Asuka sat up, and quickly rose to her feet, after being hit by her master's attack. Such power, she was certainly worthy of her title.
Asuka stood ready again, before looking down to a tear in her outfit, she sighed internally, 'Why is it always my clothing that gets damaged...' Her attention was caught by her master's words once again, Asuka nodded, holding her sword in front of her with both hands, and closing her eyes, her blade beginning to glow with a faint purple aura.

Kyouji Kuzunoha X, Great Summoner of the Yatagarasu
"What's honorable is all a matter of perspective...I just do what's necessary."

There came a time during every summoner's training when there simply had to be a line drawn in the sand; if they had an aptitude for the line of work, there were certain abilities that they had to be able to master at some point. They had to be able to meet the challenges that their predecessors laid before them and surpass their expectations. Here, the Great Summoner Kyouji Kuzunoha the Tenth was laying down the gauntlet to her four present charges...it was an obstacle, a test, that they needed to pass in order to prove their worth in continuing down the road to becoming one of the Four. Summoner Skills required an immense amount of both talent and concentration, the loyalty of your demons, and the trust in your own abilities to attack on your own against an enemy strong enough to require this level of ability. Until now, the talent that she had seen in some of the young summoners had only been demonstrated through summoning and the strength of spirit that they put on display every time that they fought, but in this exam, this contest, she was getting to see each and every one of her apprentices fighting at their very best...and they were fighting at it because she was forcing it out of them. She had to do it, even if she didn't particularly enjoy kicking and punching and making light of her 'underclassmen' in the art of summoning in order to see what they could really do. It was better she gauge them like this than they have to find out against the likes of a real enemy...one that wouldn't stop her blade shy of the skin at the neck before plunging it six inches deep. She had to give them the feeling of being overwhelmed, of needing to dig deeper, of needing to harness and concentrate their power at their utmost and desperate end. And she needed to know they could do it, otherwise, like it or not they were simply spinning their wheels as summoners seeking to become a Kuzunoha...

...If this was the Final Exam, then they were approaching the Climax...the money question, as it were. Could they master all that was required of them in order to become a real Kuzunoha, like herself or Geirin or Ciela before them?

"Every one of you has a unique power, a unique weapon, and a unique style of attack," she explained as her devils fought with the most experienced of her pupils behind her, following commands she never even needed to give voice to in that combat. In a way, that alone was a perfect display of the harmony between summoner and devil that was required of someone at the level of Kuzunoha, but that was also some level of instinct, of training on the battlefield. What they were learning now...it would become a building block for the specialties of their future jobs. Adapt and survive; do both of those things and you would surely grow. Now the time had come to do just that...to grow. "If you listen, your devils will tell you what you are capable of doing together. Every devil I've trapped for you...every lesson I've taught...everything I've told you until now has been in preparation for this moment. I can give you the tools to stand, as a true Great Summoner of the Yatagarasu..." the hooded woman told them sternly, her arms crossing before her as she stepped out into the center of the trio and extended her hand, fingers beckoning them all forward...to answer her challenge and do what she believed they could, "Now, you have to use them and step through the door! Come on and beat me, if you think you can!"

It was at that moment that a wave of immense fire erupted behind her; the Sea of Red nearly washed over her, but with a flourish of her cape Kyouji seemed to weather the storm. Ishtar cast herself before the fire and dispersed from the damage, sparing her summoner the worst of the burn in the process. A whispered acknowledgment of thanks escaped the violet-haired warrior's lips at that, and even Futsunushi didn't seem to be entirely unaffected by the fire that had stricken him, reeling back in the air with a sharp cry before two blades found their way into his hands...his foot touching the ground again to allow him to propel forward and swipe one edge up and past Hiita's face, passing over just short before the second whirled along with his body and cut through her right at the center...the devil dispersed into mist and returned to the tube an instant before the worst of it could render her more than simply beaten. And after the satisfaction of another fallen charmer curled the corner of his usually-stoic lips int of a smirk, the proud swordsman devil fell back to her summoner's side, covering her back as Shu likely prepared for another attack against her.

It was coming up to the very Climax of the battle for him as well; just one or two more rounds and one way or another, it would all have to come to a close. She hoped that he was listening to her explanation to the others, taking as much from the lessons as he could. She'd have loved to give him a little more personal explanation, to lump him in with the others, but there was another purpose to his fight right now as well...his devils were growing, they needed to be heard, unleashed.

