Jordun was correct in his assumption that his words were not particularly comforting. There was no way of knowing if there was something wrong with her bond. Conversely, she could at least take heart in the knowledge that there was not anything immediately and obviously wrong, per say. There again, the not knowing might have been worse than knowing for certain. At least if she knew, that would be that. As it stood, she could only be plagued by uncertainty.
Yet here he was telling her that she should embrace this already overpowering sensation. How could she hope to do that? It was already terrifying. What if it got worse instead of better? Eliza knew that she was not particularly brave. Indeed, she was rather timid. How could she hope to face this thing head on?
All her life, she had dreamed of an all-consuming love, one to weather all trials, yet now that she had found one, it was nothing like what she had imagined. Where she had hoped to find a man as the other half of her soul, she had instead found a Guardian deer demanding her unwavering devotion. She did not know whether to laugh of cry. Either would doubtless lead to hysterics.
"How can I?" she wondered. "I am not brave. I cannot imagine why he chose me. I am meant to marry and live a quiet, uneventful life." There was no room for such a frightfully passionate Guardian in her world.

"Perhaps that is why he chose you," Jordun answered with a smile. Perhaps her Guardian had known somehow that Miss Winfield need more of that frightful passion in her life, that marrying and living quietly was less than she deserved. She had something special in her that no doubt only her Guardian had seen, that perhaps even she hadn't discovered yet. Whatever little stag came out of that totem had a job to do and wouldn't hesitate to do it.
"I was never brave myself, Miss Winfield," he added. "I would argue even now that I am not full of courage. But with Idriss, there are many things I do that I would not have done before." The little doe was more than an emotional rock in his life. He was stronger because of her, if for no other reason than that she was always there to remind him that he could be and that she was there to share whatever mental load he might take on.
"You have him now," Jordun said, gesturing to the totem that he had yet to fully see. "He will take care of you, unimaginable as it may seem now. But you do have to let him."

Eliza stared at him with wide doe eyes and wondered if what he said could be true. Was he meant to make her more than what she was? In the spirit of honesty, she could not deny that she had wished more than once that she possessed even half the courage or grace or boldness that any of her sisters could boast. She had dreamed that she had the wherewithal to stand up to her father or deny her sisters or look strangers fearlessly in the eye when they thought to speak of her. Yet she could not imagine how the presence of another being in her life - even a Guardian spirit - could stir such change in her. It seemed wholly unlikely.
Still, those words gave her enough strength, at least, to pull the totem from her pocket and set it on the table. He truly was a handsome creature, if nothing else. Of course, the troublemakers often were. Judging by his looks alone, he would be a handful; and that was not even accounting for the well of emotion that he seemed incapable of stoppering. Jordun said that he was meant to take care of her, yet...
"I rather suspect it will be the other way around." Dardanos was one thing, but she had seen a young Guardian, as well. He had certainly needed quite a bit of training up.

"For a while, perhaps," Jordun conceded, leaning forward to study her totem. And he didn't doubt there were ways to improperly handle a fawn. But they had to be called Guardians for a reason, and Jordun was convinced their protective nature would win one way or another. That wasn't to say, of course, that certain Guardians didn't have very peculiar ways of expressing their attachment to their chosen, but that was nothing Miss Winfield needed to hear right now. "But he'll grow."
Idriss had been quite the troublemaker as a fawn. All in good fun, but her antics had made her very difficult to hide from his father. That they had gone so many years without his finding out was a minor miracle in and of itself.
"My, but he is handsome," Jordun said as Idriss poked her nose forward to investigate. She touched her nose to it, and a quizzical look came over her face as she tried to determine its nature. So... strange, so... fickle, even? As if it couldn't quite make up its mind. Her fluffy ears swiveled forward then flopped back as she poked the totem again and gave Jordun a look that said, so confused!
"If you have any close friends with experience raising a Guardian, you can always ask their help," Jordun added, smiling at his Guardian's reaction. "It never hurts to have some guidance." Especially if she thought the fawn might prove difficult.

Despite all odds, this conversation had helped to lessen at least some of her fears, though it could hardly erase them. How much more difficult could it be to raise a Guardian as opposed to any other animal? Well, if Eliza thought that it was much the same, she would be fooling herself, and well she knew it. But perhaps some of the basic principles were the same. Really, she knew herself capable of rearing a young thing. It was just the wealth of emotion and sensation battering against her own, much more subdued, sensibilities that had her reeling. But perhaps the sensation would not be so strong once he was properly born. Only time would tell, she supposed. "He is at that," she agreed, though the way she said it, one could not say that his elegant appearance was necessarily a good thing. Still, she offered Idriss a little smile for the doe's curiosity. Close friends? Eliza was not certain that she had anything resembling a friend at all, let alone a close friend, particularly one with a Guardian. But perhaps Miss Rhoswyn would oblige. She had been eager enough to speak of things concerning Guardians the last time they had seen each other. "Yes," she agreed quietly. "I may try that."MoonRazor I think we're about ready to wrap this one up?

"And Driss and I would by happy to offer our assistance. If you ever require it, of course," Jordun added, calling the white doe to his side with a thought and smoothing the downy fur atop her head while she closed her eyes in contented bliss. Idriss had her fun and tricks, but she was a sensible creature at her core, well-suited to teaching young Guardians how to play without pushing their limits too far.
"Now, if you will excuse me, Miss Winfield, I will make preparations to leave this afternoon. I believe we must borrow a lady's maid," he said, feeding one last grape to his Guardian. There was much to be done before their departure - though thankfully, nothing more for him other than issuing several orders.
As he pushed his chair back and rose from his seat, Jordun smiled. "Fear not, Miss Winfield, everything will work itself out. It always does."
((Yup!))
