Kursha was busy stewing in his juices when golden beetles began to tumble out of the sky. For a moment, he could hardly believe his lookstubs. Then his reflexes kicked in and he grabbed at a shiny beetle. It fit snugly in his fist. Off to his right he saw another troll with her arms raised, fingers looking as though they were conducting the descent of another beetle towards her. Without a moment's hesitation, Kursha broke into a run. Leaping into the air, he snatched beetle out from her grasping fingertips and landed a short distance away. Like a true jerk, he did not so much as glance back over his shoulder and kept on walking.
His mood had improved considerably. Perhaps the trip to the desert had not been a complete waste of time after all. True, he had not found the lusus, and yes the weather was abominable, but his team-mates were not as terrible as he had expected - they were even somewhat tolerable - and when the wind had been still, and the moon was out, the desert was truly beautiful. He would have to come back some time, and check out the sights. For now though, his mind went to frosty treats...