"Shu, don't be discouraged by a few losses," his master wasn't consoling him as much as guiding him; from the inside of the tube another voice called out to him to drive the same point home...begging for a chance to do what her other numbers couldn't and finally finish the swordsman, "There is a reason we carry eight devils instead of the two we summon to fight beside us. It is so that we can adapt, that we can test our enemies and try again. So keep trying..." Her eyes flashed over her shoulder for just a moment from beneath the hood, encouraging...challenging...waiting.

And in a flash there was a tube at her side, silver and shimmering, and from within a devil with a proud, golden visage and majestic wings was produced to hover beside her.

"I am Sandalphon..." it spoke in a voice that was booming and powerful, "...Summon forth your ally to meet me if you dare."

Quote:
Kyouji Kuzunoha X
Talk - Offer apprentices instruction. [Target: All]
Defend - Prepare to resist/avoid damage from summoner skills. [Target: Self]
Summon [Sandalphon]!

Ishtar is hit and retreats into the tube!

Sandalphon
Agneyastra - Inflicts heavy Phys Damage 1-3 times on all enemies. [Target: All]

Futsunushi
Primal Force - Very High Phys Damage, 1 Target. [Target: Hiita]

Hiita is KO'd!

...

Eria is calling out to Shu! A greater power is trying to awaken inside of her!
Will you heed her call and unleash her inner strength?

...

Kyouji's teachings have taken root inside of you! Red, Asuka, and Yatsuda have gained access to a new type of ability...a Summoner Skill! Summoner skills are immensely powerful combination attacks which draw upon the power of both the demon and the summoner to further amplify whatever ability the summoner uses against his enemies. Attacks are powerful at base level, and may grow over time with training and/or improvements made to the summoner's weapon itself!

Red has obtained the skill: [Fire Slash]!
Fire Slash is an upgradable summoner skill which requires at least a basic summoner's blade to use. By summoning the magnetite of your allies [who cannot attack on the turn this is in use] into your blade, use this powerful combo attack to deal Heavy Fire damage to all enemies with a 1/8 chance of Stun. [As the summoner grows, Fire Slash may eventually upgrade into [Scorch Slash] and [Flare Slash]!]

Asuka has obtained the skill: [Gale Stab]!
Gale Stab is an upgradable summoner skill which requires at least a basic summoner's blade to use. By summoning the magnetite of your allies [who cannot attack on the turn this is in use] into your blade, use this powerful combo attack to deal Heavy Wind damage to all enemies with a 1/8 chance of Stun. [As the summoner grows, Gale Stab may eventually upgrade into [Torrent Stab] and [Cyclone Stab]!]

Yatsuda has obtained the skill: [Bolt Slash]!
Bolt Slash is an upgradable summoner skill which requires at least a basic summoner's blade to use. By summoning the magnetite of your allies [who cannot attack on the turn this is in use] into your blade, use this powerful combo attack to deal Heavy Elec damage to all enemies with a 1/8 chance of Stun. [As the summoner grows, Bolt Slash may eventually upgrade into [Electric Slash] and [Thunder Stab]!]

The young summoner opened her eyes to see a swirl of wind surrounding her blade, sourced from the tip of the sword, spiraling downward like a drill.
She took a step back, and stood ready once again, her blade now pointed at her master. She looked left, to Yatsuda, and Right to Red, and nodded to herself. They would all have to attack at the same time, Asuka's expression turned determined.
"Here we go!"

Jo(shu) Michieru And Eria the Water Charmer
Jo(shu) watched as the Sea of Red washed over Kyouji, though as expected, she was able to manage most of the blow thanks to her Demonic companions.
They really do a lot for us.. he thought to himself, as Kyouji assured him, telling him that despite beating his head against the wall of potential, he shouldn't give up. Even as the attacks crashed into him, he stood strong, wincing.
"Wasn't planning on it." he called, before swinging his hand out, magnetite summoning up another friend...The one that he'd spent the most time, and trouble getting.

The blue haired summon moved out from this, draping her arms around him.
"I can use your Power....If you'll let me." she called in a sultry voice, her hand snaking into his.

