She almost jerked away when Detra's fingers clamped down on her wrist. When she saw it was him, though, she forced herself to run with him. The tunnel floor seemed as if it was alive the way it shook under them, causing her to stumble and making it hard to keep pace with Detra's run. As they broke free of the tunnel, they fell, toppling forward as if the earth had given them one last shove. She clenched her eyes shut, expecting the hard, rough surface of the cave floor but instead she hit a soft surface. Her eyes flew open at her name and she glanced down. She had fallen on Detra. Her cheeks flamed as she scrambled off of him, apologizing as she went. Just as she was about to open her mouth to apologize again a roar sounded. Ara’s gaze jerked up in time to see a firani dragon open its mouth and let loose a stream of flame right towards the both of them. Her hands flew up, pulling at the wind and shoving into the dragon’s flames, pushing them back and out away from the pair. She pushed herself up from the floor, all the while keeping a hold on her magic and the force of wind between them and the dragon’s bellowing flames. She shoved with her magic, using the flames licking at the oxygen rich wind that her magic controlled and shoved it back at the beast. She manipulated the wind, shoving it down the beast’s throat, flames and all. She kept moving, slowly filling the dragon’s lungs up to capacity. She didn’t stop there, Ara kept forcing the air into the dragon’s lungs until, finally, the life of its eyes flickered out and it fell, disappearing into dust and leaving behind two glittering soul orbs.

30/2 = 15 16 + 15 = 31/56 exp +1 Firani Orb Detraeus breathed out, shutting his eyes as Araceli’s weight lifted off of him. His next instinct, he knew, would have been to shove her off himself, and why he had even hesitated in that venture, he wasn’t entirely sure, but thankfully, she’d been quick about moving it, saving him the effort. As soon as the dragon roared, however, his tension — though, admittedly, of an entirely different sort — leapt back up, and he rolled sidelong, out from under the flame. Gusts of heat rippled over the cavern floor, fire driven aside by wind, but still hot enough to fill the room with its wake. The slow burn of it seeped through the thick leather of his boots, through his tunic, and the protective hide of his gloves to make beads of perspiration build up beneath his clothes. Detraeus reached back, and drew an arrow as Ara fought, keeping it stringed tight and taking a step back, out of their way. But the arrow was, apparently, never needed. Instead, he watched with focussed attention as the dovaa at his side buried the dragon’s own magic within it, burning it from the inside out and giving it more air than its lungs could carry before it burst into dust before them. In the aftermath, he tossed her a glance. Curious. Calculative. She was more than he’d originally taken her for, and with that in mind, he lowered his bow slowly, tucked his arrow back away, and stepped up beside her to fetch his half of the prize.

Room 8 First die: If the number is 1-2, you encounter a Firani dragon. If the number is 3-4, you encounter a Peisio dragon. Second die: If the number is 1, a sudden beam of light hits the room from outside, brightening the light where you can see better. Your luck chance has increased by 10%! [So if your normal luck range is normally 61-100, it is now 51-100. You cannot go below 6-100, though.] If the number is 2, the dragon encountered is a Ysali dragon instead of the dragon rolled. If the number is 3-4, nothing happens and you fight as normal. Even more glowing fungus in this room, which has spread to the ceiling in patches as well. This room has a large puddle, almost a small pond, in the middle. Watch out! From this point, treat as a normal dragon hunt and every participant rolls to see what the result is. If you win, do you: A) Move deeper into the cave? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 9"B) Move closer to the entrance? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 7" C) Leave? Go to "Exit" Ara turned, grinning at Detraues as he move pick his orb up. That had been the first time she had ever thought to overfill a beast’s lungs with air and had been shocked that it had actually worked. She fetched her own orb and stashed it away with the others. Her pack was growing heavier with the ever expanding hoard of orbs they were collecting. Ara didn’t mind, though. The weight of their spoils was satisfying as she patted the bag closed. Ara opened her mouth to speak but had to clear her throat. The heat from the dragon’s attack had parched her throat, as if drying up all the moisture in her mouth. She sighed as she flicked open her flask and took a swig of the cold water inside. With a satisfied sound, she held the flask out to Detra. “Drink?” A small smile was stuck on her lips unbeknownst to her.

