"Calm down, Sam!" Kennet barked, scrambling up into a sitting position so he could properly cradle the mess that was his brother. He had tried almost everything, patting his back, nuzzling him, cuddling him, nothing was helping to calm him down! He was like an inconsolable toddler!
"You're not going to die, I'm not going anywhere," He took hold of Samoset and wrapped him in a tight hug. "And you're not alone. You're never alone. You have our family and our Sisters and all of Andile to call home. Dad said that we'd always have someone here to look to if we ever needed them, you've got nothing to worry about!"

Samoset clung to Kennet's back and buried his face into his shoulder. He was so warm and comforting, and his voice was assuring, like the words of a trusted elder. ...Maybe he was right. They weren't truly alone, were they? They were with family... Without dad, but with family. He sniffled, coughed, and raised his head to look at his brother.
"I'm still worried, though." He said, gazing down to the ground. "Like... Wouldn't dad write to us or something? What if he's hurt... Or worse? What would we do then?"

"Don't think about that." Kennet quipped, his eyes growing wide. Their dad wasn't dead, he was safe, he felt it in his heart. Still, as he looked into Samoset's fear stricken eyes, he knew that avoiding the subject wouldn't satiate his paranoia. He sighed and delved into all the possibilities that he knew could happen, and eventually returned with a small, confident, smile.
"If dad is injured, he might not be able to send us a letter." He replied. "He may even be alone and trying to sort through stuff on his own, which is why grandpa hasn't heard anything, either. Just because he hasn't sent us anything doesn't mean he isn't alive, Sam."

Samoset nodded slowly in response to Kennet's words, though still reluctant to accept them all as truth. Instead of protesting any further, he remained in a flopped position against his brother and blew out a puff of air, his second bout of tears over and done with. He enjoyed hearing the steady breathing and heartbeat flowing through Kennet's chest and closed his eyes to rest.
"Gwaaaaa!"
"What was that?" He gasped, jolting up from his relaxed position to meet shocked gazes with his brother. "...Do you think it was...?"

Kennet turned his head to look towards where the noise had come from. That did sound a lot like Yanenowi, their father's Sailscale... The pair remained paralyzed and silent as they listened, both staring straight off into the distance. Seconds became minutes, which felt like hours, before, again, the same cry resounded through the air.
"Gwaaaaa!"
"It has to be her!" He shouted, leaping to his feet. "Yane? Yane? We're over here, girl!"

"Yane! Come here, girl!" Samoset cried, waving his arms about. "Oh my Aisha, please, please, pleaaaaaseee, have dad with you!"
They continued to call out and wave for quite some time, the responses from Yanenowi getting more and more frequent. However, even after racing towards the source of her cries and back again, no sign of the black and green Sailscale could be found.
"Are we just imagining things?" He seethed, stamping his feet against the dirt. "If we are, I might just jump off the nearest cliff!"

"Quit being so damn dramatic!" Kennet barked as he rustled a few nearby bushes. "We both heard her calling somewhere out here, right? We both can't be going insane. We just need to focus and think of where she might have scuttled off to. If we can figure that out, we might just find her!"
He grabbed Samoset's hand and tugged him further down the path, away from where they had been fighting earlier on.
"This path leads back to the house, she might've thought we were calling her in that direction!" He explained. "Hurry!"

Samoset squeaked as he was dragged down the path, but hurried to keep his brother's pace. It made sense that she would check the house for them first, because that's what she was used to, and more so, if she was going there first, it could mean that their father was also there as well!
He bit his lip as they neared the house, his heart beginning to race with anticipation. Please, please, please...
"Yanenowi? Are you here?" He called, gazing to Kennet hesitantly. "... Do you think we should go around the front?"

Kennet pressed his index finger to his lips and shook his head as Samoset spoke, before waving him around the side of the hut. A small window had been made in between the intricate weave of the sticks and wood, allowing the pair to peek inside one of it's rooms. The room in question happened to belong to them and their father, their father's bed taking up the larger portion of the room, which their beds sat off to the side. Two sets of black eyes peered around each corner of the room before settling upon their father's bed, where a hammer could be seen propped up against the edge.
"...He's home." He stated, a grin coming to his features. "He's HOME! DAD'S HOME!"
He grabbed onto Samoset's wrist again and tugged him towards the front entrance of the hut, both of them squealing.

"Dad! Dad!" Samoset cried as he and his brother burst through the door. Where was he? WHERE WAS HE? He couldn't wait to see him, it had been four months! The pair separated to check every room in the house before meeting up in the center room, at a loss as to why their father's hammer would be in his room, but he wouldn't be present himself.
"Maybe he isn't here..." Samoset sighed, gazing off to the side. "...His hammer could've just been found and brought back..."

Kennet echoed his brother's posture and nodded. That seemed like the most logical explanation. Someone found their dad's hammer and brought it back home. The pair sighed, defeated, and flopped against the cushions set up in the center of the room. It seemed as though they had been wrong, once again.
"There you two are! Yane and I raced back out as soon as we heard you yelling for her!"
"Dad!" Samoset and Kennet gasped as their father came racing through the back door, Yanenowi in tow. It seemed like a dream at first, until they were scooped up, kissed, and smothered in their father's familiar, loving fashion. The trio sat crying and cuddling for a while until the rest of the family came home and joined the cuddle pile, all of them more than relieved to have Yaholo back home where he belonged.
