"They are elementals of darkness," Athan spoke up to answer Cinder's question. "All naturally occurring elements have a ah," he paused searching for the correct term, "Manifestation, if you will, that gives them a physical form on our plane. Gnomes for earth, salamanders for fire, undine for water, sylphs for air."
He fell silent again with an extremely puzzled look. "There are also elementals for darkness and light, but they are supposed to be so obscure that a mortal might not ever lay eyes upon them. I haven't even a name for them," he said as he waved a hand towards the growing group of creatures that were making a mess out of the plates of cookies and candy.
At least, he did not have a name for them that he could translate from his native language that would make any sort of sense to the rest of them.
Mystic leaned back in Reyna's chair with his hands propped behind his head. "They prefer the term 'imp' as it implies a sort of mischievous nature which, obviously, they like," he said with a strange sort of clarity that implied he knew what he was talking about.
"Well, then," Athan scowled, "If you're so knowledgeable on the subject, surely you can send them back to where they belong."
"Yes. I can do that."
"Then do it before they run out of sweets and tear up the damn shop!"
Reyna's face twitched into a grin. She could hear Athan's voice rising and falling and felt amusement filter through her bond to Mystic. "Looks like s**t is about to get interesting," she told Amon as she playfully elbowed him.

“Ah, I don't really like the sound of this 'interesting',” Amon complained with a dour face. “What with this place, there's a terrific chance it's going to involve magic in one way or another …” Despite his laconic remark, he got back onto his feet to head back inside, flicking his half-finished cigarette onto the sidewalk after one last deep drag. He held the door for Reyna, and … that was just where he intended to stay, as close to the door as possible. Just in case.
'Athan just talked about your salamanders,' Nephrite informed her guardian, latching onto his arm the moment he stepped inside.
“Pre-tty sure he wasn't talking about my salamanders,” Amon replied in a low voice. Athan still looked pretty upset, he noted. Dear Gods, he wanted to be nowhere near that man when he was really pissed off.
'Ew, you smell of cigarette smoke!' Neprhite complained. She didn't have a nose to crinkle, but her fabricy tail did a fairly good job a that instead.
“And you, sweetheart, still smell of cookies,” Amon shot back, still keeping his voice low as he drew the young fiend into a tight embrace with a good-natured grin.
She escaped almost immediately, by simply phasing through his arms (he had stopped freaking about that by now …). 'Gah! You smell of smoke, I said! An-an-and you're sweaty. And you haven't showered yet! And you're stubbly!' She kept hovering nearby, but well out of his reach after she had voiced her disgust.

Miranda nodded slowly as she absentmindedly fed another cookie to the imp nesting in her purse, having listened very attentively and very fascinated. Well, so much then for being afraid of the dark, if its manifestations were this cute! “Don't worry,” she whispered, leaning over to Rhys. “Everything will be just fine.” She beamed. “Cookie?”
She still hadn't noticed, in all this cookie-crumbling mayhem, that her fiend had gone missing.
Said missing fiend was feeling quite accomplished, gently petting the electric kettle once he'd put it back together. Too bad he'd only had his basic tools with him, no soldering iron, and no extra cables and wires and stuff from his ever-growing stock. But this was definitely the best he could do without. His ever-twirling tail spreading an extra shower of sparkles what with how pleased the fiend was with himself, Rutie aimed the plug for the power outlet.

Reyna leaned towards Amon after Nephrite had skittered a way and idly reached to touch his face. "You are scruffy looking," she told him with a look of curiosity, "That's different."
Everything seemed relatively calm for the moment until Rutie plugged in the tea kettle he had "fixed." His innocuous efforts caused the lights to flicker for a moment with a buzzing noise before shorting out entirely, leaving the entire shop blanketed it darkness.
Athan sighed and pressed a hand to his face. This was night seemed as though it would never end.

“Got home late,” Amon explained, instinctively slightly leaning into her touch, “and thanks to those gremlins I haven't gotten a wink of sleep since then. Lest alone time for a shower or shaving. Like i-” That was when the lights flickered and died, causing Amon to swear under his breath. “Oh, for Gaia's sake,” he muttered, fumbling for his lighter. Had he known of Athan's sentiment, he would have wholeheartedly agreed with it.

Rutie blinked as the lights fizzed out, his look clearly disappointed. Without electricity, his marvelously improved kettle wasn't going to work either, he knew. He was aware there was such a thing referred to as a “fuse box” which would fix things such as these, so he went to look for it, quite unaware that his “improved” kettle had caused the blackout in the first place – and that the whereabouts of said fusebox had been carefully kept from him for a reason.
“Oh, woops, what just happened?” Miranda blinked into the darkness. Well, blackouts did happen, more often than not if Rutie was around, as she came to realize when she finally noticed it had been a while she'd last laid eyes upon her fiend. Well, it was only a blackout, nothing to worry about. “Rutie?” she called into the darkness. “What have you done now?”
She'd made only one hesitant step forward, and immediately stopped when she felt something squish underneath her sole. Oh no, did I just step on …? The thought was sickening, really, especially as she had no idea that any attempt (intentionally or accidentally) to destroy the imps only caused them to multiply. What more, as soon as the lights flickered out, there seemed to go a rush through the room. “I … don't think this is good,” she murmured, making a step back and getting a hold of Rhys' arm in the dark. “Not good at all ...”

