Gold? Wasn't that some sort of good omen? Wen looked over the gold hatching, calm, relaxed, panicking because, was she sinking? Welp, that wasn't a good thing. He looked down at his feet, lifting one foot and then the other. He didn't need to go sinking into the sands any time soon.

Mairin rocked back onto her heels and watched the two dragonets carefully. She was ready to move away from the feisty green if she decided to barrel her way into the girls side of things. Mairin might like a challenge but she had learned the last time that engaging an angry baby got her nowhere.
The young woman wasn't sure if she should be amused or concerned by the fact that it seemed Paige had the attention of both the green and the now somewhat dirty gold. The touching had not been a pleasant experience for the other girl but today looked like it could be, unless this was just the start of another fight. It was hard to say and either way Mairin could currently do little more than watch.

Saenshu's icy blue eyes widened as the gold revealed herself in all her glory, making her way to the female candidates. Okay, he had to admit; that was an incredible sight to see. But... wasn't it starting to get rather crowded over there? All of the boys were standin' around like dimglows while the action took place for the girls. Hrm. Well, he did know it was a good thing if a Gold hatched early, so he didn't think too much on it -- but he was concerned somewhat for the safety of the girls.
Raising his arms to stretch, the young man glanced over at the rest of the eggs, wondering what surprise they had to look forward to next.

Cai
It didn't take too long to set up their station thankfully, though the rain had certainly made it more difficult keeping the rolled bandages dry and clean, among the other more delicate supplies. He'd managed to even have a chance to watch the beginning of the Hatching and first egg out he was sure his predictions for a bloody hatching would be realized. That little green had a vendeta against something and it looked like she was going to take it out on two of the girls on the Sands. Cai opened a small jar of redwort oil and prepared a couple curved needles with thread just in case.
Paige
"oh. oh. oh. oh. oh." Paige's already shallow excited breaths quickened as panic set in. The green was still staring at her and now the gold was racing towards them and OH SHAFF they were going to fight or attack or she really should just get out of here now because she liked her blood where it belonged and Paige sidestepped behind Jemi (sorry!) and slowly worked her way backwards. Just get out of the way and don't run and the candidatemaster was REALLY SERIOUS on that point. She wouldn't be a target again if she could just get off their radar now please!

She smiled over at Fiolen and she was glad that he was just as excited. "This is something else isn't it!" she said with a smile and her eyes were taken back to the sands as she heard the sound of an egg cracking. Without warning the Gold egg shattered and she couldn't help but admire the beauty of her and then she watched in worry as she noticed her panic in the sinking sands and dash towards Paige. She feared for Paige in this moment because she had seemed jumpy already and being not to far away she watched as Paige ducked behind Jemi and Naressa did the only thing she could think of. She spoke softly aloud and mentally and stepped in the way in case she didn't stop. "Please calm yourself little one. The soft sands will not harm you." Naressa braced herself for impact if it should come. Panicking wasn't going to help the situation and she wondered if the girl had a bad experience some time before and that was why she was so jumpy. Her thoughts were averted as she did her best to express security and safety towards the panicked hatchling. The last thing anyone needed was a hatchling injuring itself or others because it couldn't calm down. Her fears of whether or not she might impress vanished because all she worried about now was what was going to happen next. Would the dragon collide with her or would she calm down or change course. That was all her mind worried about. That and there was still the irate green not to far away. This was going to be a disaster from what she was picking up.

Kaimi
The run through the rain had left Kaimi soaked and dripping. The harper was grateful that the sands were nice and warm as she ran on to them, belatedly bowing to Hyweth and taking her place among the other female candidates. She edged her way near Paige, needing a familiar face nearby. Her heart was in her throat - she hadn't thought that the sound of dragons humming and the impending hatching would effect her like this, but she found herself a bundle of nerves underneath her typical excitement.
When the wicked green emerged, Kaimi spent a moment appreciating her. Her attitude seemed to match the touching experience many of the candidates had - arrogant and beautiful. When the gold hatched, Kaimi let out an appreciative sound. Then the gold barreled near to where Kaimi was standing. She was moving so fast! And seemed distressed! Kaimi hoped the gold found Hers quickly, maybe that would help her to calm down.

