...Before Chance was close enough to open the door, it was opened by another, a man wearing a long coat and an alarmed expression. He shouted something while reaching for an object unknown... He's pulling a weapon?!

Fionna's body acted the moment this thought entered her mind - she charged the man, intending to tackle him, and shouted her first words since arriving in this odd place, "Ektol dal Kh'amarr!!" This unintelligible phrase is a command directed at her mystic chains, words of power meant to demonstrate why they're "mystic" in the first place. As she was charging the detective, black chains surged from the assassin's cloak, aiming to bind the detective's legs together. It's actually an incredibly simple matter for him to move out of the way and overpower Fionna, since she's physically weaker than him and is definitely not thinking clearly, but if he doesn't and the chains reach him, then surely he'll be on the ground with a dagger to his throat....

* [[ The chains don't do anything except try to bind things when Chance commands them to, and she has nothing else in the way of unique abilities - well, other than being an assassin. ]]

"Ektol dal Kh'amarr!!" The Detective heard the hooded girl say "What...." as chains flew towards him dodging the first chain. ignoring his revolver just trying to stay on his feet. the movement reminded him of a dance he had with his gal ,Darcy, which distracted him for just long enough for a chain to latch to one of his shoes. Bringing him to a knee, he discarded the shoe as the other chain latched to the shoe looking up at the girl noticing the blade "Wha.. what do you want" raising his hands above his shoulders

While her attempt to subdue him was sloppy, she decided that since he might have taken the "hint," as it were, she whispered something and the chains retract from the detective. She also lowers her blade, though her gaze remains leveled.

"Tell me where we are" is the demand she seemingly makes to no one in particular.

Umbraja continued to watch the vampire warily as an odd man wandered up to their little group. She listened to the conversation between her helpful robot pal and this newcomer then started to cut in at the last that, "Well, actually. . . time is a bit wibbly wobbly around here so it's not a. . . yeah. . ." she trailed off, sparing the man a glance as he wandered away to follow the siren's call of the music room piano. "Oh gez. . . not again," Umbraja huffed with a shake of her head but hesitated a moment, throwing one last look at the meek little vampire before patting Duo's shoulder with a nod for him to follow as she started after the detective.

"Don't listen too close to that," she warned as she pulled a pair of fluffy headphones from her bag and plopped them over her ears but the ghostly tune turned out not to be the only threat behind the music room door. Umbraja spat a curse when a blur of cloak and chains lashed out to catch the detective in front of her. On a reflex of her own she drew her machete but didn't swing it, just held it defensively as she attempted to step between the attacker and the poor man.

"Whoa, now~" she called out to the both of them. "Settle down, kids. We're not having a fight this early." She gave the attacker a stern look then shook her head at their echoed questions.

"You're in the Academy," she answered in a much gentler tone. "It's a safe place so you can put up the weapons. The both of you," she gave them each a glance. "This," she waved at the room from whence the assassin had leapt, "Is our Music Room. It's a bit haunted so I'd not suggest lingering here when the piano is playing. You can get yourself sucked into the Other World that way." She made a little shooing motion to encourage the others to move so she could close the door and dampen the piano's sound.

At that point, Fionna's offense had ceased already, so it was no trouble for her to stow her dagger into some unseen portion of the patchwork robe she wears. This odd one that resembled a fabled sorcerer of her realm was not one to anger - not only was this one familiar with the place, but was even nice enough to provide a warning. ...And had a machete. ...And looked dangerous with it.

The frozen tone of her voice earlier would warm over a bit as she attempted to gather her thoughts. Asking who this person is would be a waste of time because the information wouldn't make an inch of difference, but what is this "Other World" that others might be sucked into? ...To suddenly mention being sucked into distant worlds is more than enough for the assassin to realize that she wasn't in her own. With this annoying possibility, an obvious question worth getting an answer to had been revealed.

"Sucked into another world, said you? ...Is that a one-way trip?"

As she asked this, Fionna threw back the hood of her cloak, revealing enough black hair that she might as well have never taken it off.

Duo looked back at the vampire sympathetically, before he followed behind Umbraja. He didn't feel bad for her, he just didn't want to seem like they disliked her. The bag he was carrying on his shoulder was squirming and trying to break free, but he didn't seem to notice. Until it kicked him in the face. At that point, he flipped the bag over the other way and carried it upside down.

As they walked into the music room, a fight had started to break out. Duo had impulsively taken a step forward, but took it back as Umbraja seemed to calm the others down. "The... Other World?" Duo asked, a confused expression crossing his face as she spoke about another world.

Talia shrugged at his apology. Having rusty elvish was as good an excuse as any, she supposed. She listened to his explanation closely, but still didn't hear a name - was he being dodgy, or just not saying anything? From the look on his face (and the way he was dressed), Talia assumed that it was the latter. At least he wasn't really important. I'd feel so embarrassed not knowing him if he was. The half elf nodded as he finished speaking, mostly satisfied by his response.

"Actually, I do have a question," she replied, her tone light. Perhaps the answer was obvious, but she always had been one to look before she leapt. Talia laughed awkwardly for a second before asking, "What exactly did I sign up for?"

Adelaide simply nodded. She was aware that vampires were freaks. She looked at the girl, " Yes I am a vampire, but I am not allowed in sunlight much less to sparkle. " She giggled at the thought of a sparking vampire. She only hoped that her giggling wasn't making the girl think she was laughing at her.