"Be my guest.." he called with a small smile, as her energy started to burst forth like the others, her body seeming to shift in the immense surge of energy, before moving out in front of him.
"Jokulhlaup." the demon called, before a surge of water started to surge, moving towards the swordsman that had handily leveled so many of his companions, and the New-summoned Angel.. As it moved closer, and touched at it, it started to explode out in a burst of water, freezing as it made contact, and splashing out to hit at Kyouji, and the demons. It was....a sight to behold, as Eria stood in front of her summoner, showing off her good side with her new spell.

Quote:
Jo(shu): Heed Eria's Call, summoning her, and giving her energy.
Eria: Taking Shu's Magnetite, and calling forth what is within..

Red
Red continued to focus his energy, as his demon gave him her essence. With the words of Kyouji supporting him, and the knowledge that the others were doing just the same, he could concentrate.
Lamia.. he thought, as he felt his fists start to fill with magnetite, flown from his demon to his grip, as he opened his eyes.
"Fire.." he called, noticing as his gloves seemed to almost catch flame, though he didn't feel burnt. He gave off a confident smirk at this, as if knowing just what to do.
He jumped forward at this, and thrust his fist forward, bringing it down in an Arc, as the flames roared out, to Scorch at Kyouji, and her summoned companions.
"SLASH!"

"Come on, you know I don't force myself onto people. I just show my love"

With Yuki-Hime concentrating her magnetite into his weapon, Yatsuda had put all of his focus onto his weapon. Once he could feel the energy flowing out of the weapon, Yatsuda had saw that the shaft of the cane was coated in electricity. With the electric sparking off of the cane, Yatsuda quickly knew what to do. He then darted towards the Grand Summoner and swung the cane towards her, the electric coat darting off of the cane and toward his test-giver and her allies.

Kyouji Kuzunoha X, Great Summoner of the Yatagarasu
"What's honorable is all a matter of perspective...I just do what's necessary."

Rise or fall...grow or wither...live or die.

She had asked her apprentices to lay their power on the line, lay their very lives on the line in order to defeat her, and now they were rising up to meet her expectations just as she had hoped that they would from the very beginning. There was no time to revel in the pride of the moment, however, as each weapon grew more powerful...each weapon took in the magnetite and changed it into the specific element that represented their own unique Summoner's Skill. She had a hunch about which ones suited each of them, and she had made sure that the devils that they inherited from their master would adhere to the style that best represented how they fought. Now, the seeds which had been planted were bearing fruit; one wrong move and she might find herself the one laid out flat or worse...her apprentices hadn't come here this morning to mess around, had they? One-by-one they surrounded her and then launched into the impressive array of strikes aimed in her direction. Gale Stab...a wind-type strike with a remarkable potential for growth; it went well with the elemental affinity that Asuka had always displayed throughout her growth and training...the attack bore down on her and erupted as the winged angel turned and moved into the path of the strike. Even with the power of the heavenly host on its side, however, that one was going to hurt; Kyouji dodged back and away, grateful for her devil's intervention, though the attack was only beginning.

"Asuka Bokuro...Exam Pass," the summoner smirked proudly as she landed, only for the follow-up of Red to come and force her into a retreat again...the very fire from his blade nearly setting her ablaze, only the flourish of her cape and the smooth retreat of the woman herself allowing her to avoid the worst of the arc that had been set against her, "Summoner Red...Exam Pass."

Even the angel couldn't completely weather Red's assault; falling back from the flames, Sandalphon arranged itself in front of Kyouji as she landed, proudly looming and challenging the last of the apprentices to attack. Both Asuka and Red had managed to harness their abilities and master the Summoner Skill, but more new to summoning than any of them was Yatsuda. Now was a moment for him to shine, to show that he could keep up with the challenges of being a member of the Yatagarasu...a chance to confirm the confidence in his talent that had inspired the Great Summoner to bring him along to train with the rest of them underneath her. ...And as she landed, looking past the angel's wings to see him drawing electricity into his cane sword, she could tell with a smile that the hat-clad, effeminate warrior wouldn't disappoint. 'All right, Yatso...here we go!' she didn't think as she prepared her next move, drawing a silver tube between her fingers and commanding over her shoulder that the devil swordsman deal with the eldest apprentice amongst her group. He'd have to hold off Shu for a moment while she dealt with this fight once and for all...Yatsuda's Bolt Slash struck with a tremendous force, Sandalphon moving in the path and finding itself no match for the force that her apprentice had summoned. It dispersed into a haze of magnetite and returned to the tube from which it had come, the strike sending a mist of smoke and haze between she and the rest of her attackers. They had all done well...very well...and she was proud beyond words...