His attention then caught, though, on her lips, and her smile, and he felt his pulse stutter in his throat. His brow pinched. She had drank from the canteen first, and although his instinct said to distrust it, something in his gut told him otherwise. He was thirsty. Thus, hesitantly, he reached out, gripping the flask and drawing it to him. He smelled it before he drew it to his lips, and took only a tiny portion on his tongue at first, testing it before he drank more. He supposed there were still dangers, overall, but in this moment, he let them slide by the wayside, drinking because he was thirsty and because Araceli was smiling. After sating his thirst — and, thankfully, feeling no immediate adverse side effects — Detraeus offered the flask back to her with a murmured, “Thank you…” barely loud enough to be audible, and started towards the next tunnel. Upon making his way most of the way through it, he sighed, pursing his lips as he spotted the next dragon, and slouched his weight sidelong, propping a shoulder against the tunnel’s edge. “Come quick, Araceli,” he muttered boredly. “I’m sure we’re both in grave danger…”

It seemed as they traveled deeper and deeper into the cave systems, more of the glowing fungi emerged. Even now they were climbing up the wall and onto the ceiling of the cave. Ara was jerked out of her thoughts by Detra's voice. She hurried her pace up, pausing and staring just just a second as Detraeu's sarcastic words hit home. There, in the middle of the large cave was a small ysali dragon splashing around in the a small pond. Ara couldn't hold back a small giggle at the site and Detra's words combined. "Oh yes, so ferocious," she said as she gathered her magic in front of her. A small tornado began to form and she pushed it off towards the water. As it neared the small pond, it grew in size and as it hit the water, liquid began streaming up into it, turning her tornado into a water spout. The dragon squeaked, as it was caught up in the wind. She focused her magic, keeping the dragon within the whirlwind and as she let her magic fall away, two green orbs glittered on the surface of the small pond in front of them.

Room 9 First die: If the number is 1, you encounter a Firani dragon. If the number is 2-3, you encounter a Peisio dragon. If the number is 4, you encounter an Aiskala dragon. Second die: If the number is 1, nothing happens and you fight as normal. If the number is 2, there is no dragon in this room and instead you encounter a Notbjavoin. See "Creatures" below to see stats. You still fight just like in a dragon hunt, only against the creature instead of a dragon. If the number is 3, after beating the dragon, you find a small chest! Opening it reveals one healing potion per participant. [If you have found the chest and reenter and roll a 3 again, the chest is there, but empty since you already opened it.] If the number is 4, nothing happens and you fight as normal. The floors are now very damp, so watch your step! More fungus on the ceiling reflects in the water on the floor. This room has several large boulders scattered about the area. At the giggle, Detraeus’ attention darted sidelong, a strange flicker of warmth teasing his gut at the sound, and he felt the corner of his lips threaten to twitch upwards. He coughed instead, mouth flicking oddly but not quite making it into a proper smile. When Ara took care of the dragon as easily as kicking aside a bothersome insect, he choked around a half-bred chuckle, and hummed before stepping into the room. “Terribly ferocious,” he agreed. “I’m scarred for life…” Thinking of the very real scars marking his body — particularly the glowing etchings of old orderite magic that would never, apparently, fade — Detraeus’ temporary mirth faded in a wink, and he grimaced privately, stooping to retrieve his orb. “Admirable performance,” he said. But by then, his sarcasm had faded, leaving something else in its wake that, intentionally or not, came out sounding far more genuine as he started off towards the next tunnel. He stepped gingerly around the growing pools, his night vision making up for the lack of light effortlessly, even without the glow from the fungi above, and as he closed in on their next target, he slowed his pace, surveying the room itself. Rocky. Wet. Several large, protruding boulders, some covered with the same glowing fungi, suggesting that they had been in place for an extended period of time. Then, the subject of their next task made its appearance, and Detraeus smiled, readying an arrow. At least it wasn’t another ysali.

