~~Dr. Favian Falk~~

Favian winced slightly as he walked away. At least he knew her name now. Rosalie...It suited her, beautiful and lithe as she was. He wished he hadn't said anything about the nurses and he mentally kicked himself in the face. Why? Agh! It's okay, you can fix this... Ahhh, I've got it!! With a plan in his head and a spring in his step he walked back into the medical tent and straight over to the corner patient.

"So Winston, I've got something you want if you can get me something I need... "

"Favian, my man, you always want something but this time it will cost you."

"Hey, you don't even know what I want yet. Besides I can pay up, you know I'm good for it."

"That's what you said the last time and I'm still waiting..."

"Yes well...about that." Favian covered his mouth and coughed to the side. "I'll get it for you, don't worry. Twice as much!"

"Alright then, you have yourself a deal... What do you need?"

"Now don't go making fun. I need shellac, super glue, floor wax and some pointe shoes."

The man's eyes hardened as he looked at Favian.
"I'm guessing not for yourself then... That's a first. What size is she?"

"Ahhh...size. Wait how'd you know it wasn't for me? Doesn't matter..."

Favian looked about him at all the nurses on duty and motioned to one replacing a man's bandage that was covering his eyes. She was the same height and build as Rosalie... It didn't matter though, he'd get as many pairs as he had too, until he got it right.

"Her size."

The man Winston looked over at the nurse and nodded. Favian grinned and stood up to leave but the man grabbed him by the arm, stopping him.

"I'll get it to you tonight, don't worry..."

The man let him go and Favian walked quickly from the tent before anyone else could stop him.

Rosalie slowed her steps slightly when she heard Edgar's voice again, asking her a question. She walked beside the two, little Batman between her and Edgar as they walked. He seemed to be totally occupied with his teddy at the moment, not a care in the world with where they were headed. She was a bit perplexed by his question and glanced over at him curiously before looking ahead again.
Is he new to the camp? she thought to herself, thinking on it a moment before she answered. She didn't think there was anyone new here, but everyone who had been here for a while already had living quarters and knew how things worked around here.

"Well, to be honest.. we're running low on food right now. But that's my job, along with a few others.. to make sure we stay stocked up." she said gently, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. Her hair seemed to have the same personality as it did in color, fiery and untamed. She glanced over at Edgar, then down at Jt, her lips forming into a soft smile as she watched him happily play as they walked. Oh how she wished to be that blissfully unaware of the world around her sometimes. "As far as shelter, haven't you been here for a while? Everyone should have been assigned a place to stay as soon as they came to camp." she said, watching him as he spoke to gain his reaction. There was no way he was new to camp, people were never let in here without some sort of commotion and she was pretty sure she'd seen him and JT around before.

As they continued to walk, Rose paused outside the clinic as the doc walked out, looking in a hurry to escape the clinic walls. She wasn't sure if he saw her or not, but her eyes followed him for a moment before she looked back to Edgar, leaning against a post outside the clinic.
"Well, this is my stop for now." she said gently, glancing between Edgar and JT as she leaned her back against the post. "My group should be here shortly to go out and find some supplies, actually, there comes one now." she said casually, motioning towards what was mostly the living quarters of the camp, where one of her roommates was walking from. She was one of the few that went out with her to find supplies to keep the camp alive.

Edgar stayed right behind her.

"Actually, we're not from here. We've been traveling. We were wondering if we could acquire some food, water, and shelter. We ain;t got much, but I do have my music..."

The only other skill he had was gardening, but that was useless now, as the radioactive soil hardly produced anything worthwhile.

"Well we've got room here, as long as you're willing to contribute." Rose said gently, watching JT sit on the ground and play with Teddy. She then glanced back up to Eddie, her eyes lighting up a bit as he mentioned his music. "Music? Do you play an instrument?" she asked curiously, her interest obviously peaked. There wasn't really anyone here musically inclined, other than the select few who could sing a bit. But the sound of an instrument was something she hadn't heard up close and personal since the war broke out. And if this man had an instrument with him and could actually play it well, she was dying to hear it. Even more, she was dying to dance to it. She wouldn't ever reveal her secret to let that happen however "I'm sure people around here could use a little music in their lives." she said gently, glancing back down at JT as he made his teddy dance around before looking back to Edgar. Her two toned eyes watched him intently, wanting to know more than anything if he actually had an instrument to play.

