Oliver rubbed at his eyes again. "I-I'm n-not crying..." came his quiet reply, but he didn't sound very convincing at all. It would take more than simple reassurances to lighten his heavy heart, but at least Lex was able to remind him to make an effort to look okay. It was a mantra he had grown up with. He would be okay, there was no other choice.

I-I'm okay," the kid said, giving his watery eyes one more rub with the sleeve of his jacket. "I should probably go back to my room..."

"If it'll make you feel better, then you should." Lex agreed, standing from his stool and folding his coat over his left arm, holding it close to his body. "Get some rest, Dr. Lex's orders. And stop feeling sorry for yourself, Oliver. You're better than that."

Clearing his throat, Lex walked off from the infirmary. Oliver was a good kid, a smart kid. He'd grow into himself eventually.
