As she opened the door to the roof, she smiled a bit, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the cool air swirl around her. Arturia hadn't noticed, but as she opened the door, there was another student trying to leave the rooftop and ended up bumping into the student. She accidentally knocked the book out of the student's hand and bent down to retrieve it. Once she stood up, she finally noticed the student was a boy and handed him back his book, "Excuse me, sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings. I'm Arturia Ayumi, senior. And you are? Arturia noticed the boy had fairly light hair and an air of not wanting to be approached, as though he was involved with far more important things than conversing with anyone. She wouldn't have normally conversed so much with this boy but she was bored at the moment and decided it would't be so bad to talk with another student. They were alone on the rooftop anyways so there wouldn't be anyone else to bother them.

Hikaru was calmly reading when suddenly, some force knocked his book out of his hands. He didn't bother to look up to see who did it at first, he simply went to reach for his book but another pair of hands grabbed it before him. He finally looked up to see a girl apologizing for what just happened. Hikaru smiled warmly, even though he felt nothing inside. He always smiled when he didn't know how else to react. "Oh don't worry about it. The book is perfectly fine, no harm done. I'm Hikaru Kimura, nice to meet you".

However, she sensed something when the student smiled back at her, causing her interest to be sparked. Normally nothing sparked her interest but for some reason this student did. Hm, wonder why this student seems as interesting as he do. Maybe it's his demeanor..typically people at this school react..differently. Arturia pushed the thought aside for the time being and smiled back before replying, "Nice to meet you. Hikaru. I'm glad to hear there's no damage to your book. If you don't mind my asking, what book is that?"

Hikaru looked down at the boy handed back to him. He dusted off some dirt that got on it while the girl talked, the whole time he kept his warm smile on his face. "Oh, do you like reading?" Hikaru asked when the girl showed sudden interest in his book. He stood up to be more at her level and showed her the book cover. "It's simply called Scientific Theories and Laws. I find the theories to be more interesting to read about since theories can't fully be proven to be true. It gives you more to think about. Reading about the laws are also interest but it's not exactly something you need to think about, laws are simply things you must accept in science." Hikaru found it to be a good exercise for his brain, reading theories and thinking of ways to either prove them right or wrong.

Scientific Theories and Laws huh? Interesting. Though he does seem like a braniac...his demeanor and everything, it all makes sense. Seems like an interesting figure to stick around. Arturia wasn't expecting Hikaru to be walking around and reading a book about scientifc theories. She herself was able to easily read and understand these type of books, going through them like a regular reading book. Though reading these books made her yawn and she often grew quite bored. Arturia wondered if Hikaru ever got bored, just bored of anything and everything. "Ah, wow. I didn't expect a student at this school to be reading such a book so..I guess you could say casually. Of course there's nothing wrong with that, just quite different than the rest of this school if you know what I mean. Theories huh...yes, theories are more interesting since you're able to think continually about the different paths or things involved with a theory and what not." Arturia turned her head to the side slightly upwards. She felt a nice cool breeze pass by and heard a faint but distinct voice. The voice reminded her of her childhood in the daunting mansion hallways, always alone and bored. She felt herself slipping into her past and shook her head, blinked her eyes and was brought back to reality. Everything had seemed so dull, as though life was painted in black and white. But upon enrolling in Kuoh Academy, life was painted with color. Arturia was suddenly curious and asked Hikaru, "Do you ever get...bored of everything? As though there's nothing left in the world to spark your interest?"

Hikaru smilpy stood their silently and continued to smile as the girl gave her views about his book. He had met others interested in science like him that shared similiar thoughts to him, but Hikaru knew that no one could think exactly like him and see the world in the way that he does.
Suddenly, Hikaru felt a hint of emotion, shock. Arturia's sudden question about the world caught him off guard. He didn't think anyone would say those words out loud to him because they were things he thought and very few people seemed to share his thoughts.
Hikaru went silent for a minute and looked down at his book. His warm smile which was false faded and his emotionless expression took over. He looked up at Arturia with eyes that suddenly looked a lot deeper and filled with mystery. "Yes. That's why I like theories, because I find that I can come up with new thoughts about them. Everything else is in black and white and it's so boring. Facts are important to know but once you know them there is no more use looking into them. Even some people are utterly boring. many reactions are so predictable but once in a while I'll see a reaction that seems odd to have and become interested in it. This school seems to offer a more eclectic group of students than other school so I am hoping that I won't be as bored and annoyed with the people here as I am with everyone else in the world." Hikaru's nice guy act was down and his true emotionless self arose. Hikaru wasn't completely unfeeling he was just numb to most things, if he was completely unfeeling he wouldn't really care about the world or the people in it.