Unfortunately, Adelaide had gotten left behind in the wake of other events but she could still see the growing group down the hall standing around the now closed music room door and, with her vampire senses, she could still hear their conversation as well as the muted notes of the haunted piano.

"Really?" Umbraja huffed a little laugh, quirking a brow at Duo for repeating the newcomer's question. "Now, I understand these two not knowin' such a thing having just fallen through a breach to get here it looks like but I thought you knew your way around," she drawled with a teasing tone then shook her head. "Honestly, what are they teaching around here," the woman gave a slight huff before straightening her shoulders a bit and turning a serious look on Fionna.

"Oh, it is a one way trip, girlie. Very much so unless you're lucky enough to find yer way back. And few ever do. You see, it's not really just one other world out there, it's," she paused briefly to hold up a hand and draw it out in front of her in a dramatic gesture as she continued, "thousands possibly even millions. And you ain't got a map," She flashed a grin then shook her head. "You see, the Academy's sittin' on rip in space and time. It lets us take in students from all over but. . . well, there's the occasional hazard of possibly fallin' through a breach and ending up gods know where." She offered a little shrug as if that wasn't a terrifying prospect. "Probably how you got here. Fell through a hole somewhere I bet."

The White Dressed being was a surprised to him "I hope this isn't another trick" he thought "another world you say, well ill be dipped in coffee" he said rising to his feet "so an academy, like a school for the gifted?" he asked

turning to the hooded girl "sorry about all this sweetheart, I didn't know who you are" retrieving his shoe from where the chains were "that's a neat trick you have there" complimenting her

Turning to the pale man "forgive me Sonnie I forgot to get your name" putting out his hand the other grasping his shoe

"Ha. . . uoh. . . of course you would ask that," the man huffed a laugh that trailed off into a mutter, dropping his eyes from the girl with a frown at the paper and dragging a hand through the back of his hair a bit awkwardly. He considered a moment before shaking his head with a shrug and turning another sorry smile on the girl. "Tell you the truth, I wasn't told. All I know is that there's something planned and we need names for it. I can tell you there's going to be prizes so I'm hoping it's some sort of raffle but. . . knowing this place, it's probably a lot more complicated than that," he paused with a tiny frown then shook his head. "Sorry. I can answer any other questions you've got," the man flashed a friendly smile then held out a hand for her to shake. "Name's Vay, by the way. 'Fraid I skipped that part earlier."

Duo tilted his head as Umbraja said that he should know about the other world. Or rather, multiple worlds. He searched his memory while she spoke, finding that such information wasn't in his memory banks. It was entirely possible that it got deleted accidentally, but it didn't matter, as he now had the information.

A hand was extended in his direction, as well as a question. Duo took the man's hand, shaking it with less force than he had for Umbraja. "Uh, Duo." He said, releasing his grip.

"I see."

As one might expect, Chance is not familiar with the concept of "space-time," but does understand now that she's here by some strange twist of fate. If that's the case, then her "target" before now was saved by chance before he could be killed by Chance. Under her mask, Fionna restrained herself from grinning at how witty that was. ...Or more accurately, she fools herself into believing there was any wit in play at all.

After hearing the Detective's apology, however, her almost-mirth faded as soon as it had come. "You still don't," she spat before turning her attention back to the odd woman who seems to know what she's talking about. "So this... academy... depends on cosmic accidents to attract students?" Fionna's sass conveys her irritation about as politely as she's capable of at the moment.

"Hah, wonder what that says for anyone hoping for a scholarship...."

Seriously? Even a professor, however removed he was from the school, didn't know what was going on? Talia was slightly ticked off, but she didn't let herself stay upset for long. It was so typical of this school to keep everyone in the dark, and then spring things on them when they least expected it. "Well, at least there are prizes," she said, half in an attempt to get herself excited for whatever was coming and half to console herself over the fact that she may have just signed up for a super-mega-monster-death-match. But prizes... that made it at least a little better.

"Nice to meet you, Mr Vay." Talia replied, returning the smile and shaking his hand. Did one call emeritus professors 'Mister'? ... Or just by the name that they gave? She didn't really know, and hoped that it was proper. This place's conventions on names baffled her sometimes, even though she had been around for a few months. "Just one more question, I guess. Are the prizes any good?" Her tone was slightly more excited at the mention of prizes - ones that she didn't have to steal, at that!

"Well. . ." Umbraja drawled a bit at the detective's question with a bit of a shrug. "Not excatly for the gifted but, yes. A school at least," she answered simply then arched a brow when the man turned between the others but the cloaked girl asked a question of her own so she offered a smile and shake of her head.

"Oh, no. We don't rely on Fate, horribly unreliable b***h that one is. We can invite people here and the staff and faculty have keys to go between worlds if we need to," she pulled a simple looking brass key from under her shirt where it hung on a leather chord around her neck and held it up for the girl to see. "At least they used to. . ." she trailed off a bit with a curious glance around. "I've not seen any of the others since I got back." She cast a glance to Duo and the sack over his shoulder as if just remembering it was there. "I was actually just looking for one of them. The old Groundskeeper," she smiled between the assassin and the detective. "I'd wager y'all don't know where he is either but maybe you could help me find him. I'm sure my buddy here would like to get rid of that snarling bag there," she gave Duo a pat on the shoulder with a wry grin that was at once cocky and pleading for the others' help.