Edgar gave her a strange look, then thumbed towards the buitar case over his back.

"You didn't see the black guitar case?"

He gave her a lopsided smile.

"Well, we were distracted by my little brother. But yes, I play the guitar. Electric is my forte, but with little power left, I switched to acoustic. I learned to play on it, so it wasn't too much of a switch."

Rosalie laughed gently at herself when Edgar pointed to the guitar case on his back, smiling at her and asking if she had seen it. Grinning a bit sheepishly, she said
"Apparently I'm jut oblivious." She shrugged her shoulder and grinned before listening to what he said next, nodding in agreement to the fact that Little Batman must have been why she didn't notice the guitar. JT looked up at them and giggled, dancing around with Teddy and saying something about Batman before he went back to playing quietly. Rose's fingers twitched to see the guitar and hear it played and she even bit her lip lightly, wanting nothing more than to hear the music. "That's amazing, I was never very good with guitar myself. What's your favorite thing to play?" she asked casually, trying to get him to play something without directly asking. Her friend and roommate she had pointed out earlier came up and leaned beside Rosalie on the pillar, greeting her and the others with a short wave. She wasn't one to jump into conversation.

Rose listened to what Edgar said carefully, trying to see if she would know any of the songs that he listed. Country. It wasn't really her thing or something she loved to dance to, but she didn't hate it. And country songs always sounded lovely on an acoustic guitar. When he mentioned the song 'We Danced' however, she shifted her feet where she stood, remembering learning a dance to that back in high school. Her dance instructor wanted her to work with other genres, so she's worked with that song. She knew every step.

"We Danced is an amazing song. I used to listen to it all the time in high school." she said eagerly, like a young girl discovering something new or beautiful for the first time. She ran a hand through her amber locks and turned to her friend for a moment, who had tapped her on the shoulder. The spoke briefly about when they would be leaving, wondering where the rest of the scavenging party was. The conversation ended with her friend saying they'd wait a few minutes longer and she turned her attention back to Edgar, her eyes drifting to the guitar case strapped to his back.

~~Dr. Favian Falk~~

Favian walked down the dusty road quickly, his head forming a plan. He needed to get the stuff for Winston but stock was so tightly controlled around here that he wasn't sure if he could pull it off. Better yet, why was this girl who'd appeared out of nowhere driving him so crazy? It's the competition, it has to be. Though she sure is a beauty. He entered the building they'd met in the day before and bounded up the stairs. He looked about the dusty room and spotted a closet. He moved across to it to find a broom hidden inside. Without even thinking he started to clean the room, preparing it as best he could for his surprise, all the while thinking of a way to get the stuff he needed for Winston.

~~~~
It was twilight by the time he was finished and he moved down the stairs hurriedly. His plan ready to be put into action. It was a shame it had to go down like this, Winston was a great asset. Favian moved toward the medical tent and ducked inside. Only two nurses were on duty and all the patients were asleep. With great stealth he moved to Winston's side and shook him awake.
"Hey, I'm here. I've got the stuff you need. Did you come through for me?"
"Hand it over first..."
"You'll get it as soon as I leave with the directions. Enough now to give you the buzz and the rest to put you to 'sleep'."
Winston sighed with a heavy heart. This was no life for him he knew but he couldn't wait for the release he knew was coming.
"Alright Doc. The goods will be waiting for you in the usual spot. You know where to go. I guess it was nice doing business with you..."
Favian clasped the man's shoulder gently and gave him a sad smile. There really wasn't anything left for him to say.
"Thanks Winston, I couldn't have gotten this far without you."
With one last look at the dying man he moved to the closest nurse on duty and gave her his instructions. She gasped and nodded sadly looking over at Winston with pity in her eyes.
Favian left her to it. He didn't need to see it happen and Winston wasn't that kind of guy, who needed anyone there, though the nurse would have staid by his side.
He walked out of the tent with heavy shoulders. Is this worth it? Picking up the supplies from the rendezvous point, Favian looked about him as he made his way back to the ruined house. He was to highly strung to actually notice if anyone was watching him as he made his way inside and up the stairs. He pulled out the note he'd made earlier and sat it on top of his little gift before walking out, hoping she'd be along soon to find it.
~~~Gavin Napier~~~

