And he would have been content to lay there with his ribbon lightly covered with Melisande's, Rivener's playful antics earning an adoring smile from the sated demon, but even from his point of view, he could see each stolen kiss. When Rivener pressed to her lips, he actually went rigid for a moment.
Don't think me cold, she'd said to him mere days ago, My last real kiss was...a long time ago.
Zul winced just a little, pulling himself up on the couch by the arm of it. It was a little too late to warn Rivener, but he also had to tell himself that if Melisande wasn't ready, she would have said something. That gave him a little bit of comfort, hoping it wasn't too much of a push for the trapped female.
Setting himself upright and floating towards the TV, he gave the two their peace while he removed the DVD and put it away, glancing towards the clock. It was getting close to midnight, which was becoming obvious by the distant snap of firework poppers. Zul smiled to himself, remembering the wishes his woman had taught him to make on New Years, thinking that just then...he didn't really have anything he would wish for himself. He had it all.

Pasha squeezed her eyes shut as Rivener drew up close, so close that she couldn't focus on his face. She tensed and laughed, eyes still closed and hands closing on the front of his vest as he loomed over her. It took her several long moments to realize something very unexpected was happening.
His kisses moved up her neck, warm and insistent. Melisande was frozen in shock. She'd been expecting him to tickle her!! This…this was…
Her eyes opened slowly, unfocused through the haze of his red locks. She didn't wish to push him away, but her mind was following the same path as Zul's. For so long, she'd tried to remember everything about that last kiss, and Melisande truly worried something like this would wash it all away.
Her hands flattened against his chest, gently. Rivener's touch ghosted across her cheek, and the Muse let her eyes flutter closed again as he smiled wickedly down over her. Her nerves were singing, until the moment his lips touched hers.
Her breath caught as they parted, and she pushed the Scorpion gently back. Melisande's color was high, her eyes bright as she gazed up at him. She hadn't forgotten. Zavier's kiss was still cradled in her heart, as precious as his name. Next to it was Rivener's.
"You and I have a different definition of coffee." Humor twinkled in her eyes and she slid gracefully out from under him, trailing her fingers along his arm. She made her way over to Zul, siding up against him to size up the Scorpion.
"Is he always this forward?" The affection was obvious in her voice as she eyed them both.

Rivener was beyond relieved and beyond thrilled that he hadn't been pushed away. She'd let him kiss her! And when they finally moved apart his heart was thumping like a drum in his chest, the same crazy rhythm it beat for Zul whenever they kissed, but different at the same time. The same drum, the same beat, but different. It was hard to explain. With a soft smile the Scorpion let her escape now that he'd taken his "revenge" on her just as he had from Zul for the cheek-kiss surprise. He settled in his side of the couch, sinking in the corner comfortably with arms draped across the back, eyeing his two loves on the other end... How perfect they looked together like that, nearly cuddled together.
Melisande's question drew a sultry, confident smile from the dark male. His nerves were almost completely gone now, and what remained was the Rivener Zul was more used to seeing, borderline arrogant in his sensuality, wanting nothing more than to flirt and shower affection on those he loved, gaining their affection and admiration and compliments in return. "Oh, my lovely Melisande, I am the very definition of forward." He winked at her and grinned.
"Is it that late already?!" he asked as he noticed the time flashing on the dvd player. "How many movies have I slept through? We really need to go out to the balcony and see this New Year in right! I'll get the champagne, while you two head for the balcony, okay? Zul, try to put in a good word for me: convince her that having me be so forward is a very fun adventure. And I'm a terrific kisser, which she should look forward to learning first-hand more often, hm?" Another wink, and the Scorpion was off the couch, wings rustling as he ran a hand dashingly through his hair.
Three flutes and one fresh bottle of champagne. That would be the best way to start the year. Perhaps Pasha would recognize the glasses as the ones she'd bought Riv for Christmas, as part of that picnic basket.

The demon lowered his eyes to the Muse as she floated against him, gingerly taking her fingers and resting them over his forearm. "I assure you, this is positively tame," he responded, eyes following the Scorpion as he moved to the kitchen. "He only knows how to love with his entire heart. He's minding his manners. It's rather cute."
Patting her hand, he used the gentle hold he had on her to lead her towards the patio, shaking his head a little as he opened the glass door for her. "I think you've experienced how good his kiss can feel first hand." The demon cast only a brief glance back to the Scorpion before he slid to the patio, still holding the door ajar for Rivener to return. "It only gets better. I swear he's made of some fine wine somewhere in his make up."

Pasha's spirits were high. She accepted Zul's arm without hesitation, smiling at his commentary on Rivener's tameness. She'd never once thought to apply that word to the Scorpion.
The cold air snatched at her breath as they drifted out onto the patio, and without thinking she pressed sidelong against Zul. The warmth of him was a comfort that still surprised her. The echo of Rivener's kiss surprised her as well. There was no pain, no guilt…nothing had been lost. Instead, the excitement of it filled her, spiking every time she recalled it. "Gets…better?" The thought of more made her a little lightheaded. Pasha tightened her arm around Zul's, glancing up at his profile. A thrill of nerves shot through her, but she spoke her heart regardless.
"Tonight is about new beginnings. I don't think anyone needs that as much as you and I. Thank you, Zul. For always being so patient with me." A firework blossomed brilliantly overhead, lining her face in blue for a moment before the boom shook the patio. Melisande floated a little higher, her arm leaving his, and before she could reconsider the Muse pressed a kiss gently to the Demon's cheek.