...But surpassing her expectations didn't mean that they had yet surpassed her...

"Hudamora Yatso...Exam Pass," the voice within the smoke praised...but no sooner had Kyouji spoke than a flash revealed an armed warrior with a powerful spear, looming before them and siphoning its magnetite into the summoner...a summoner that dashed past them, fist drawn back with the blade enchanted before it was thrust forward...a power unleashed to floor the apprentices in a single move, "Raging Blast!" She moved like wind, flashing past the team in an instant...the impact and power knocking each of them to their backs with a dreadful thud, the tip of a spear and the heel of a boot pressing themselves against the necks of Red and Asuka after a beat that let them know that the duel between themselves and their master had ended. And while the frustration at defeat remained a threat...one look behind them at the tattered cloak of their master, her thin frame standing back to its full height as she turned, black hood dropping away from her violet hair to reveal a coy yet proud smirk upon her face...that was all it took to reveal that their efforts had not been in vain.

...

In the space on the far side of the clearing another confrontation continued at a level that was likely to surprise even the most gifted summoners present; Eria's spell had been met by a thrust of the devil swordsman Futsunushi, yet even his attack had been pushed back by the intensity of the ball of water that had crashed into him and frozen in an instant...leaving the warrior a statuesque picture before them...until the intense force of his shout shattered the ice into shards that fell around them like flakes from the sky. He was damaged, though...the heavy way he seemed to slump as he hovered before the apprentice and his devils revealed all he needed to know about the progress he had made. Two devils of incredible skill and power were out now on the side of the Master, but Shu had yet to step back, yet to lay down after being knocked down...and somewhere deep inside of him the voices of his allies were still calling out to him, still begging for the chance to fight for him. She could hear...she could feel...

This moment was crucial to everything...she looked across the field past the fallen apprentices and saw that only he was still standing; Futsunushi moved on his own and angrily made short work of the Water Charmer, though he struggled back into his hovering stance with the last bit of effort he could manage. Her powerful swordsman and the devil lancer now awaited Shu's final move...but if he couldn't manage to pass the final test, even a weakened Great Summoner would be more than a match for him.

...

"You've come a long way, Shu. But there's one important technique you've yet to learn on the Path of the Kuzunoha. I think you know which one..." her voice was stern as she walked slowly past the fallen Asuka and Red, Tam Lin releasing them with an understanding they were 'fallen'...falling into step beside her master as Futunushi's form came to shadow her on the far side...the three of them forming an intimidating silhouette against the morning sunlight as they approached him...the portrait of a Great Summoner that she hoped she could be for each of them, "You can hear them now, can't you? Wynn...and Talisa...they're ready for your answer. Answer them...and prove your worth as MY apprentice!"

Jo(shu) Michieru, Wynn the Wind Charmer, And Talisa, the False Charmer
Jo(shu) watched Eria's attack slam into the Swordsman, and though things were still going, and the demon swordsman still managed to withstand the blow of magic. A blast of energy from the demon's summoner, and a slash from the demon itself, and Eria was knocked out. Jo(shu) was getting backed into a corner. The others were passing their exam one by one....and as she seemed to praise them with her movements...It was when attention came back to him that he could feel it. He'd managed to do well working on drawing out the power of his demons, but as Kyouji spoke to him, addressing him, he could feel it.
"One important technique..." Jo(shu) called to himself, before he heard it... He heard the call of not one, but two of his demons. His oldest demon...And the one of the group that wasn't part of the original group. The one that had strained him the hardest...and one of his closest demons.
"Talisa, the False Charmer.." he called, raising up one hand...before his other hand moved. "Wynn the Wind Charmer.."
For the faintest of moments, he had pondered which of the two to answer first......Before he could feel it...He could sense it.
Why do I have to choose? he thought with a smirk, thinking back to the time he'd fought Kotetsu Kaburagi. He had always been wary before of attempting it after realizing how much it drained someone who wasn't practiced for it, and for the longest time, he'd adapted it as instinct.
One at a time... he thought quietly, before shaking his head. Yes, he'd been restricted to one at a time for so long...And yet, after all of his training..after being backed into a corner, and hearing the voices of his summons...Of his most trusted companions.....He knew....
"It's time!" he said to himself, before his magnetite started to flow out. The familiar green haired demon Wynn emerged, with a fiery, competitive gaze.....before another figure emerged, with her extravagant outfit, and matchless blade, her glare as sharp as it's edge.
"Heh..." Jo(shu) called, glancing at the two. Side by side...Two at the same time...He'd done it... Though, now wasn't the time to get sentimental.