Three times. It had been three times the building's floor went and collapsed out from under him in the time he'd searched. Only the first of those three times had there been flat concrete in the basement floor below, where he could tuck up and roll to survive the fall without anything more then scrapes and bruises. The other two times there were rough piles of half rotten timbers or bricks or other nastiness that he'd be lucky to get out of with a broken bone or two. Literally the only reason he was still here was because of one silly little precaution he'd taken.

Gavin had spotted the half-intact husk of some random department store or warehouse at the edge of his last run outside the camp. Which it was he couldn't tell, with no remaining signage on it between the howling winds and the apocalypse that had struck. He'd returned today to search it out, in the hopes it hadn't been picked clean. Getting there had been fairly simple, just scrambling over a few crashed cars and following the roadways, not even any animals to bother him on the trip over. And the doors, well, one dangled off it's upper hinge, the other lying covered in dust and dirt on the floor, the dust covering the inside of the place showing that at least nobody had used this door in some time. The upper floor seemed mostly empty, with a few collapsed shelving units near the walls, mostly fallen against the walls. All along the place sat thick pillars of presumably stone or concrete, to support the roof. Portions of the roof had already collapsed, but the pillars were still in solid shape. Walking over to one and glancing around the inside, it looked like the place was basically empty. Odds were he'd find nothing they could use beyond possibly taking the metal supports of those shelves. And that wasn't what they needed now. They had built their little camp, but they just didn't have the supplies to feed everyone there for much longer. He was already venturing further out then they had considered 'safe' when they had started these searches, because they'd cleaned out everything within that defined range. No rain, and soil that couldn't support crops... They were just lucky they'd managed to find a radiation free area. Or rather light... Nowhere was completely free of the stuff anywhere he'd been.

But before he started towards those shelves, something tickled the back of his head. Why, how, he wasn't sure, but something just gave him the slightest feeling of 'off'. Specifically, the building had weathered all of this, but it just didn't seem entirely stable. What gave him the tip off to that? He wasn't entirely sure, but it wasn't like it was too hard to keep himself a little safer from. A few smacks and hits on the stone pillar next to him resulted in exactly nothing, so he let his compact automatic rifle dangle from a strap off of one shoulder as he slung around his pack, digging through it until he found the bundle of nylon cord inside, the random results of someone else's scavenging. He tied one end around the pillar and the other around himself, putting on a thick, rough palmed glove around one hand, and gripping the cord, letting it slide through the hand as he began investigating, keeping the bundle with him. So when the floor suddenly collapsed under him, he squeezed down hard as he swung his other hand around, managing to stop the fall before he got too far into the depths of the basement, and haul himself up. Say one thing for it, the end of the world was a great way to force you into shape.

By the third time, after climbing out, he carefully retraced his steps back, both hands and arms burning a bit. He wasn't so sure he could pull himself out if it happened again. About all he got for his efforts was a crowbar from the only shelving unit he'd managed to reach. Not like crowbars were bad, but they had several at the camp. Oh well, someone would find a use for another, he was sure. He already had one, as he untied the cord from the pillar, and left the building. A few gouges into the faded paint next to the door and there was a nice little sideways T there. He'd tell the other scavengers when he got back to avoid the warehouse with that gouged out of the paint to the right of the door. Then, with a look into the sky and a look to his water, he decided that was about it for this trip out. He was close to dangerously low on water here, and in the sun and heat around here, running out without being within sight of the camp was as good as death. And what had he found? A few canned foods squirreled away in a corner somewhere in a building, probably left by some other over-eager scavenger, and this crowbar. That was it. And from what he'd heard, most of the others pickings weren't much better. Most were actually worse, some people forced back empty handed days in a row.