Cinder nodded, "Magic isn't my department, I considered dropping them off in deep space if you didn't have a fix here. But sounds like there is a specific place they are suppose to go." Cinder crossed her arms resting against the wall, a slight frown on her face as she watched the greedy little creatures with the cookies. As the lights flickered out, the pirate's eye twitched her lip curling a little she'd survived too many attacks and her survival instincts were not letting her relax. Within moments nano bots within her eyes went to work, the world for her flickered slightly before everyone came into view in murky red outlines. "Everyone alright?"
Rhys smiled taking the cookie from Miranda, there was an awkward moment while he considered what to say. Miranda was nice and pretty which for Rhys tended to cut off his ability to speak much of the time. "Ah..." The lights going out stopped him from having to come up with something witty to respond with. Sighing Rhys frowned, "Tek? ~" A touch of agitation came to his voice, if something was wrong with the power it likely would be his charge.
When Miranda reached for him, Rhys froze a moment and patted her hand. "Do you have a cellphone?" Reaching back Rhys pulled Miranda closer his breath slowing as he attempted to concentrate on whatever was happening. Reaching to his pocket he muttered, "...my phone must have gotten left at the house."
Hearing Rhys accusatory tone Tek raised up calling back toward xyrs guardian, Not me! The little shadow paused gaze drifting over the area, tentacles moving to slide over any imps he could touch nearby, this really was weird usually the others preferred light.

Athan's patience had worn quite thin with this situation. He blended in almost entirely with the darkness save for the soft green glow of his eyes. That familiar glow brightened as he cast a spell, much to the chagrin of the imps who were enjoying the absence of light.
Several little spirals of green energy formed at his palms before darting up towards the corners of the room like will-o'-the-wisps, casting everyone in the shop in an unearthly glow.
"Mystic," he spoke up, "I tired of this. Please kindly do something about the imps, or I will do it for you."

Amon had just routinely flicked his lighter open, thumb already on the striker wheel, when he caught sight of some ghostly green glow and paused. He had never realized Athan's eyes actually glowed in the dark. This … was just plain creepy.
As was his conjuring up those eerie wisps of light.
Amon's face paled considerably, but he at least had the presence of mind to snap his lighter back shut, almost dropping it in the process. Before even one of the small magical flames could make it his direction, he had already hastily dashed out of the door.
Nearby, Nephrite looked almost as shaken as her guardian had, clearly she had been caught completely unprepared for the sudden rush of panic coming from her soul-bond. She looked at the door, then towards Athan and Mystic, then back at the door again. And then back to Athan and Mystic. She was torn. On one hand she wanted to follow her guardian to comfort him, on the other she was deathly curious to see how the imps would be sent away.

“My cellphone? Yeah, of course I do. Wait a sec …” Miranda rummaged through her purse, not the least bothered by the lack of light in that regard – it was so stuffed to the brim with all sorts of necessities she usually had to feel around for things it anyway. She stopped, however, brown eyes wide with awe behind their glasses, when she witnessed Athan conjure up a temporary lightsource – literary conjure. That was so awesome!

Theirn growled a little under his breath, it had been a night to remember and not in a good way. First some sort of small creatures had appeared out of no where and then there had been an explosion. A small one mind you but still an explosion, whatever that liquid crap that Coal had been working with was all over the basement and he was pretty sure at least some of it was eating through the floor. Coal's experiments going to rot wouldn't have been the worst of it, no the worst of it was when they'd gotten to his coffee pot. Theirn was still working his way back up from having nothing and the coffee pot was pretty important to him; crushing the imp responsible in his hand he'd flung the shadow stuff - two rising and landing luckily in an old mason jar that held the only sugar in the house. Theirn was more of a meat person and didn't indulge in sweets often, the imps had rolled around in the sugar making themselves look like sugared shadow beasts as they greedily fed on the sweets.
Coal curled up in the seat near his guardian, a sour expression on his face, his spectacles pushed up as he rubbed his forehead. He'd been the one to realize they were actually drawn to the sugar and then with what little sugar they had helped bribe the little beasts to the pick up. Luckily Theirn had gotten a cover for the back just recently ... what the rest of the five pound back of sugar thrown in the back they'd more or less been sealed away. Coal's tail flicked a few times like an angry cat, he could hear the imps battering at the top of the fake leather cover over the back of the truck. I think they are going to break free, the sugar must have run out.
Theirn growled again, glancing to the back his amber eyes letting off a soft glow in the dark, "we're almost there they better not break through that." The growling rumble from his truck came to a stop near Twilight Design, his hackles rising as he saw the dark of the shop and eerie glow from within. "Carrreful," his word dragged on as he looked to the shop voice tense with agitation. It was only a couple nights to the full moon and he could feel it, perhaps he should cancel his date with Trivii, she was suppose to come over to learn to run with the beast so she could stay with him whenever. Pushing aside his thoughts of the woman with feline tendencies Theirn threw the door of his truck open. "Lets find out what's going on inside."
Coal scowled, rubbing his hand over his heart, he'd learned to pick up on his guardian's emotions and even if brief thoughts of a female he fancied made Coal itch in the most uncomfortable ways. "Yes lets..." even if he was unable to be hurt by most things he slid a wrench from his work belt, dropping down out of the truck to follow his guardian.
As wisp lights and worry filled the shop within, Theirn moved to the door and threw it open, a low growl in his throat as he expected trouble. The growl was cut off as he looked over the shop seeing instead the group of guardians without as much obvious mayhem as he'd expected. His gaze drifted over toward where some of the imps had gathered and he growled, "there are more of them here too."