"Shu.." Wynn's voice called, stretching her hand back at him, her gaze softening for a bit, as if asking for his help not as a condiment, or a snack...but as an Equal. The Summoner he was.
"Michieru.." Talisa's voice added, stern, and fierce...though not with the same vicious, abrasive tone as when they'd first met. Rather, she was merely letting him know how serious of a moment this was to her. She'd been against several foes, and had saved Shu's life time and again...And as their foe stood before them, the two demons and the Kuzunoha that had trained him, she wasn't going to hold anything back.
Jo(shu) gave a small smile, and a knowing nod, before gripping both of their hands, and starting to channel his Magnetite into them. It took but a few moments of their combined energy, his touch confirming to him that what he'd done was real, and that he'd managed to accomplish the trademark technique of the highest level summoners...
Double summoning......

The Green haired Demon burst out in a surge of energy at this, rocketing towards the Swordsman that had been handling the rest of the charmers with such ease, her fist clenched tightly as she reeled back, harnessing power the likes of which Shu himself had never seen before. Her fist moved to make contact, before an intensely condensed Tempest of wind formed at her palm.
"Bite...Sized...Tempest!" Wynn cried out, as the tempest exploded out at Futsunushi, blasting him with all of her energy at once.

Talisa herself focused the energy she was given, watching as Wynn started with her tempest...before she started to move even quicker than her. Talisa's energy erupted outward, though instead of focusing on just one target, Talisa swung her Blade out at All of their perceived foes, striking at all of them with several rapid movements, the swell of energy exploding outward as she struck at all of her foes. She was going to show the others she wasn't to be taken lightly...
"Thundering Punch!" She called out, as her strikes moved about at all of her foes.
I'm Not a Fake!

Quote:
Jo(shu): Summon Wynn..AND Talisa, granting them Magnetite to answer their call.
Wynn: Fist Sized, Condensed Tempest of wind. Upon contact, it explodes into a Whirlwind of Severe Wind Elemental Damage. One Target (Futsunushi)
Wynn has Evolved into 'Storming Wynn, the Cataclysmic Wind Charmer!
Talisa: Thundering Punch: A hailstorm of aerial blows upon all foes. Deal 1-3 hits Heavy Phys Damage to all foes
Talisa has Evolved into Thundering Talisa, The Cataclysmic False Charmer!
Weapon: Renki-Dama
Armor: Kawaii Charmer Chibi T-shirt [Second Charmer's Spell used. No use now]
Accessory: It's a Trap!...Card case.

Charmer (demon) Essense. [Shu's attacks do Additional [Wind] Damage, and [Wind] Attacks do less damage as long as [Wynn] is out. (Wynn over Talisa)

"Come on, you know I don't force myself onto people. I just show my love"

With Yatsuda braving the strikes that the Grand Summoner had assailed against him and his allies, he had heard from her that he had passed the exam that she had set. So, he had pointed his cane towards his mentor, and thrusted his cane towards her for another dedicated attack. He knew that, unless he had guaranteed struck at the Grand Summoner, even with passing the test he still failed at what she had allowed being a second chance of redemption. Yuki-hime, in the aiding part of helping Yatsuda, casted a stream of magic on his weapon empowering it with strength.
"You can do it, Yatsu!"

Red
Red had felt pretty good as Kyouji uttered the word of approval towards him and Miss Kuzunoha. He gave a slight grin and let his guard down...
A moment too long, for a battle. She lunged forward with a vicious strike, and had him on the ground, in time to show him yet another moment she had him. He was....Impressed all over again. The power of a Kuzunoha was...staggering, to say the least. She was truly a powerful enemy....and yet, she spoke with such an easy softness. It was amazing..

Almost as impressive was her apprentice who conjured up another devil...And then, a second.
That's a Kuzunoha-level Technique! he thought to himself, as the apprentice then commanded his demons with a powerful air about him. What's more, if the rumors were to be believed, this was a person she'd literally picked off the streets, with no prior training, or the like.
Kyouji is really amazing.. he thought, laying in his spot, and letting the two that were still up shine as they would.

