Alexin was so pumped. SO PUMPED. Sledging, he’d told himself, was just like riding Splitch. After all, they were white and huge and sometimes cold if they’d been out in the rain. So he was going to kick it at this event, and also because his team was BLATANTLY THE BEST. Yes, Alexin was definitely thinking in big capital letters and multiple exclamation points today. Now, our little prospective champion (at least in his head) did plenty of reading – which meant the advertisements for the ARS-2 had been seen more than once. He’d never invested in the sled because well, the forest didn’t really offer too many rolling hills free of trees. Or any hills free of trees for that matter. But anyway, we digress – Alexin went straight for the Mark 3.

Nervit waited, well, nervously! Her fingers, donned in hand-knitted mittens, scrunched the bottom of her wooly dress. Bloodfest was full of large, loud (definitely loud) and above all higher-blooded people. To be fair, the latter wasn't hard, as Nervit was the second lowest 'rung', so to speak. But despite all these nerves, Nervit found herself strangely determined. Rough, unformed thoughts spoke about proving herself, even about winning! But consciously all she was aware of was nerves. As they approached the sleds in groups, the little orangeblood went straight for the neon orange sled. Not out of blood pride, or anything like that – frankly, it simply looked the /safest/.

Name: Alexin Flynnt
Blood colour: Blue! (See, it even has the B, for BEST!)
Submission:

Written on a curling scroll of thick parchment sealed with a ribbon from which hangs a bag of candy ashen leaves, the blue-inked words are done in careful calligraphy. Someone it seems has spent a lot of time on this project. Of course, time doesn't necessarily equal SKILL, and there's plenty of ink blotches, blobs and the occasional backwards or poorly-formed letter that suggests that skill was a little bit lacking. There are delicate flowers curving round the top and bottom of the scroll, above and beneath the poem itself. As for the words, they read as such - full of heart, if not skill :

Hatred burns like blackest pitch ; I want to scratch it like an itch
But like a scab if I pick I will bleed blue ; it's not a good idea to pitch with you
so comes finned grace ; a savior in place
I hate you but I hate them too ; pitch fades to ashen hue
A trio now including me ; such beautiful serendipity.

Quote:

The starting gun fires! Let the race begin!

If you picked option 1):
You eventually figure out how to hunker down on the sled without hurting yourself, and right out of the starting gate you find that the blades on either side of your sled have come in handy. Controlling the mighty bladed beast is troublesome, but watching other trolls careening off of the street as they try to avoid bodily harm makes for quite the convenient perk! Gain one point.

If you picked option 2):
Oh, Ol' Trusty... You knew you could count on Ol' Trusty! The rope reins feel very familiar in your hands. You know exactly how to kick off, brake and swerve to avoid certain dangerous opponents with ease due to your familiarity with the sled. Even though your rump could stand to be more comfortable, you can't complain too much with your sizable lead! Gain two points!

If you picked option 3):
Vroom, vroom, VRRRRRRR!!! VRRRrrr - sputter, gork frrkfgg....

That's the sound of the rocket on the back of your sled becoming a big dead weight. Managing the sled becomes much more of a hassle now that the assumed advantage is gone and all that's left is the A.R.S-3's bright red, spiky pizazz. Pizazz doesn't win races though, and you've got some ground to make up if you want to get back in the game! Lose two points.

If you picked option 4):
Your bright and colorful disk makes you a gleaming beacon, and unfortunately, an obvious target for hecklers and other racers who have a bone to pick with your apparent love of circular sliding devices. Everything's going great until you get pelted by - was that a snowball? And hit by - hey, no fair! And bite the snow. The disk demands vengeance! Lose one point.

Next Choice:

The first hill was pupa's play compared to this bad boy. The street ahead is extremely steep, but it's covered in fresh snow - what dangers could lie beneath? There may be unfinished construction work, road clutter or other traps underneath the nearly untouched carpet of whiteness. To your left, however, appears to be a detour through a residential area that looks well traveled and safe. And on your right, there's a huge gaping hole. Construction drones have cleared some infrastructure over there, so the path won't be as familiar but may contain a valuable shortcut. What path do you take?

1) Go straight ahead! The most direct route is the best route, after all - dangers be damned!
2) Take the residential detour... Better safe than sorry!
3) Take the construction shortcut - there's a shortcut here, you're sure of it!
4) Get off of your sled and walk down the hill. Sledding is overrated, anyway.

Perhaps Hazzan was feeling overly confident after such an easy first hill, but the steep street ahead didn't scare her at all! With a might WHOOP, she steered her sled straight ahead. Such a steep hill meant she'd pick up lots of speed, right? And lots of speed meant she'd be in a better position to win! (Safety? What the hell was safety? Hazzan had no care for the concept.)

[Wallas]

Wallas sighed grumpily. The snow had slowed him down significantly. As a troll used to the Chittentown heat, this cold was really taking a toll. The first hill had been sort of a bust, and this hill didn't look like it'd be any better. It seemed as though there would be multiple paths to take for this one; the area with the construction piqued his interest. If there was anything Wallas was good with, it was navigating construction (...maybe?). Surely he'd be able to find a decent shortcut through the cleared area... maybe. As usual, Wallas was second-guessing himself. Sure, the construction area seemed like the best bet, but was it really? With a shrug and a mumbled "I guess," he got to sledding.

[Dairah]

"Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh!"

Dairah screamed as her cart of goods rolled down a snowy hill and crashed into the side of a building. The ice and snow had been giving her so much trouble with this thing... if she didn't know better, she'd say it had a mind of its own. She was hoping to make a little extra scratch here at Bloodfest; surely someone would want to buy some refreshing Moobeast milk? The colder weather meant she only had stored crops to sell, but surely they'd be as good as her usual fresh produce. She couldn't quite do it with her cart slipping everywhere, though...

Oh, right. Sledding. She came to try some of that out, too. Scanning the area, she noticed the relative safeness of the residential area's detour. That might be a better way to go than the gaping hole. And going straight down? Eeep! The sled would go way too fast, and who knew what could spring up from under the snow? So the detour it was.

Mili was extremely behind, worse than it seemed than the other trolls who zipped ahead leaving her in a pile of snow. Coughing, the mute troll furrowed her brows and took off behind them. After what seemed forever (a few minutes) she met the next obstacle. What or where did she go? Going straight across the pristine snow seemed a wise idea, but there could be unknown dangerous beneath that benevolent sheet. Going into the resident district seemed the safest, but that was most ssuredly going to take a long time.

Then there was that other option... The one with the giant hole. Nibbling on her lower lip, Mili swished towards the road. There had to be a shortcut here, something that would help her win for sure!

Whatever reservations Sinter had had regarding the snow were long gone once he took a step back to admire his now-enormous snowball. With a scrutinizing gaze aimed at his work, he leaned on one foot, then the other. Yep! That's gotta be a pretty perfect sphere right there!

I chose option # : 1
My score is: (-1 from missed round)

Eostre loved savage sports like these, and knew if she was diligent (and a bit violent, as always) she could come out on top in this sledding race. Bundled up well in her coats, she made her way across the white sheet of snow in a straight line down with her sled. Everyone knew the quickest way between two points was a straight line, and she was ready to take on any obstacle! Speed was what counted the most here, even if you take a spill, if you're the fastest, you can make up for lost time.

Cerise loved the thrill of danger, and easily made her choice. The shortcut through the construction would pay off even if it seemed very precarious. Quick was what was the most important thing, and everyone knew that, right?! Sharp teeth grinning, she pushed off towards the construction's hole with maniacal glee. Cerise was sure to win this race!