The gold hatchlings eyes slowly turned to red. The Wicked green had frightened Paige! With a roar, the gold lept fourth, knocking the green to the ground. The gold loomed over the tiny green, snarling. How dare she?! How dare she?! This wasn't right! This was beyond wrong! The gold's anger radiated from her hide, sweeping over those nearest to her. She dug her claws into the green, snarling. The message was clear. Paige was not for the Wicked green. I am sorry you had to see that, a gentle voice hit Paige's mind. It was apologetic. This one needed to learn her place. Let us go, and show Pern our worth. First, we eat!

Saenshu found his foot inching to step forward as the moment was growing heated, but stopped himself as the Gold was firmly making her authority known.
Ah, he understood now. Well, he wasn't sure if it was common or not, but it seemed pretty great that the Gold would find hers first. Poor green, though. He wasn't sure many would be able to deal with that sort of humiliation -- he felt a tinge in his chest slightly, was it right for the little green to be treated that way? His gut made him feel somewhat angry for her, but he kept his expression flat as he looked on from the group of boys.

Kaimi
"Oh, Paige!" Kaimi, who had been worried about a mauling, found her face breaking into a huge grin at the sight of her friend impressing. And the Gold, no less! Well, at least one of them would walk away happy from this hatching! Kaimi bounced in place, clapping her hands for Paige and her queen. Though, selfishly, Kaimi found herself hoping, in a tiny part of her mind, that the responsibilities of being a goldrider wouldn't keep Paige from spending time with Kaimi. There was music to be played, and she didn't want to lose her friend!
The Wicked Green, though, did not seem terribly pleased about being taken to task by her sister. Kaimi's grin turned to a more thoughtful expression - she hoped that the proud green wouldn't take it out on the other candidates.

Hmm, that had not been called for, the poor green hadn't even really done anything. Mairin wondered if there as just something innately aggressive in the gold's that hatched here. She'd never paid much attention to the specifics about hatchings past in lessons and couldn't recall if such incidents were common or if it had just been the last two times. Well at least the gold appeared to have chosen her riders quickly, that meant she'd have to get off the sands and leave the little green be for now.

Dianno
Dianno's brows shot up. "Woah" They weren't kidding then. The gold dragon charged the green and threw her to the ground, fangs bared. Were they going to fight?! Dianno watched intensely, placing bets on the larger gold immediately. There was no hope for the green. Would she kill her? Did dragons do that? They'd been told that they could kill humans at this point in their lives, but could they kill other dragons?
Also... it would suck to be the impressee of a bleeding dragon.
Cai
Huh... he had forgotten to ask if any of their healers on duty today were experienced in healing dragons... because he was not.
Paige
Oh SHAFF! It was time to get out of here! Paige practically jumped out of her sandals as the two dragons tumbled to the sands together. Angry green was scary, angry gold was TERRIFYING. She scrambled a few feet sideways, getting out of claw range of the snarling beasties before she could get involved.
I am sorry you had to see that, Paige froze midstep, her breath gone as she felt her insides transform into a black hole. Her eyes stared wide, flickering back and forth across the swirling golden hide till they met the rainbow glow of the face staring straight at her. Eyes. Gorgeous eyes. How could such eyes exist and how could things be so quiet when they were there? There should be music, a choir, a song incomprehensible. She heard nothing though, nothing but a faint humm and a voice.
This one needed to learn her place. Let us go, and show Pern our worth. First, we eat! Venaith stepped off of the wicked Green, her gait stately and proud where it had once been both frightened and full of rage. The whirling colors of her eyes slowed, and settled into a deep blue, shot only slightly with the red pangs of hunger. Come Paigemine. Her voice chuckled in the harper's mind as she reached her head up, touching her nose to her new bonded's forehead.
Paige couldn't move. She was in shock and her world shook around her. Her knees were weak. Was this? Did this really happen? Was this beautiful creature hers and hers alone or had she fainted on the sands (again)? The breath of the dragon, Venaith, was warm on her face. Soft and wonderful. It brought Paige back down to earth and she exhaled forcefully. Shaking hands cupped the jaw of the gold hatchling and Paige stroked her egg-soft cheeks. She wanted to kiss her! Thought was put to action and as sheer delight spread across her stunned face, Paige grasped Venaith's face and planted one right on that golden nose.
Her head shot up suddenly and she looked at Kaimi and Jemi in fear. "I'm sorry! I have to. Venaith!" She didn't want to leave her friends behind. The hatching had only just started and she had to leave her friends out there alone! She couldn't stay though, not with Venaith's gentle insistence that they leave now. That she was terribly hungry.

