"It's not about that!" Xilarn snapped as he bolted to his feet to ensure that he wasn't being monstrously towered over by his already-taller companion. "I don't care about the water." Much.
He pinched the bridge of his nose between his fingers, glowering down at the ground as he soothingly rubbed the pads of his fingers over his nose. "I want you to respect me," he iterated in a slightly more controlled tone. "But you don't. Ever. Is everything I say really such a challenge to you? You can be your own person and still show respect. We can even be..." he sought out a word, his hands falling to fists at his sides as his lids clamped shut.
"Equals. We can be equals and still show respect for each other. I don't even think we can be equal without respect." He huffed softly, shoulders sinking as tension melded off of them. "The point is, if I don't like something... If something annoys me, don't try and force it on me. It's rude."

Kennet leaned backwards as Xilarn jumped to his feet and gave him an awkward look. Okaaay, so, it wasn't about the water, but respect? Not that he would admit it, but the idea of that was a little, well, new. He'd never been respected by anyone but his father, really, and even that had it's limits. The hybrid relaxed his posture and tilted his head to the side curiously, before shrugging out his reply.
"Alright, I'm sorry, I won't do that again." He said, extending his hand out. "Honestly, I've always felt we were equals, but I guess we can work towards that. Truce, buddy?"

Xil quirked a brow speculatively at his companion. He really threw such a fuss and then gave up so easily? Xil wasn't naturally inclined to do the same, but with a few deep breaths, he settled into the idea that they really could get past this without some grievous argument. It wasn't something he was used to. At home, he was forced to fight (verbally) to defend his thoughts and actions all the time. His brother and sister would never let him go so easily... But Kennet did.
And for a savage, that seemed a little out of character. Though maybe not for his friend.
Xilarn's answering nod was slow and hesitant, still mildly untrusting, but welcoming enough. "Very well," he acquiesced softly, slowly reaching to clasp Ken's hand and give it a firm shake. he hadn't ever thought of them as 'equals,' at least, not really. Ken was still a fascination to him, but one that he felt reasonably close to. Closer than anyone else in this godforsaken forest. And that was enough of a start.
"Truce."