Turning Rhys looked to Miranda a moment, wondering some what the point of purses were. Cinder and Merci generally didn't carry them, unless he counted Cinder's tool bag and that he privately felt was filled at least with mostly useful things. Purses and cellphone thoughts were pushed away as the glow from the lights appeared, Rhys tensed watching them spread out before letting a slow breath out realizing they were just lights. "At least we can see now," frowning some he glanced around remember the sound they'd heard in the dark - what had been going on.
Tek dropped back down spreading xyrs arms and tentacles out to hug and try to comfort the imps as their distress at the light coming back rose again. You won't hurt them though...right? Worry was heard through the little fiends mental voice as xe asked.
Seeing light come back there was another brief flicker as Cinder's eyes turned back to normal vision, Theirn bursting the door open caused her to pull her small laser pistol she'd kept concealed up til this point. Muttering when she saw the bouncer she re holstered it. Her nerves weren't handling the night so well they really needed to send these little beasts back to wherever they had come from.

Reyna dashed out the door to check on Amon, chuckling quietly as she did so. She didn't like Athan's spellcasting, either, but only because it had the overwhelming tendency to make her sick to her stomach. That minor spell wasn't so bad.
Her Fiend was still stuck in the shop, and was now being stared down by Athan and a growing number of disgruntled guardians. "Yes, yes," he grumbled, "No need to be so pushy. I'll send them back."
He stood up from behind the desk and with one hand drew a circle midair that sizzled with a pale violet light. The inside of the circle crackled before swirling to disappear into an endless, deep darkness. He turned his gaze onto the little imps that were crowding around his feet making curious little chirping noises.
"In you go," Mystic said as he gently lifted one up and allowed it to hop off into the portal of its own accord. It disappeared momentarily before popping its head back out with a triumphant sort of noise as it motioned for its brethren to follow suit.

Amon said nothing when Teirn passed him by in the darkness without taking notice of him – he was entirely too focused on drawing one shuddering breath after another and waiting for his racing heartbeat to calm. “I'll be fine in a minute,” he muttered when he realized Reyna had followed him outside once more. Of course he wouldn't be, he knew this much very well from previous panic attacks, but his self esteem demanded he at least play it down some. “Just … not going back inside before it's over,” he added with a weak smile. “Shouldn't have headed back in in the first place.” He was really longing for a smoke now, but he absolutely didn't trust himself handling anything fiery in his current state. He hadn't quite forgotten about that whiff of gasoline he'd caught when Cinder had passed by with her little horde of cajoling imps. “You go back in, if you want to,” he offered. “I'll be fine on my own. Though, you do look a little green around the nose,” he added with the hint of a grin.
Nephrite was feeling very, very disappointed the imps were simply allowed to go … elsewhere. She'd somehow been hoping they'd been exterminated, like the vermin she considered them to be, or disintegrated or – at the very least – incarcerated. But they actually seemed to like the place the portal was leading to. Meh. Though, at the very least, she'd be rid of them. She shuddered when she thought of the mess they'd left behind at the cottage.

A small, shocked “Eep!” escaped Miranda's lips, almost dropping her purse when the werewolf made his rather impressive entrance, throwing the door open and entering with a growl. But then she breathed a small sigh of relief, realizing it was 'only' Theirn. And Coal~! Boy, he had grown so much, and he was looking so snazzy with that steampunk outfit and the glasses and all.
There was movement in her purse, and she made a small pout when the imp which had been hanging out in there til now clambered out to join his brethren going … well, she could only presume they were about to go home, judging by their happy chirping and chattering. “Bye-bye, little ones,” she said, feeling just a little sad, and waving
