The frown faded from her face as she watched Maedoc. Instead, she found herself wondering when she had last allowed herself to be treated like a proper lady. Probably...not since the night she had allowed Macaire to escort her home. And before that? Rajani could not recall. But at least things with the Aireish man had turned out better than she could have guessed. Perhaps she could be so lucky this time.
With a slow smile, she accepted the little offering. It did not hurt that he plied her with such pretty little compliments. Maybe she tried to remain unaffected by them, but they were still nice to hear.
Oberon, of course, was completely unimpressed and made his opinion known with an inelegant snort.
Maedoc's question, however, caught the gypsy by surprise. It was such an abrupt change of topic, and so frivolous. Perhaps he was tired of their heavy discussion, as well. "...the coast, I suppose," she said. Had she not been wondering earlier that very day why she had come here rather than Northport or some similar town? "I am fond of the sea. Why do you ask?"

He smiled indulgently and let his horse dance a bit beneath him as the mount sensed his excitement. A small part of him knew that he should be back on the hunt for his sister, but a much larger part reminded him that he had been searching for her for months. Palisade was enormous, and who was to say that she was even still there? His heartache had dulled, but it was still a constant pressure in his chest, one that didn't show any signs of dissipating. Was it wrong for him to be here now, and to ask the question on his lips?
Maybe. But he asked it anyway.
"Do you want to go there? Right now? You yourself said you were taking a break. Why not do it in your favorite place? The time of year is right for the traveling."
Oldcastle could provision them adequately enough, and he hoped to the gods that the travel would sate his fiery mount for a time. The damn horse was getting downright bitey.
"And," he admitted, staring into the darkness, "I've never seen the sea. I've been told its quiet a sight."

The gypsy's eyes widened with shock. Did he just ask her to run off with him? Of all the bold, impulsive, audacious things she had ever heard from virtual strangers, this had to top the list. But then, was impulsiveness really such a bad thing? Rajani used to be moved by her whims. It was only very recently in her life that she had started acting with purpose and planning, and where had that gotten her? Well, it wasn't really her lifestyle that had her fleeing Palisade like a coward, but it seemed that her life had only gotten harder since she had started taking on all of these responsibilities.
But that was neither here nor there.
She had to admit, the idea of running off with this man on a whim had its appeal. He had thus far proven interesting, charming, and surprising by turns, and if she were to be honest, he was not an unpleasant sight to behold. Even if his intentions were less than honest - though she did not think he was planning on pulling anything - Rajani was confident in her ability to defend herself. Besides, Oberon was sure to be keeping a close eye on him whether she wanted him to or not.
"You've never been to the sea?" she wondered, a hint of a smile returning to her lips. "We can't have that. I suppose I'll have to take you up on your offer. Show you some sights."

Maedoc tried to keep the pleasure from his face, but he wasn't sure if he succeeded. Casting Oberon a wary look, he said, "Good. I've always wanted to view the sea." A little voice in his head reminded him sternly of Soibhan and he felt a moment of frustrated grief. He should honestly still be looking for her, but he had been doing so for so long that he felt weary in more than just body. His soul hurt. While a part of him knew that his sister could most likely beat death by sheer stubbornness alone, another part of him questioned the likelihood of her survival, or that she was even still in the country if she had survived. The bandits could have taken her anywhere, though Palisade really was the best place for a black market slave trade. Sighing softly, he gestured back towards Oldcastle's town proper and gave Rajani a smile. "Shall we get some sleep then? We can provision in the morning." Nyx Argyros We can wrap this soooon. Maybe in your post. Also, I think in Northport, Raj should say something offhanded about Soi, maybe without even saying her name idk, that will trigger Maedoc into recognition. It might cut Raj's vacation a little...early >.> But not too early.

Rajani had been subject to enough internal conflict of her own to recognize the signs in others. Though she had no notion of what might be bothering her unexpected suitor, she knew enough to realize that he had troubles of his own. But then, who didn't? She was not about to go prying into his personal business. Not when she had no intention of airing her demons. Instead, she chose to ignore the little hint of melancholy and offer a smile of her own.
"I look forward to it. Goodnight, Maedoc." With that, Oberon turned and gladly took his chosen off to their own lodgings, keeping up a mental litany of all the reasons why this was a terrible idea. The gypsy, of course, ignored him.
