moving below, this was not that good an idea. The forest was swarming with the things, and the Oblivionites. Watching the silent statues floating she gave a silent growl and silently slithered through the canopy to the other trees. These things didn't speak! How was she to learn their secrets if they didn't speak?
Time to find an Oblivionite! Which, she grinned as she heard what she was looking for. Should be easy! They were fighting, so head towards the sounds of fighting!

After the many battles that he and his men had gone through to keep the Mara away from the city, wanting nothing more then to keep everyone there that couldn't fight safe from the toy soldiers he found himself approached by an Oblivionite that he knew wasn't a part of his group. In fact it would appear as though this particular person, a messenger, was here to summon Merikh's unit away from these mild skirmishes and to war. A true, out and out, army against army war, it was something that Merikh couldn't help but to be excited over. This was his chance, no, their chance. His men had fought well, they had killed many Mara, but these little battles would be nothing compared to what they were going to be facing soon enough. He took stock of everyone, made sure that those who were injured were given a session with the healers in the party, before they were on their way to where the message said that they were to meet up with the rest of the army. Perhaps this would be where they wiped the Mara off of Soudul for good he thought to himself as his men fell into their ranks, with him and Yolana in the lead, and they were soon marching for where the rest of the army was gathering.

"This should interesting, don't you think, Yoyo? A chance to get in a real battle." Not only would it be his unit out there fight the Mara but there were likely to be many others as well, a vast array of powerful Oblivionites all battling toward the same goal, that being wiping out that wench's little dolls so that they could get back to the real war at hand. Sure, this one had been interesting and he had collected a good amount of Mara heads that he would be turning over to Lord Draco and the Dark Lady Soudana as tribute, but he felt that he would be getting that many more of them soon enough, "This is going to be great." He couldn't help but to grin, his tail lashing behind him, making him look a bit like a fekarat that was about to pounce upon an unsuspecting boken. This was going to be grand! He'd kill many Mara, collect their heads, and he would make sure that he made his grandfather proud. The man had gone out of his way to get Merikh the group of soldiers that he had, finagling him more power then one his age would get, and he wouldn't let the man's gift to him go to waste. He was going to fight hard and make sure the Mara were dealt with!

Turning to look from one side to the other, seeing that the twins, as well as Igone, were not all that far behind him, "We are going to use similar tactics to what we did in our earlier skirmishes, they have worked well for us thus far so why change what isn't broken? The only thing that we have to be careful of, Igone, is that there will be a lot of others fighting as well. It's up to your unit to be spot on with their aim. We don't want to hit any of our own." He told the archer.

"We will do our best." The man said before turning to relay the order back to his unit, telling them be at the ready. There was no telling when the Mara might show themselves be it now or when they got to the battlefield. Given that they had the ranged weapons it was best that they were ready for anything since they would be the ones that were able to respond first.

With the ranged taken care of he then spoke to the twins, "Lory, Valio, it's up to the two of you to give the Mara a good, solid beating. The more of them you are able to give a good hammer smash to the more that will be easy for the others around us to shatter." He told them, finding it a whole lot easier to take down a Mara or any variety if one of the twins bashed them with a hammer first. The way that the hammers were able to leave behind spider webs of cracks along the surface of the Mara, it really was something amazing. It made him almost, but not quite, wish he'd gotten himself such a useful bashing weapon. No matter though, he didn't need a sword so long as he had the twins at his side.

The pair of them saluted before hefting their massive hammers up to rest them on their shoulders, looking as though they were just as eager to get into the battle against the Mara. All of them present, not just Merikh, were here to fight them Mara, looking forward to it in fact, and the twins were as quick as Igone was to tell those following them what the plan was. Those with hammers would weaken the Mara while those with other sorts of melee weapons would finish them off. Between the arrows and magic raining down upon the Mara and the hammers smashing into them they were sure to be well tenderized before those like Merikh, Yolana, and the others in the ground with similar weapons were able to take a stab at them. It was going to be quite the display of skill that went into the plan that Merikh was coming up with, something that would leave many broken up Mara in their wake.

"Looks like we have arrived. Let's hurry." Merikh said, rushing over toward the Captain that he was told to meet with who was standing right where the messenger said that he'd be. The man's orders were quick and simple enough, Merikh and his unit was to join the fray and take down the Mara. He liked that, the simple orders, it would allow him to lead his men in the manner that he preferred without really having to change up anything that they had already planned out. After saluting his Captain he hurried back over to his men, drawing his sword as he dd so, "Let's go, it's time to join the fray it would seem. Get ready, Igone, all of you are up first." He said, starting the march forward while those in the group who were range notched arrows and prepared their spells, a rain of death was incoming. It took a little extra preparation, the group of them needing to do a quick scan of the battlefield to see where the other units of Oblivionites were located. They weren't worried though, given the way things were set up so long as they aimed deeper into the ranks of the gathered Mara it should be easily enough to hit targets that were far from those that they were allied with.

She followed the small group that she'd found in the woods into the main army(much fun was had slinking from shadow to shadow) and then followed them out. Her grasp of their language was okay... though she didn't hear much of use. Why was this battle getting fought? What were those rock and metal things? Why were they here? She did not like being ignorant nor not knowing all of the situation at all!

As the small group left the main army behind, she slunk up behind one of the trailing ones, one of the ones that didn't smell of magic or have a large hammer in their hands and poked him in the back with a claw.

Her bright green eyes looked up at he whirled around. "Why dis happen?" She growled in her soft hissing voice. She could speak small sentences, though she understood more than she could speak. Pity these squishy ones don't speak out tongue, easier if they did, she thought.