His demeanor remained the same but something changed as he began to answer her. She first noticed that his smile began to fade and a different side of Hikaru was revealed. One could say she was a bit shocked by how emotionless he seemed as he answered but at the same time there was something that had already foretold her about Hikaru. He's definitely different than the rest of the students..his way of thinking is intriguing. Arturia listened to Hikaru's thoughts on her question and nodded her head every so often in response to some of the things he said. When he mentioned things being black and white, Arturia smiled a bit, agreeing fully with what he said. Before she answered Hikaru, she noticed his had changed. They didn't seem as bored and lifeless as earlier, they reflected a sense of mystery and the curiosity that came with it. "I fully agree with you on things being in black in white, with nothing of interest--so far that is. Everything you've said is probably very similar to what I've thought of at one time. And yes, this school does seem to be quite..interesting. It provides entertainment, nothing like we've seen before, that is, assuming you and I think similarly on this matter." Arturia had had a hunch when she first met Hikaru, assuming he seemed to be friendly, but really he was like her in a way: uninterested in the world. She had looked at everything through different lenses with a excitement and lifeless-like eyes. Every day she had stared into the sky or space, wondering what else was left in the world. But Kuoh Academy offered a cure for the disinterest in the world. "I think coming to Kuoh Academy was a matter of fate, waiting till the right time to discover what is really in store for us, for our future."

Hikaru nodded when she said that she assumed that he agreed with her to show that Arturia was indeed right. Hikaru didn't expect this girl to be anything like him, for once he was wrong. Hikaru took a mental note that maybe he should stop assuming that all people thought the same and were all boring.
When Arturia started talking about fate Hikaru sighed, this is where they differed. "I have to disagree with that, I simply do not believe in fate. Having a fate means having a set destiny, if that were true then people wouldn't have to work hard to accomplish anything. No one would have to study if it was their destiny to get an A right? So fate just seems unrealistic to me."

Even as a child, at the mere age of 9 she had come up with a couple of theories about fate. Yes there is fate but there is also fate, is what she would say to many, leaving them thoroughly confused. She never felt it was worth her time to explain to someone what she meant. But with Hikaru all she did was smirk a bit, preparing to give him her theory on fate. "You have a point there but what is it that first leads us to be motivated to work hard to accomplish something? It can't be just a matter of coincidence that we stumble upon something that we fall in love with and wish to master. Yes people change their minds in what they really want but something has to be already set for us, a place where we begin our journey of hard work to get to the end point, don't you agree?" Arturia let that bit of her theory sit. It had been a long time since she was prepared to explain her theory about fate to someone and this, oh it was as exciting as it was for a child to go to an amusement park. "I have a theory about fate. I came up with this when I was about 9 years old, due to the many years of boredom and sitting around. There's fate and there's also fate. What do I mean? Well for one, fate is the reason why we are doing something that is so important in our lives. It's not destiny, there's no such thing as destiny in my opinion. Destiny is something set where there are certain things you accomplish because you're supposed to. In others word, it's something set in stone. Obviously people change their minds many times so there's no way their journey can be set in store, nor their final destination or goal. Fate on the other hand is what I believe to be the reason for everything: Why we began a difficult journey and why we finished the journey. Of course hard work can not be forgotten. That is our part in finalizing our fate, hard work. If we don't try our best and work hard, we'll never make the journey to the end. We'll have begun something only to leave it unfinished. That is merely only one of the theories I have about fate. Though I feel right now is not the right time for me to share with you my other theory. Hikaru studied Arturia as she spoke. She seemed fairly confident in what she was saying, but he couldn't help but to get the feeling that she was doing this to test him. Something about the way she looked at him seemed to show interest to him although Hikaru didn't think there was much about him to find very interesting, only the amount of knowledge he knew was interesting to him.
After she explained her theory he went on with his. "I suppose you are right in some aspects, it was wrong of me to use the term destiny and fate together although they are tied together. Both are believed to occur due to circumstances or a power that we can not control however I believe every decision we makes changes are future. Some say that the decisions we make impact our fate but that is a false statement since fate is something that is out of human control. Fate other than being the unexplained reason on why we do things is also said to be the development of events beyond our control which in turn these events give us reasons why we do things, but since events in our lives can be controlled either by our choices or by the choices of those around us that means that the reasons why we do things also come from ourselves or we have reasons inspired by the reasons of others. There is no untold source that gives us reasons. We come up with our own reasons to do things based on our life experiences which only we can control."
Hikaru hasn't had to argue his views since debate team in middle school, he didn't continue i in high school because he wanted to focus more on his main school work, although he already had perfect A's. He just did whatever his parents thought were best and they were always telling him not to let petty things life after school activities cloud his mind.

