"Probably," he agreed, stabbing the branch through his creation to make a sort of seaweed mop. "But you never know." He took the contraption in his mouth and used it to first poke at the shiny, and then to dust the dirt off of it and reveal what lay beneath.

Mal groaned as the shape slowly emerged from the sand at the water's bottom. "That...does not look like the treasure you usually pick up..."

Once he had completely unburied the thing, he dropped the branch and grinned. "This... is... awesome!" he gasped, scooping up the fallen sword, with the handle in his mouth.

"Woah, woah - slow down little brother," Mal said swimming a few paces out to keep from the sword's reach. "If you're not careful, you're bound to poke someone's eye out with that thing. Maybe just this once it would be better to let that lie where we found it..."

Zo gave his brother in horror at the suggestion. "Are you kidding?" he demanded, the words muffled by the hilt in his mouth, he spat the thing out and repeated the sentiment, adding, "This is one of the most awesome things ever!"

"Awesome for what exactly?" Mal enunciated his words slowly hoping for once his little brother would get the point. And no....that was not a pun. Last thing he needed was for Zo to somehow run himself through with that blade. He was quite content with having one half witted brother was opposed to two half witted half brothers or whatever he'd have to call the mangled mess that would be left after Zo was done planing with that sword. It was almost enough to make him wonder if their family had any starfish like regeneration abilities. Those sure would come in handy from time to time...

"For everything!" Zo said with a wide grin. The sword dropped and he scrambled to catch it. careful to keep his teeth tight on the handle, he said around it, "Think of the traps! The tricks! The threats!" No, he really didn't have any idea what he could or would do with it, but he wanted it.

"...the blood in the water, the sharks, a nice prolonged feeding frenzy," Mal continued finishing up his own list. "Zo, I mean it this time. You really ought to live and let live and let sleeping swords lie. Besides," he added, "You use this here sword in a trap and there's a chance, however small," he added noting his brother's bubbling protest, "that some other mer might just chance upon it, Not get run clean through by your little contraption, and then make off with the bugger. How would you feel then?" he sincerely hoped that his brother would listen to him just this once. He really didn't need Zo to have access to actual weapons....some days their sharp fins were a little much for him, not that he'd ever admit it or that Mal would ever point it out to him. They did have something of a family based respect for each other, after all.

Zo pouted as his brother lectured him. Mal had a point, of course. He always had a point. Zo didn't like the idea of some other mer taking off with his shinies. The sharks and feeding frenzies didn't bother him so much, but the loss of a shiny... "What if I just display it with the rest of my collection?"

Mal sighed feeling himself start to give. "Well...you got a place you can put it - Far away from the bulk of your collection. I've seen you dive bomb that pile and roll around in it and I just don't think it would be wise for you to keep that mighty pointy thing so close that you'll skewer yourself with it..." As much as he didn't want this thing around with his brother, Mal also had concerns with just leaving it here for any old soul to come across. The best option would have been for the thing to have never been found but they were a might too late for all that now.

Zo grinned brightly at his brother, knowing he was getting his way. "I have just the place!" he declared, though he wasn't really sure. He'd find a good place to display the new pride of his collection when they got home. He was sure of it!
