“Runs in the family, I guess,” said Babylon, although he’d never thought to make the connection before. It was strange to think of his ancestor in love, stranger still to think of him in love with an older, different Virgo. He thought back to the first time he’d met Virgo, how excited she’d been when she thought she was his ancestor reborn, and now he understood the full extent of her sadness to find that he was not. It was not just a friend whose title he now wore.
“I don’t know why I was born now instead of him,” he shrugged. If he did know - would that change anything? No, he thought. Because Finn Derouen would still be the knight of Babylon, whether or not he knew the mechanism behind his existence or not. “I’m sorry. I can’t change that.” Nor would he. He was not a selfless enough person to give up his life so that his ancestor might live again, not even for some crazy, romantic, intergalactic love story - and it wasn’t even possible, if he’d wanted to.
“We should-” he said hesitantly, offering a hand to Virgo. “We should head back to Earth.” He felt suddenly exhausted, like there was a heavy weight pressing down on him. Emotional tiredness.

She smiled at Babylon, a little more naturally this time. “I wouldn’t want you to,” she said, and it was a lie, but she’d spent over a year in a Swiss finishing school and the lie came naturally to her lips, as sweet as if she was telling him a truth. “You’re right. We should go back.” She put her hand in Babylon’s, because she felt like sitting in her dorm room and crying miserably until there were literally no tears left in her.