She was impressed with the response Hikaru gave her and had to admit she was a bit stumped but she may have come across something similar to this when she was younger. "I see. You really have impressed me, I haven't had a debate like this in nearly 10 years." Arturia turned her head to stare at the city in the distance while changing positions. With one arm folded across her stomach to support her other arm, she held her right index finger parallel to her mouth, from her middle knuckle to her knuckle. Arturia turned her head back to Hikaru, looking at his book and closed her eyes for a second saying a few things under her breath here and there. Fate being linked to events that lead to our decisions..very valid indeed but that all is all said to be or factual. However, it is true that we are unable to control the events that occur...but..in a different theory... With that, Arturia opened her eyes and smiled. "It is true that we are unable to control the events that lead to our decisions. There are factors to consider when making a decision, such as time and other variables. But are those actually, and listen to what I mean carefully, are they really determined by people themselves? Some can argue yes and some argue no. My standpoint is no. No human has the knowledge to actually determine the variables that will influence their decision making. Instead humans interpret the signs. It may sound like this is some symbol reading or religious finatic talk but I'm being completely serious; I'm not mixing in symbol reading or religion. This is all based on pure thought."Arturia narrowed her eyes as she stared at the ground thinking of how to continue. She wasn't stumped on continuing her counter, she was figuring out the correct words to use since Hikaru was so literal with each fact and everything. She didn't mind this at all, she loved the challenge. Yes that is true but like I said previously, we only interpret what has been set around us. Hikaru adjusted his glasses a bit, something he did while thinking at times. He carefully listened to each sentence, coming up with a counter idea for as many of her statements as possible. "Actually I'm saying that the events that lead to our desicions are controlled they just don't always have to be controlled by us. For example a man gets shot in the leg, he could have been an average man who gas done nothing wring but for some reason a stranger has decided to impact his future by shooting him. Even though this was not caused by the man himself it was in fact caused by a known source. Everything that occurs in our lives happens due to us or other people around us not by some untold, mysterious force. As for variables that we can't control it is true that time is one by we can decide what to do with out time that impacts the future."
Hikaru questioned her last statement about this not being about religion but about thought. "If this unknown force is not religious then what is it exactly? You purely believe that this unknown source is an unknown source and nothing more? I find it irratible how people search for something not there is give it the title of god, but that is another descusion for another time. I have to say that it seems that you have started to lose sight of what this overall descusion is about." By Arturia saying that this wasn't about religion the descusion has automatically turned into one about religion.

So he is one of those. Great...these type of people never stop to ponder nad think whether something can just be without being based on facts. She sighed a bit and continued her argument. "Yes, what you are saying is true. However my thoughts becoming something to do with religion? Nonsense, I'm not religious one bit. I'm not saying everything begins from the one source being the King who created everything, no. I don't believe in that crap. I do believe there is a higher being but I'm not linking my own thoughts to religious fanatics and their beliefs. My childhood was filled with all of that, that is why I despise it so much and do not believe in it." The last sentence that came out of her mouth was one filled with annoyance. She had practically hissed those words and hadn't realized she had no reason to become so angry with Hikaru, she barely knew the kid. She shook her head and apologized. "Forgive me...the reaction that came with that last sentence was unnecessary. And to counter you, no, I haven't lost sight of this discussion. I've just gone beyond facts and whatnot. Facts can only take you so far until you honestly have to push forward with your own instincts. I suppose I did say everything in too much length..I'll give you the basics to my theory regarding fate." Arturia had walked over to her bag and pulled out a piece of paper and her pen. She also pulled out her notebook to write on top of. She took a few minutes to write her theory, listing it out in a flow chart form, reading:

