Carefully, she had threaded over the sea of oranges. Her legs were able to find their own way to place their hooves between the little spaces the fruits could not cover. Almost like those legs had eyes as they let the zikwa walk around with ease without tripping over anything. Not even once did she had to fall over and onto oranges to get back up on her feet again.

Bedtime Story had begun to roll another orange to the clearing but had used too much force as her hoof had pressed hard down onto the fruit and it sunk in. Juices clung onto her hoof and made its way up to her skin as the orange became smushed.

"Oh.. Oops.." She looked down and put her face close to the fruit to see what had happened. The orange broke and she flung her hoof hard, sending the orange flying in midair for a while before plummeting down between the sea of never-ending oranges in the grove.

She attempted to clean her juice soaked leg but stopped halfway through cleaning. Her sensitive nose picked up the familiar scent again. This time it was closer than with her first whiff while she came into the grove.

"Night..? Is that you?" she called out as the outline fits the buck's silhouette. Then again, most meti bucks could fit that shape too. And she squinted hard studying the patterns of heat coming off of the figure.

While Night continued to help Lost collect oranges, he noticed the Zikwa doe having a slow go at gathering the fruit. A few of the oranges that he retrieved found their way into Story's small group of fruit. In passing, Night said hello and encouraged her efforts in harvesting oranges that she could barely see.

She shook her hoof around in a hurry hoping that the juice will get flung off. Her eyes kept staring into the direction of the figure before her. It was him. He had said something to her but she couldn't quite catch what he had said. The strong smell of ripened oranges kept interfering with her from being able to smell the buck's scent.

"Yes, It's Night, Story," said the buck. "You seem to have the same problem as my new friend. She seemed to have a problem too with stepping on as many oranges as she collected."

Looks like this judgemental zikwa might try to approach and befriend the buck after all 8D is he scared of going underground???

Yes, that soquili is one of my favourites. I am not sure what horns they are. I think deer antlers? I didn't sleep much during their re-opening event trying to win something from it. XD

Suddenly it all made sense to her. "Your new friend.. I may have caught faint scent of hers when I came out here to be greeted by a strong smell of oranges.." Already forgotten about the doe, she focused her attention to Night and then back at the oranges around her.

"I am not really used to gathering round fruits.. Where I reside, there are mostly fungi and other odd plants.." She wasn't sure if she wanted to tell him that she lived under the ground.

"True, it's not easy gathering something that tends to roll away when you let it go," said Night.

Story's usual earthy smell made sense to Night when she mentioned that fungus grows where she resides. "You must live in a dark area of the swamp then. I've heard of unusual plants that grow in places that the sunlight can't reach."

Moving in a sense that it was a challenge for her to keep a good watch on an orange without slowing down and staring at it closely. Again, she bent down low and stuck her face near an orange, inspecting it before rolling it toward the others she had gathered so far.

Continuing with the conversation, she responded to Night. "A very dark area indeed.. There is no sunlight where I live either.." Hesitantly, but surely, she blurted it out. "Would you believe it if I told you that I lived underground?" There. She said it. Since he's a herbivore, she felt rather safe around this buck and was rather calm about telling him her place of residence.

Just make sure you have your word count minimum.

Night watch the doe concentrate on an orange to get it to her collection. No sunlight, he thought. That would explain the difficulty in seeing that she appeared to have.

"Underground?" mused Night. "That sounds rather interesting. I've heard of kin that spend much of their time in caves, but I've never met anyone that lived underground."

Thanks for the reminder. Story's word count should be past 500 by now. (:
I don't know if you want to make another post for this prompt but this helped me out a lot!

By the time she came back to her self made pile of oranges again, it seemed that there were a lot more than she expected. Did she do it on her own? Did Night help out? Satisfied with what she had done so far, she started to smile, but quickly sunk her teeth into a stray orange for a quick bite in order to hide the fact that she was smiling contently.

"Mhmm.. Underground.." she replied. Her heart started to pump the blood faster in her chest and she felt a flush of warmth had start to spread across her cheeks before moving on to the rest of her body. "Caves are lovely and cool, but it tends to echo in there.. Under the soil and rock, it is much cooler and quieter.."

Story looked at the buck, studying his heat pattern once more as she gobbled the stray orange down like candy. The heat waves seemed to glow differently on his body. More heat resided along the middle than the ends of his outline. Made sense, since hooves and tails don't really need so much warmth. They're usually the ones to lose heat the fastest. If I took him down, she thought, he might freeze from the coldness.

"Perhaps.. If you're alone again.. Next time.. You could come take a look.." she told him, and continued to gather oranges before she got bored of doing so.

"Looks like you have quite a collection of fruit," said Night. The buck realized the Zikwa doe would have a harder time traveling with her harvest than a kin that could easily see where they were going. "I have something that can help you get those things home."

Night walked away for a moment, then returned with a couple of large leaves like he'd used for his collection. His avian friends brought vines to help. "We can wrap up your fruit in these leaves. That way you can drag your harvest and they won't roll away."

"That's a very kind offer, Story. I'd be interested in seeing where you call home."

Okay another post or so and this can end pretty sweet as a start of an odd friendship between the meti and a judgemental zikwa (:

Surprised at her own effort, even though her vision wasn't so great, she didn't notice how much time had went by along with how much oranges she ended up collecting. "I do believe, this could last me.. at least a week.. maybe more.." she replied. Unless another zikwa falls prey to temptation, she would have all these ripe oranges for herself. Now how the heck am I supposed to bring these down underground? Roll them all through the entrance? It might block the entrance more than flowing down the path smoothly..

Story had sensed Night's presence leaving her. But when he returned, he was holding onto something she was not familiar with. She inspected the blur of green. "Vines? Care to show me how it works?" she asked about its usage curiously.

And she looked right at him again, unashamed of herself. "I am most certain that I would see you again when you're alone in the swamp.." She chuckled silently. "I hope you're not afraid of the dark.."

"We'll roll your oranges onto one leaf, then cover it with the other." Night demonstrated as he talked. "My winged friends will help us wind the vines around it to hold it all together. Then one vine for you hold onto while you walk."

When he was done, he added, "We do seem to keep crossing paths, don't we?" He smiled back at her, though he wasn't sure she could see his facial expression. "Must be because we work so well together."

She listened as he spoke and observed his movements. Sticking her face closer to the objects, she tried to get a clear image from all of this. At least she has the gist of it and started to roll a few oranges onto the leaf on the ground. "Mhm.. I see.." She pictured herself hauling the leaf full of oranges back underground. "That.. should work.."

Bedtime Story ate another orange before she started to leave the grove and the interesting mellow buck. "It boggles one's mind, but it seems like the swamp wants us to meet.." She couldn't see his smile. The heat pattern on his body morphed into a different pattern again letting her know that he was in a happy mood. She smiled back, unknowingly. "If we meet again for the third time, I will show you one of the many entrances that we use." Of course, if they were found out, she would just destroy that certain tunnel with a landslide.

"I have stayed here longer than intended. It was nice to see you again Night.." She struggled at first to get the giant leaf with oranges moving, but in the end, through trial and error, she figured out how to move about to keep the momentum going. "Let us meet again in the future.." And she started to leave the grove full of oranges.