The light was growing darker and her vision was failing her. She knew, however, that he could see perfectly fine in nothing but pitch black darkness. The soft glow from the mushrooms gave a little light to the tunnel and cave but not nearly enough for her to see as well as she had in the past caves. She paused at Detra’s side, glancing over at him just in time to see the tail end of a smile before the dragon roared and ducked down behind a large out cropping of boulders. she moved away from Detra, readying her magic as the beast popped back up from behind the boulders. She shot forward, magic blasting at the dragon and narrowly missing it by less than an inch. The dragon seemed to be using the rocks to its advantage and Ara cursed silently as it disappeared down behind some other grouping of rocks. As she waited patiently for the dragon to reappear, her focus completely on that cropping of rock in front of her. Distracted as she was by her assumption the dragon would reappear in the same spot, she didn’t see or hear the dragon coming up to her right. As she turned, the dragon let loose a fireball. Ara had just enough time to flick her right hand up, deflecting most of the fireball up and into the roof of the cave. She yelped, however, when some of the fire grazed the skin of her forearm. She pulled her arm in close to her, eyes watering at the sting of the burn and backing away as quick as she could from the dragon.

30/2 = 15 34 + 15 = 49/56 exp +1 Firani Orb Detraeus watched the interplay carefully, holding his arrow nocked and at the ready, waiting for an opening. When the dragon surprised Ara, though, coming out from behind an unanticipated boulder and sending a rogue fireball her way, Detraeus grimaced and fired. Two shots towards the dragon’s head as Ara’s wind guided its blast — mostly — upwards into a heated billow of light and shadow across the cavern ceiling. Singed rock and dust rained down on them, filling the air with a dingy, charcoal-scented smoke as Detraeus moved in. Unfortunately, though he did not need light to see, smoke and debris were another matter entirely, the miniature particles of rock and ash distorting his sense of shape, and as the dragon backed away, wounded in the jaw and throat, it took advantage of that, snorting out additional billows of black smoke with its retreat. Detraeus snarled. Unused to having his vision out of play under virtually any circumstances, he fired three shots into the smog. Blind, testing shots. When he heard nothing back, he pursed his lips, eyes narrowed, and crouched low, pulling his cloak around to cover his mouth and keep his lungs clear of the burning soot. Sooner or later, the beast would make a showing again, but Detraeus did not want it to be entirely on the dragon’s terms. This in mind, he stepped towards the cavern entrance. At least if he drew its attention, that would keep the next surprise attack from being aimed at Araceli. Without a second thought to why it mattered whether or not the beast went for the dovaa girl, Detraeus called out into the smoke. “ Coward. And here I thought those born of fire were among the proudest and most ferocious of all dragons. Not the kind to slink between the rocks and cower in their own shadow like ysali snakes…” Thankfully, the one thing reliably larger than a dragon’s wingspan was its pride, and in a matter of seconds, Detraeus’ prey roared, and he immediately leased an arrow in the direction of the sound. Just in time to watch its great, glinting body emerge from the black smoke. The sneering, garbled snaps and slithered syllables of dragon dialect filled the air, but only long enough for Detraeus bury another two arrows in its belly, and a throwing blade in its throat. The creature’s last words were a croaking cry as its body disintegrated into dust in the pools at their feet. Breathless, hot in the face, and sweating from the combined assault of soot and distant fire, Detraeus rubbed his forearm across his forehead and eyes, grimacing. Bath. He would need to wash thoroughly after this. First, though… Detraeus moved over towards Araceli, stooping to a crouch at her side and eyeing her arm critically. After having spent so much time on his own, all of it without any magic to manipulate to his aid and an extreme distrust of letting anyone touch him, Detraeus had picked up a good bit of information on treating himself and his ailments. That knowledge had multiplied quadrafold a after his time with Martrae’a who — though not outright ‘schooling’ him in the matter — had subtly continued to drop information to him every time the opportunity arose, and he put it to use now. “It’s shallow,” Detraeus said. “You’re lucky. Not burnt to the bone, only through the first layer of skin. Best, though, if you can cool it first before cleaning and wrapping. Do you have sterilized water?”

Ara's eyes flicked from her arm, up to Detra's face as he talked. Wiping the moisture away from her eyes she nodded at his question and pointed to her discarded pack a few feet away. "There's a flask of water in there. Lithian gave it to me before I left." She smiled wanly. "I suppose he was right to assume I'd need it." She let out a small sigh as she looked back down at the burn wound on her arm. Detra was right, it wasn't too terrible of a burn but boy did it sting. It was bad enough that she'd likely seek Lithian out for a healing session once they were done with the cave.
"I'm sorry you keep having to come to my aid." Her cheeks flushed lightly at that. Ara knew she could take care of herself and yet it seemed as if each time Detra and her were around each other, he had helped her in some way. "You must think I'm an incompetent fighter." She muttered quietly, unsure why she even cared what he thought of her.