Mind you, I look at everything beyond facts, I go deep beyond and under to the crap people think is religious and whatnot when it is not.
I will tell you again, I am no where near being a religious fanatic, and I never will be.
Religion is filled with blindness in my own opinion.
1. The reason for everything (possibly, considering you go by facts all the way and I do not)
Fate placed us on a path to begin a journey ▸ ▹ We must work hard to fulfill our journey ▸ ▹ We successfully fulfill our journey --specifics:
-variables: Interpreted by humans, not determined. These interpretations influence our decisions.
-control: Something humans claim to have when they interpret the signs placed around us (variables). Also, our own decision making, what leads us on to the next step etc. Control is difficult to retain since we do not have a definite meaning to all variables or are able to fully grasp and understand variables. (In my opinion, there are two kinds of control...)
-"unknown" source: It is known and unknown. Known as in the details regarding events that occur, but unknown as to why certain things occurred. (I'm sure you've read articles, facts, and whatnot where something occurs yet no one is ever able to find the source and reason as to why it all happened.) Facts can only take us so far until we have to continue on without the facts and with our instincts and intuitions.
My thoughts are scrambled slightly, forgive the disorganization as I am unable to think properly..
Arturia handed the paper to Hikaru and walked back to her bag to pack her items up.

Hikaru raised a brow finding her sudden hissing was odd but he didn't question her change in tone. When she apologized Hikaru couldn't help but question it. He didn't really get emotional changes, why did she suddenly become angry and then regret it? Obviously it had to do with something in her past, he could tell by her last sentence.
"Why do you apologize for your own feelings? If you're mad then be mad, although I can't understand why you are mad, however it is not my place to question you about such things." Hikaru could understand her apologizing if this was a formal thing, like of this was a debate on a stage or if they were at a fancy event, but right now they were just two people on a roof top. If she wanted to be mad then she could be.
When handed the paper Hikaru looked at it and read through it quickly, she basically wrote down everything she said in a summary. Hikaru had no idea if this was an insult to him or not, did she think that he was so stupid that she needed to write it out for him? Or did she simply find it easier to convey her thoughts in writing.
"I see..." Hikaru simply replied before looking up from the paper. "I am not sure what you wish for me to do with this? Has this debate moved on from being oral to written?" Hikaru really was socially awkward since he has rarely ever spoken to people his age so he often questioned various actions and things said in normal conversations. "Your points seem rather vague and I still refuse to believe in fate. First off you aren't very specific on what variables you are talking about so I can't really form a detailed retort on it. Secondly humans do control most situations that the are in. Situations that aren't controlled by humans like tornadoes are caused by nature, it is not a mystery source. Lastly I too believe in the unknown but I don't believe that the unknown is the unknown. Facts are facts, if one knows them are not doesn't change the fact that a fact is true. The unknown is something, humans have just simply not discovered it yet but one day will with the right advancements in science and technology."

She shook her head at herself for letting her past creep into her present life and effect her like that. Hikaru hadn't even done anything to her yet she lashed out at him for something that seemed stupid. She heard him ask why she was apologizing for her own feelings and why she was mad, suddenly sighing. Arturia was beginning to think Hikaru shut himself in and isolated himself, though she did the same thing. "I apologized not for my own feelings. I apologized for lashing out at you for something irrelevant and not related at all in the conversation I had. It...well certain things that were spoken of brought me back to my childhood, a time that was dark for me and rather frightening...the reason why I was suddenly infuriated was because of those thoughts and someone mistaking me for being a religious fanatic..." She had trailed off and stared across the school field, noticing small figures run back and forth. It was calming for her to be up on the roof and conversing with another student. She was glad she had gotten away from her family. She returned her attention to Hikaru and figured he would be question the piece of paper, since it was rather useless. "Sometimes I write things out rather vague and sometimes it is easier to directly get my thoughts into words. The paper is pretty much useless. The ideas are vague and still not in accordance with your own beliefs so we'll leave it at that. I'm not giving up or anything, I've just finished with my end of the debate. I do agree with you on a lot of the things you said though, they're all true."Arturia was beginning to get bored and figured Hikaru wasn't going to meet a friend or anyone.