Kyouji Kuzunoha X, Great Summoner of the Yatagarasu
"What's honorable is all a matter of perspective...I just do what's necessary."

Her eyes watched, and what she saw before her did not disappoint. What few words could a master say that would sum up the journey of a thousand steps with any sort of adequacy? How could she put into phrase the physical grief, strain, training...or the mental and emotional stress of the days and weeks that had gone by struggling to ascertain the means to protect oneself, one's friends, and one's very country? What couple of sentences could a summoner use to wrap up weeks of physical training, of educational and personal meetings together in seclusion to shape up an unrefined talent into something resembling a Great Summoner, and the faith placed into a young man who no more than half a year ago had nothing to do with this world of the supernatural beyond the strangeness that lingered in the periphery? Months ago she had seen something in a young man in the town of Inaba that had made her believe he could climb the hard path towards becoming strong, and she had guessed that he could manage the tasks in a time frame much smaller than even the greatest summoners had to become accustomed to this new world of the supernatural. She had believed, but only through effort and discovery would she ever know whether or not her faith would be rewarded. How could she have known what this boy, with her care and faith, would become? How could she now, with just a spare moment between them, find the words to express the amount of pride/happiness/affection that swelled up inside of her for an apprentice who had met her expectations and simply kept on growing beyond them...becoming so much more than she could have imagined?

"Jo(Shu) Michieru..." her lips curled; the slight smile creasing her tanned visage would have to suffice, "...Exam Pass."

It didn't take a trained summoner to see that until this moment, the Great Summoner had been holding back on her apprentices; she had yet to call upon the devil which held the deepest affection for her...and there were greater techniques yet that she held within her arsenal. Her allies were powerful and she was as skillful as they could have imagined and more, but with a will not to give up, the strength to grow and learn, they had pushed her far beyond what she could have ever dreamed they might. Even Futsunushi was at his wits end, and he was the sort against whom even the mighty Yoshitsune might falter. For these apprentices to push her...to master Summoning Skills so readily, and for one of them even to ascend to be ready for the rite of Dual Summoning so soon...? There was only one thing that she could do to offer a proper reciprocation...to respond with all of her strength. And that was exactly what she intended to do; twin blades folded over her face as Futsunushi manned two of his own swords sternly...Tam Lin's spear extended in warning as master squared off against student...her nod of acknowledgment was the last cordiality she extended before the gloves came off entirely.

Wynn and Talisa took the field, his most precious (arguably) and most personal (arguably) of his Charmers flanking him on either side, their magic more than a match for the brutality of his weakened swordsman and his powerful lancer. She could practically feel the intense power that built up inside of them as they prepared their ultimate spells...the power hidden inside of them coming to the surface. Before they could finish she knew she had to act, and casting her cloak aside with a flourish she extended her hand, the two devils lashing out before her, crossing the field in a flash as the magic erupted between the two summoners and exploded into a flash of light and an eruption of smoke and dust that rolled throughout the clearing and coated everything in a thick vein of dusty haze! Somewhere in the middle of the mist, devils clashed...Futsunushi's spiritual signature dissipated instantly, and Tam Lin's spirit retreated into the tube from whence it had come shortly thereafter...making it clear for just that moment between them which of the sides of devils had come out victorious from the clash!

...Wynn and Talisa remained standing amidst the dust, their spells having laid low the allies of the Great Summoner!

...

And as the smoke began to clear there was a flash of steel between either of the devils, Wynn and Talisa fading into magnetite and returning themselves to their tubes in an instant. And with a flash of black and an impact of foot against face, their summoner was leveled from his feet and crashed back-first into the dirt, skidding alone with the weight of his master balanced atop of him until they had at last come to rest beyond the lingering smoke...with Kyouji's foot pinning her apprentice to the ground beneath her, defeated.

"Congratulations," she smirked playfully as she looked down at him, pulling back her foot to look him in the face, her smile easing slightly to become more plainly pleased as she watched him, "You pa-"

...