Detraeus shrugged, moving over to take up the pack in question and retrieve the flask mentioned. It came in a small, dark bottle, faintly glowing with markings apparently meant to keep it cool, from the feel, and likely sterile also. “I’ve never been obligated to come to your aid,” he said, pouring just enough water onto a clean cloth from the bag to cool and wet it before watching her reaction as he layered it gently over her burned skin. It must have stung, he knew it, having suffered his fair share of burn wounds in his own time, but she took it well overall. “I have chosen to aid you, when I felt it appropriate. You’ve no need to apologize for my choices. They’re not yours to regret.”
After letting the washing rag rest long enough to cool the burn as much as he thought they had time for, Detraeus pulled it carefully away and began helping Ara to wrap the area loosely in cleaned gauze bandaging. He kept his fingers light, avoiding contact with her skin as much as possible and training his focus to the wound and the wound alone.
“Whether or not I think you incompetent is irrelevant,” he said as he worked. “So long as you aren’t, we should make it out of here alive and better trained.” When he’d finished wrapping her wound, Detraeus tucked away the remainder of her supplies, corking the bottle of spelled water, and offering her the pack back. “Will you be continuing on with me, or turning back?”

Room 10 First die: If the number is 1-2, you encounter a Peisio dragon. If the number is 3-4, you encounter an Aiskala dragon. Second die: If the number is 1, there is no dragon in this room. Instead, you find yourself facing a large pit in the middle of the room. Along the walls, there is a small ledge of floor remaining. RP crossing (or not crossing) this pit. If the number is 2-3, nothing happens and you fight as normal. If the number is 4, after fighting the dragon you find a locked chest. You can try to open it by rolling one 100-sided die. If you want to try and pick the lock open, add your INT. If you want to try and bash the chest open, add your ATK. Make sure only one person rolls and adds their desired stat! You may not combine your INT and your partners ATK. Only one person may try forcing the chest open or picking it at one time! If the first person fails, then the next gets to try and so on until everyone has failed or someone succeeded. If your combined die roll and score is 70 or higher, you open the chest to find a Potion of Strength (one for each participant). Otherwise, the chest remains locked. [You can only find the locked chest once and each participant only has one chance at opening it. So if you reenter this room and roll a 4 again, the chest is still there and locked if it was not opened. If opened, it sits empty.] More of the glowing fungus grows in this room, aiding what little light has penetrated this far into the cave system. The light reflects off the damp walls and puddles, adding to this effect. From this point, treat as a normal dragon hunt and every participant rolls to see what the result is. If you win, do you: A) Move deeper into the cave? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 11"B) Move closer to the entrance? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 9" C) Leave? Go to "Exit" She watched as he cleaned the wound, wincing a few times at the sting of the ointments being applied. Ara let out a sigh as he pulled away, the wound dressed and taken care of. She wondered where he had learned to dress wounds so efficiently, so skillfully. As she shrugged her pack back over her shoulder and stood, she found herself wanting to know more about this oblivionite. Found herself strangely curious about who he was and where he came from. What made him tick? What made him choose to come to her aid when he could have just as easily avoided the mess and trouble of helping her. Ara tensed at his question and shook her head. "I am not turning back after coming this far. It's a minor burn." She squared her shoulders, head lifting a fraction of an inch. She would not back out of this now. Ara moved, choosing a tunnel at random. Ara ran her fingers along the slick walls of the tunnel, basically feeling her way through as their surroundings darkened even more, only the light glow from the fungi as their main source of light. She heard it before she could even see it. A small rock skidded across the ground and dropped. The echoing sound of what could only be a drop off sounded through the tunnel. She paused at the opening of the tunnel, barely able to make out the gaping pit that was in front of her. She glanced back to Detra, frowning. "How deep is it...?"

Detraeus frowned, moving up beside Araceli and then past her to crouch and look down. He’d never been afraid of heights, but all the same, the sight was dizzying. Eventually, he said only: “I see no bottom. It just keeps going down. Blackness at the base.” He had never experienced blackness that he could not see through, and little as he liked to admit it, it left his stomach uneasy. He stood carefully, and frowned back at Ara, who was even more disadvantaged than him.
She could not even see the way around.
Frowning, he scoped out the area, studying the narrow ledge around the pit’s center and the tunnels beyond it. Fortunately, the ledge looked thick enough all the way around that it shouldn’t cause them any issues, but he could see it being intimidating for someone who could barely see by anything but the faint glowing light of the fungus. He rolled his shoulders, tense all down his back at the thought of the offer he knew he ought to make, and a small ache at the base of his spine pulsed with pain. Grimacing, he offered a hand stiffly.
“Come. I’ll lead.”