As Venaith and her rider retreated to the feeding area, the Wicked Green got to her feet, her head low. More than her pride had been injured, and she moved with a bit of a limp, though she was not bleeding badly. She moved away from the female candidates, her tail lashing in pain and frustration. Threading her way as far from the humans as she could get, Wicked made her way behind the Pale egg and hunkered down, making sad little crooning sounds. She hadn't wanted Paige! Paige was not worthy of her! But she did not deserve to be attacked while she was searching! The world was a cruel place, this little green was discovering.
Unfortunately for her, the hits just kept on coming. From directly underneath her claws, the sand began to shake and move until the Wicked Green was suddenly lifted into the air... on the back of another hatchling! Buried underneath the sand, quite out of the way, there had been an egg. Quiet and unnoticed, it had been left in peace until something walked right on top of it.
As the hatchling wobbled under the weight of his sister, they both stumbled out into the open where his warm brown hide could be seen clearly. The Hidden Brown fell over onto his side, spilling Wicked onto the sand. He shook the goo from his hide and then nosed his sister. Was she okay? He crooned gently, noting that she was injured. Well, that would never do! The Hidden Brown snorted and stepped in front of the Wicked Green as if to protect her from the ravages of the hatching.

His eyes followed the Wicked green as she limped off, the feeling of anger still lingering in his chest. It was hard to watch something small get bullied so badly by something much bigger. In fact, it was against the very core of who he is, and if it were the world of humans he'd have been in the fray already, fists flying. But it wasn't. It was the world of dragons.
Heaving a frustrated sigh, his expression wavered as another hatchling revealed itself, and to his pleasure - seemed to take on a stance of guarding his sibling. Yes, this was what he wanted to see. The brown was enacting exactly how he felt, and he was glad for it -- the stronger should always help protect those in need. What other purpose does their strength even hold?

I told you something terrible would happen Aspith grumbled as he continued to stare down at the soaked sands. Something felt off here and the blue had just known no good could come from this hatching. At the moment he was just grateful the little queen could not fly and harm him as well. Not that he would ever do anything worth retaliation but still!
All he wanted was a quiet, gentle soul to bask with and with whom to share the secrets he and his knew. He doubted such a dragon existed in this clutch, they all seemed so bold, so showy.
It's not even as bad as last time E'zen countered, although he knew it was early yet and anything could happen.

Kaimi
Kaimi smiled as Paige made her explanations and went off with her new dragon. Of course she had to go! Of course her friends would understand! Kaimi only hoped that she would be so lucky, that there was a dragon in one of these eggs that wanted her.
She admired Paige's gold, but she did feel an outpouring of compassion for the little green. The poor thing looked as if it was hurt, and it was stumbling away from the candidates as wanting nothing to do with them. Kaimi prayed that the trauma was not enough to put her off Impressing, or to make her go between. That would be awful! But it appeared her fears would be laid to rest, as another dragon hatched... right under the green! Had she known that egg was there? Had anyone known there was an egg hiding under the sands? Could there be more? Was this a common thing?
The brown that emerged seemed concerned about the injured green. Kaimi's face warmed into a smile. Maybe he would give his sister the courage to get back out there and try again!