She had nearly forgotten the apprentice who had lasted the longest of all of them, until the blunt end of his cane thrust powerfully and remarkably swiftly at the side of her cheek. Twisting her body away on instinct, she couldn't avoid the clear connection with the tanned cheek that forced her to spin against a circle to avoid the worst...the whirling of her body allowing her to sweep a leg smoothly through the backs of Yatsuda's knees, lifting him from his base before an elbow crushed smoothly down into the middle of his sternum, dropping him to the dirt below in one smooth series of moves that would leave him gasping for air beneath her...but ultimately successful in his pursuit of a clean blow against her.

"I win..." the way she said it was playful, almost sing-song...but it wasn't taunting or teasing that shone upon her lips as the hood fell away from her violet hair. It was a smooth, proud smirk...the extended hand on either side of her aiming to lift her two nearest apprentices from the ground to stand beside her. "But all of you, to the last, should be proud of how far you've come. To push a Great Summoner to these extremes...to master the techniques that you have...it's my honor to call every one of you not just my apprentice...but an ally of the Yatagarasu...and the future of the Four Great Summoners, the Kuzunoha."

A deep breath filled her lungs as the morning's training session came to an end...she couldn't remember the last time she had been quite so exhausted so early (when she wasn't wrapping up some night-long mission, at least).

...

It was a Hell of a feeling, wasn't it? Training the next generation to replace you...especially strange at such a young age as her own. But hers was a line of work that could end in death at any moment. Connections such as these were discouraged, unusual, and a very welcome surprise. Her lips remained curled into that smirk as she finished pulling the two up to their feet...their master's arms looping smoothly over each of their shoulders, pulling them tighter against her side tight enough to dig their shoulders into the aching flesh at the side of her chest. It was an unusual gesture of familiarity for anyone who bore the name Kyouji...

...But what about any of this was normal? And if you asked her, who really cared? Didn't they deserve this much?

...

"And now that the game's over," she smirked as she pulled Shu in particular long with her at her side, dragging the two apprentices towards the entrance to her small estate with little interest in any protests they might have offered, "Let's have a drink. To celebrate...and don't even bother telling me you have somewhere else to be. Apprentices don't get to question their masters' orders, right?"

Asuka sat up on the ground, a hand held to her head, as she turned to see the last of the dust clear.
Her smile was wide as she heard Kyouji's words of praise, it seemed they had all impressed her, and for Asuka, she couldn't ask for more, They had all fought with everything they had, Asuka, herself had fought even more fiercely than usual, then again, she was fighting against a much stronger opponent, adapt and overcome, as it were. "A drink... That sounds like an excellent idea." Asuka said with a smile, looking her master's way. She shook off the cobwebs and stood up, starting to follow Kyouji, before her previous master caught her eye, "Will you be joining us too, Rai- I-I mean... Mir-Sama?" She caught herself before speaking the name of her previous title, "S-Sorry, I've been calling you 'Raidou-Sama' for so long... I guess I need to get used to your new title." A slightly nervous smile crossed her face, as she scratched the back of her head.

Mir

Mir laughed slightly as she moved at an easy pace, then put one hand on Asuka's head and lightly ruffled her hair. "Everything changes." she said, seeming quite amused overall. "Which is why I want to know if you're ready to advance in your training even further and become my apprentice, with an eye towards the title of Ciela Kuzunoha the II." She was going to need some assistance with all of those documents, after all, and Asuka's talents might be the most useful in this area, rather than as an agent being sent all over the country on various missions. Things tended to work out better when people used their talents to their fullest extent.

Asuka mused happily, feeling her mentor's hand on her head. She enjoyed the simple affection, before her eyes opened wide at Mir's next words, "R...Really?" Her eyes turned misty for a moment, before, in an uncontrolled display, threw herself at Mir, wrapping her arms around her, tears beginning to stream down her face, She hugged her master tight, she was being given the oppertunity to be the second in a new Kuzunoha line, a potential chance to have her name engraved into history, "Yes... Yes, I'd love to!"

Mir

The Great Summoner simply nodded, accepting Asuka's feelings as they were and letting the girl enjoy her moment of happiness. Such feelings weren't terribly bad, after all, and a heck of a lot better than the attitudes of some people she could name. With that in mind... "So, a question for all of you." she said, eventually pulling back from Asuka and sitting down on the steps of the house. "After the training you've been through lately, what do you think is the most important part of being a Summoner of the Yatagarasu?" she slowly gazed around the group. Many might have laughed at these children, and assumed that they would never be able to stand up to the rigors of the real world... but they'd thought that of the entire organization, and the Crows still flew.