Rivener half-filled the three glasses, smiling at the pop of the champagne bottle's cork and taking a drink for himself before he poured. It was some rather delicious stuff! The glasses needed only one final thing: with a strawberry and some colored sugar, Rivener created a bit of impromptu art. Berry cut, he drew on the sides of the glasses with the juice then cemented the doodle with the sugar: a trio of hearts on each glass.
Rather proud of himself, the Scorpion carefully carried the glasses to the balcony, just in time to spy Pasha kissing Zul's cheek. The dark Sigel's smile warmed and he silently slipped up behind them, flanking Pasha on the other side and stretching a wing out to provide her warmth and cover as best he could against the cold January wind. The drinks were given out and he was the first to raise his glass as another firework blossomed white and blue in the dark city sky.
"To new beginnings, and new chances, and new everything. I truly hope we'll have you in our lives this year and many more to come, Melisande. Zul, I wish for another happy year in our place together, filled with all the bliss we've become used to. As for resolutions..." This, he had to think about. Pensive, he stared at the sky, the Star-speak quieted for one of the rare times as the fireworks blotted out their light. He could taste such blossoms of light, a rare feast, sharp and bright and fruity. He waited another moment, another pair of green explosions rocking the sky softly before he decided.
"This year I resolve to hide nothing. When I want something or think it, I will say it. Honesty. That's my resolution. And to start it off: Zul, I love you. Melisande, I love you, too. It might not be the usual, but as my Flower once said, who cares. If it works for us, then it's right for us." The Scorpion kept his glass up for the others to clink once they declared their own wishes for the year.

The demon nodded his head solemnly. "This is but a taste of our life. We still want to impress you, dearest Melisande. We cannot exactly ravish you with kisses as we tend to do when the mood strikes." He smiled gently at her, his bone-and-marble wings extending, curling around her softer wings to help spread his warmth.
Zul gave her a politely quizzical look at the mention of new beginnings. He supposed...it really was, for her, and Rivener. For him, this was just the way he was -- he'd been drawn to her four years ago and even during her days of fear, he knew he'd protect her with all he had. But to see her look at him with all negativity absent, to see her so close and safe and content...that was new. He could definitely get behind that idea. Zul's smile softened and as she shifted, so did he, his arm sliding behind her back, both for touch and gentle support. His tri-horned head tipped down in the slightest, receiving her kiss with a small smile, but much more in his lidded blue eyes. "Thank you, Melisande," he rumbled back softly, his voice smoke and velvet but not drowned out by the bang of a white firework, "for believing in me."
As Rivener joined them, his wing extended a touch more beneath the hood of the Scorpion's, the bone links brushing against the darker male's shirt. He listened to the bold words and the resolution, and for a moment, he felt nostalgic. He remembered the first New Year he ever saw, and how his woman taught him to never make resolutions, but to put wishes and good karma out into the world instead. Zul looked up to the sky as a burst of red painted the stars, his expression thoughtful. He supposed this once...he could make a resolution. His word was his bond; it wasn't just a pretty idea, for him...it was his reality.
Lifting his glass, he tipped it towards Rivener's. "I resolve to be happy." His blue eyes turned to his dearest two that shared the moment with him. "To borrow from Riv'ner and hide nothing, so that our days are honest and true. Your happiness is my happiness, and I will do all in my power to see you both satisfied and at peace, for all our days."

Pasha's eyes were still on Zul's face as Rivener joined them. She'd seen the moment of puzzlement, and was trying to place what had confused him. As the Scorpion handed her a glass the thought faded. "It's beautiful!" The trio of hearts made her suddenly feel warm, despite the cool midnight air. The strawberry made her think of Cesc, and she touched the garnish lightly with the tip of one finger as she smiled.
"I love your resolutions. Both of you." Her smile dimpled as she glanced up at the Scorprion, and she reached out her free hand to twine her fingers with his. It felt unreal, being able to reach out and touch him like this. All the times he'd crossed her mind, unbidden thoughts of his protective wings and piercing eyes, and she'd never realized why. Pasha blushed to remember it. The fact that she could touch Zul at all still seemed like a dream. Her hand slipped from Rivener's and she pressed it against her stomach to soothe the fluttering.
"I'm not sure what else I could hope for." Her fingers curled against the corseted fabric, pale against the dark grey. "You've both shown me such kindness, such patience, and..." Melisande's eyes moved from Riv's face to Zul's, and she paused, lips parted. "And a lot more I never could have expected."
The Muse angled until the three of them were facing one another, and raised her glass. Overhead, the fireworks came faster, gold and purple and white and red as midnight approached. "I didn't say no, despite my worries. I'm glad that I didn't. I think that will be my resolution." She tipped her glass for a clink, and smiled at them both through the blush of silver and pink cast over her cheeks. "To look forward. To trust you both. To say yes, when faced with something new. Thank you! Happy New Year!"
Their glasses touched with a delicate note, and Pasha drifted back a bit, giving them room to share the first kiss of the new year. Here, on her beautiful balcony. There was something in her eyes that had been missing for a very long time, and it lit her face the way nothing else could.
Melisande was happy.
