Ravindra tilted his head in concentration as she spoke. It truly wasn't the answer he had hoped for, but it was an answer all the same. He had expected to be awed at the knowledge of many past lives. What she had told him now was much more to process.
"Thank you for your insight and wisdom," he said, trying to buy himself some time. "I will think about this in my travels, and try to understand what it will mean for me. No past lives. If this truly was the dawn of his soul, that was an immense responsibility for his current lifetime. It meant that what he did now might set the theme for what he might do in his future lives. He had always believed that the path of a soul would follow certain trends, hadn't he? What trends would he start his soul with during his life?

"You're very welcome," said Lokesvara, smiling. Suddenly blinking, she turned her head upwards. "The rain, it stopped." Indeed, the rain was no longer misting down upon them. Her mane and tail were still sodden, but no new moisture was added to that weight. Her smile grew broader at this realization, and the expression gave her a much younger appearance. In truth, she was not yet very old in this life at all. There was still much youthful wonder to her.
The skies still hung heavy with clouds, but she thought she could see the sun straining through in places. "Isn't that beautiful?" she murmured, distraction found amidst the unexpected beauty.

"It is beautiful," agreed Ravindra. Looking at the sky, his life felt put into perspective. The sky was never exactly the same twice, and yet in each incarnation it was beautiful. At the dawn of creation, would the first sky really have been any less wondrous, even for its newness? That was how his soul was too, perhaps. The first sky upon a new plane of existence.
"If I find you in my next life, you'll have to remind me of how our souls first met," he said, eyes crinkling as they met the angeni's once more. There was a thought, certainly.

"I'm afraid I won't remember you if my soul has reached another rebirth," replied Lokesvara, with the same twinkle of playfulness in her eye. "The spirits do not allow us to recall the paths we trod before, unfortunately." She took a moment to flick lingering droplets off her wings as she said this, turning her head over her shoulder to look back in the direction of the herd.
"But for this moment of this life, I'm afraid I must bid you farewell." She turned back to him, watching him one last time with her ancient youthful eyes. "There are matters back at the herd I must attend to." She flexed her wings briefly, as if testing their power. "But you take good care of that new soul you carry," she advised him, friendly but serious all at once. "It can be a gift to be living for the first time, after all." With that, there was nothing more to be said. She lifted off, heading back to the Padmapani herd and her home.