Ara's pulse picked up at the thought of something seemingly bottomless looming in front of her. The fact that not even Detra, with the unique sight of his race on his side, could see the bottom of the pit unnerved her to no end. She rubbed her arms, trying to force away the slight chill the very thought gave her.
Ara blinked as she looked down at the offered hand. A completely unexpected gesture and she knew, in the little time that they'd been together in the cave, that to willingly let her touch him was a huge step for him. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She reached her hand out, hesitating briefly before placing her hand in his. She kept her grip loose, not wanting to squeeze too tightly lest he jerk away, taking with him the only life line she had as they crossed around the pit.
The first step onto the ledge caused her heart to skip a beat. As she looked down Ara could only see the faint outline of the edge they were making their way around. Pebbles slid out from under her feet, tumbling down into the pit and never making a sound. It seemed as if the ledge went on forever, much like the deep pit before them. She stumbled lightly, her grip tightening on Detra's hand as she gasped quietly. When he jerked around, she found her balance, loosening her grip on his hand again. "I-I'm fine." She muttered as she urged him to continue forward. Finally, after what seemed like hours, they made it to the other side and she let a nervous sigh escape her lips.

Room 11 First die: If the number is 1, you encounter a Peisio dragon. If the number is 2-3, you encounter an Aiskala dragon. If the number is 4, you encounter a Gaili dragon Second die: If the number is 1-2, nothing happens and you fight as normal. If the number is 3, list every participant and generate a number from this list. That character has stepped in some fresh dragon poo and will spend the rest of this room stinking. (No effect on luck chance.) If the number is 4, you begin to shiver, lowering your luck chance by 10%. [If your normal luck range is 61-100, it is now 71-100.] The light from outside no longer penetrates this far, but the glowing fungus has taken over so that you are in a perpetual twilight dimness from here onward. The dampness has now taken a chill to the air as well, leaving a few ice crystals upon the walls here and there. From this point, treat as a normal dragon hunt and every participant rolls to see what the result is. If you win, do you: A) Move deeper into the cave? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 12" B) Move closer to the entrance? Roll 2 4-sided dice and go to "Room 10" C) Leave? Go to "Exit" Detraeus’ palm burned, the muscles in his arm rigid as a plank and back just as stiff. His pulse felt like a machine lodged in his throat, thrumming away louder than his thoughts, but he forced his feet forward, step by step. Araceli’s hand in his felt ridiculously hot and he willed himself not to sweat. If he did, that would defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it? When she slipped, he yanked around on instinct, tightening his hold to a vice grip and stilling her waist with his spare hand, posture like iron. It took several long seconds for her words to sink in, and then several more before he convinced his body to move again. Stupid. It was just a hand. What did he have to fear from one young dovaa woman’s grip? She wasn’t incompetent as she claimed she feared to be, he knew that. But he also knew himself to be stronger, and more practiced. So why his body’s reactions? Why the base, crippling terror of something he couldn’t name simply because her skin was in contact with his? As they reached the other side, safe from the yawning maw of the bottomless pit and into the next tunnel, Detraeus concluded it was not about fear of Araceli. Her fingers dropped from his, her words gentle, and he knew he didn’t fear her. He feared himself, and his capacity to hurt her. Wincing at the thought, entirely unsettled, he drew further away from her body heat, and buried the thoughts as deeply as they would go into his subconscious. He had more immediate concerns to take into consideration, and for now, they had made it safely across the pit. As the made it closer to the tunnel’s exit, Detraeus watched his breath steam, forming small, translucent clouds, like the spirits of winter coming to dance, and he knew before they saw it what awaited them in the next tunnel. What he didn’t see was precisely where his foot was headed when he made one of the last few steps towards the tunnel’s opening. He felt it, though. The soft crunch of a very thin layer of outward ice and then the heat, foul gush and stench of something unmistakable world-round. He froze, and then cursed beneath his breath. Of all things…