Enough of a walk to mostly empty out the water bottle with him, he finally get to the gates of the camp, waving to the guy on watch, and turning his head up to the sun for the guy to see who he was. Couldn't be too careful with that since the time someone who hadn't belonged here had walked right in and tried to take some of their supplies. The sheet metal gate was pulled open for him, and he walked in, pulling the cap from his head he wore to keep the sun out of his eyes with a sigh.

"Welcome back, Gavin. did you find anything big out there?" The almost standard question. The gate people almost always asked it, and your response was the same they got from many other's as you shook your head.

"Unfortunatly not. Managed to find a few cans of assorted vegetables I think, and a crowbar that's still in pretty good shape." He said, which just got a sigh as the guy climbed back up the gate, and he went on in to the camp, covered in dust and a long hooded cloak, with the bulk around the shoulders contributed by some thick pads of Kevlar scavenged from ruined parts of vests after they'd found the police station, empty of everything but those. He wondered if anyone else had had any luck, or would, since they went out sporadically. Hadn't he heard something about several people planning on going out soon as a group? Not something he objected too, but nobody had been available when he left to go out there, and a massive symbol like that warehouse wouldn't have remained unpillaged forever.

Dance is the hidden language of the soul.

A wide grin broke out on Rosalie's face when Edgar offered to play for her, unable to contain the excitement as it spread from her lips to her eyes.
"I would love to hear you play sometime. I'm not going to ask you to break out the guitar right here and now though, I'm getting ready to go find supplies for a while. But if you're still up for it when I get back, I'd love to hear a song." she said happily, the smile not fading from her face. Her roommate that stood beside her just shook her head, laughing slightly to herself. She knew nothing of Rose's dancing, but everyone who knew her knew she loved music. She hated to have to wait to hear it until another time, but she did have a job to do and she'd been putting it off long enough already with everything that had happened with his brother and the whole little dance incident earlier.

She then turned to her friend who was waiting patiently and asked
"Are you ready to go head out for a bit? Probably can't be out too long, it's bound to get dark soon." she said thoughtfully, glancing to the town gate before looking back to her roommate, Lily. Lily nodded and shifted to get her pack ready, slinging it over her back. Rosalie turned to Edgar with a smile, than down to JT, ruffling his hair playfully. "See ya' later kid." she said with a smile, watching as JT giggled and tried to fix his messy hair, waving bye to her with his teddy in hand. She then returned her gaze to Edgar, nodding at him and saying gently "I hope to see you sometime later then, I'll probably be back hanging around the clinic in a few hours." She grinned and ran a hand through her fiery locks before slinging her pack over her back and patting her pocket to make sure her pocket knife hadn't escaped her. Turning on her heels, her and Lily headed for the town gates to see what they could find that day.

Getting closer, Rosalie spotted someone she already knew, and had been out looking for supplies with once or twice before. He seemed to prefer to go out on his own however. The closer they got as they walked, Rose could tell he was injured. Pretty badly by the looks of it.
"Hey, Gavin.. you alright? Were you just out looking for supplies?" she called out to him, her colorful eyes trained on him. Her and Lily stopped when they reached him, which was just a few feet or so in front of the gate. He seemed beat up pretty badly by the looks of it, but it also looked like he had at least been relatively successful with his scavenging. "What happened to you?" she asked bluntly, not trying to be rude, but simply wondering what had happened out there that made him look so ragged once he returned. "And maybe you should get to the clinic.." she suggested softly, her eyes scanning over his wounds. She bit her lip gently as she waited for his response, curious to what he had gotten himself into out there. She knew a lot of buildings were likely to collapse in on themselves due to the wear and tear from the war, which was mainly why she never went out alone. She could only imagine that was what had happened to him, but she didn't make assumptions and just waited patiently for him to tell his story.

~~~Gavin Napier~~~
He tugged down his cloak hood as he began walking in to the camp, the thing all gashed up, in several places, as his eyes glanced around to take in the camp again. Poverty, desolation, people scraping out a living as best they could by their trades. Good old David up above, fiddling with the massive water collecting frame they had rigged up over part of the camp on the ridiculously unlikely odds that somehow it would rain out here in this desert. The thing had to be kept clean from the irradiated dirt or they could just end up with lots of undrinkable radioactive water, but one short speech from the man about how much water it could collect from half an hour of light rain and nobody objected anymore. It was a hassle, but compared to how much hastily spread out buckets and other containers would catch, the amount of work would pay off in dividends if it rained. If it didn't, well, looking up at it made a lot of the people hopeful, and hope was more valuable then gold had ever been around here. Supposedly it was secret, but honestly pretty much everyone but the children knew just how bad the supply shortage was. Low on even the dirty, possibly irradiated water they had managed to scavenge up once or twice from puddles, low on food... They simply couldn't sustain themselves. No rain, no way to grow craps in the radioactive, dry soil, they had no way to replenish their most basic needs.
His gaze lowered from the rain collector up above as he heard a familiar voice call his name, to see two of those people who risked the wasteland sometimes as scavengers as well heading his way. Rosalie and... Lily, that was it. He saw Rosalie from time to time, but Lily not as often. "Oh, hey there Rosalie. Yes, I was. I saw a warehouse last time I was out, or maybe a department store, I'm not sure which, the signage was gone. It looked in pretty good shape, considering, so I went out today to investigate it. Stopped by a half-destroyed gas station and snagged some canned food some other scavenger must have dropped on their way through. I got to the warehouse without any trouble, and went to look around. I got a bad feeling when I went inside, so I tied a cord around a intact pillar. Good thing. The floor looked fine, but parts of it crumbled under my weight with no warning. Glad I brought that cord along or that last one probably would have killed me..." He shook his head to snap out of the rather vivid memory, smiling a bit at Rosalie to try to avert some of that worry. "About all I got out of there was a crowbar, although it was in pretty good shape. I don't think there is much else there, nothing worth the danger of that floor. I gouged a sideways T to the right of the door, so if you go finding a warehouse, look for that." He looked down at the messed up cloak, lifting one arm under it. "It looks worse then it is, the cloak took the brunt of everything, and the armor took most of the rest." He unpinned the cloak, and slung it off himself. Underneath the Kevlar improvised vest was mostly intact, the light metal plates over the front and back of the torso with a few scratches in them. Everything major seemed to have hit that, with just his arms and legs with a couple of scratches in them. "Oops. Looks like I spoke a little too soon. Guess I should head to the clinic." He said with a chuckle, although that was more sarcastic then anything. Scabbed up cuts out in this? They were gonna rip them open with those little disposable brushes they had tons of from the lucky hospital search and bathe them in the alcohol they also had a decent bit of, and it was going to hurt like hell because it always did now. Not sure why, maybe the dehydration and low calorie diet, but his pain threshold had lowered somewhat, so everything seemed to hurt more.
Rosalie smiled up at Gavin when he greeted her, listening intently to what Gavin had to say. Lily, on the other hand, seemed to decide she had something better to do than scavenging today - since Rose kept making her wait - and whispered something to Rose before walking away. Rosalie just sighed a bit as her roommate walked off, obviously annoyed that she kept being friendly with everyone. Rose shook it off however and returned her full attention to Gavin. The only thing she had really missed was the bit about the gas station. Her eyes filled with concern as Gavin talked about falling through the floor, scanning over his body to see if she could detect any major wounds. She always hated to hear about others getting hurt, especially if they were doing something to try to help the rest of the community. Everyone undervalued the scavengers, which made no sense to her since they were the town's only source of food.
She didn't have time to get a word in as Gavin gave his story, so she just nodded during most of it, the concern on her face enough. When he mentioned that he gouged a T in the side of the warehouse, she made a mental note to do that in the future before saying
"Good thing you thought to bring that cord... from the sounds of it you could still be out in that warehouse." The thought shook her a bit, but in all honestly she was trying to make a point that Gavin really shouldn't be going on his own. If he had and something had happened, he was as good as dead. However, she wasn't about to actually say that to him since she was just about to go out on her own now that Lily had ditched her out of annoyance. That girl just had a horrible temper. Wasn't exactly a people person either.
When he showed her his wounds however - which were a mixture of fresh cuts and old ones - she just grinned at him, shaking her head a bit. Gavin seemed to be the kind of guy that let his wounds go and heal on their own. Not the type to go to the clinic. She couldn't decide why he did it. Whether he was trying to be tough, save resources, or avoid the pain of getting those injuries treated, she just wasn't sure.
"Alright, well, if you don't go to the clinic, at least clean those out a bit, ok?" she said with another grin, although she was being totally serious. They could get infected if he didn't try to take care of them. The idea of her cut up feet and the infections she'd gotten from improper care in the past came to mind and she wiggled her toes, glancing down at them for a moment before she looked back up to Gavin.
"I'm going to head out now and see what I can find. Lily got fed up with waiting for me and went back.. she's cranky." Rose said, laughing gently and shaking her head. Lily was a nice enough person, but she just irked her sometimes. "But anyways, which direction did you go today? I'll go see what I can find the other way." she said, watching Gavin for a response. She didn't plan on being out long, but she did want to get out and do it today, so she hoped he's just let her know so she could get going.
In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords
But now we've stepped into a cruel world
Where everybody stands and keeps score
He chuckled a bit morbidly as Rosalie said it was a good thing he'd thought to bring that cord. "The cord's one of the things I've started carrying a lot. Surprising the good things you can do with a length of nice strong cord, since most of our rope is taken up elsewhere." He said. And it was true, he kept a few random knickknacks like that he kept on him as a sort of kit. The cord was the most obvious one, but he was considering nabbing this crowbar on a permanent basis, since there were lots of uses for a long piece of metal with a hook built to pry nails and stuff out of walls. That grin she gave him once he showed her the fairly minor scratches with the head shaking brought a slight smile to his face in return. "Oh, definetly. I'm about as keen on getting an infection out here as the next guy." He said. He'd gotten very lucky on that front, in his time scavenging out there alone before he'd found other survivors, his odd immune system thankfully working for him, fighting off everything that came his way until he found the sterile supplies he needed to tend and clean his wounds. Somehow, he had the strangest knack for fighting off lots of sickness and infection, no matter how serious. But every now and then, it just failed. Before all of this, it'd lay him out for days with weakness and a nasty fever if he was lucky. Now though? Who knew how bad it might get, and it was simply much harsher out here... The sick had a lower recovery rate and recovered slower even when they did, and until then, they became even more of a liability then before, and lost their skill sets to boot... Losing any more scavengers at this pace could be a lot more serious then the already major issue of them possibly dying.
"I'll be heading to the clinic. It hurts like hell, especially lately, but I'd rather that then be layed up for a week or more with some stupid infection... I went out to the north." He said, gesturing to the northern part of the camp like it was really necessary. Force of habit he supposed. somehow not everyone in the camp had learned their cardinal directions based on the sun for a while. They must not have been paying attention much at all growing up. It wasn't an issue anymore, but it had been ingrained a bit. "Good luck on your scavenging. And Rosalie? Thanks for the concern. And come back safe." He said. Sure, usually he didn't get quite that concerned when others left, even alone, but his thoughts had been shifted to the razors edge their camp was on, and he was concerned. Maybe for a big overarching fate thing, but also for the individuals. He was graced with an obscene amount of good luck, and he knew it. Other's weren't so lucky... And he didn't want any more sack cloth body bags or whispers of disappearances out in that desert. He offered her a hand to shake, on her way out. Maybe most people didn't care so much about what they did out their when they scavenged, but they both knew how nasty it was out there. He had a major respect for each and every person that dared venture out more then once. That first time, curiosity, a dare, whatever. Going out again though, that took guts, once you realized just how bad it was. Then he blinked as he remembered something, sliding a hand behind him and taking out a small box. "Here, you should take this with you. It's my Geiger Counter. I think one of the bombs detonated upwind that way." Another treasure of a find, this one not by him, the camp had three of these things that had small little hand cranks on their backs. You could juice up their batteries indefinitely with those. The range wasn't great, but even the smallest warning saved lives out there. They didn't "belong" to anyone, but two of them just naturally went in and out with scavengers, especially to dangerous area's like places where fallout was likely to have hit.
