“You made this? That’s so cool!” Shiloh said impressed. He pushed up Ian’s sleeve so he could get a better look at it, and ran his fingers over the little embroidered bumps of thread, over the pattern of ducks. He stared at it, a bit in awe. He was touched, honestly, that Ian had thought to make something like this, especially under the circumstances that he’d made it. It just reminded him that Ian hadn’t given up on him, it reminded him of all the times Ian came and sat with him in that small room, all the hours he spent reading or talking.

He looked back up at Ian, only to find Ian’s face flushed and him brushing off the bracelet as if it were nothing. Shiloh smiled, all warm and flutter himself, and he resumed wrapping his arms around Ian and giving him his kiss, practically flattening him against the bed as he did so.

“Okay, if you say it’s no big deal, it’s no big deal,” he laughed, his grin wide. “No big deal that you made a super awesome little bracelet that has ducks all over it. You must like me or something, huh?”

"Yes, well," said Ian, now thoroughly embarrassed by the discovery of said bracelet. He'd been hoping to keep it quiet, at least until things settled down, but apparently that wasn't about to be the case, since Shiloh was now carefully and curiously examining it. "I had a lot of...time on my hands, you know."

He opened his mouth to say something, caught sight of Shiloh's smiling face, and then whatever else he was going to say sort of died in his throat, since Shiloh had decided to go ahead with his previous kiss. Which, Ian determined, as he fell backwards, was just fine with him, and he returned it with enthusiasm, lacing an arm around Shiloh's shoulders.

Lying on his back, Ian looked up at his boyfriend, and his face was still flushed, cheeks reddening slightly. "I don't like you," he said petulantly, but if the way he pulled Shiloh down again for another kiss was any indication, this was, in fact, a total an complete lie.

"Okay," Ian said breathlessly, a few moments later when he was suitably pleased with his Shiloh-kisses (at least for the next five minutes). "I lied, I really do like you. A lot, okay, which is why I made the bracelet in the first place."

He shook his head a little, his dark hair sprawled over the bed. "I thought it might, you know, remind me of you, um...later."

He was admitting too much again. Ian coughed, pushing himself vertical again, one arm still around Shiloh's waist to keep him on his lap. "Well, anyway," he said, and reached for his own bag of presents, shoving it against Shiloh's chest. "Here. Your turn."

"Liar," Shiloh panted with certain softness as they finally broke apart, his voice low, his skin flushed. But his mouth was covered before he could say more, as Ian pulled him down for another kiss, and another, and another, all of sweet, lingering, and leaving him breathless. It was by far the best present Ian could have given him, himself, and Shiloh savored it, savored the way they unwrapped each other little by little until they both had to come up for air, and Shiloh smiled at Ian’s admission, that he liked him too.

He knew it, obviously, by the way Ian had stayed by his side, by the way he carefully wrapped his arms around him, but it felt good to here it, and, a little smitten, he made himself comfortable in Ian’s lap, ignoring the sadness of the what-ifs the reasoning behind Ian’s bracelet threatened to bring forth, instead focusing on the present, and that things were okay, and that he possibly had landed the most, for lack of a better word, adorable boyfriend on the planet.

“I like you too, Ian, and I like the bracelet. It’s cute… You’re cute.” He had to resist the urge to lean in again, for the sake of getting anything accomplished. “And you didn’t have to get me anything you know, really. But thank-you.”

He reached for the bag of presents, shooting a curious glance at Ian before turning his attention back to opening the bag. He had no idea what Ian could have gotten him and when he pulled out the training gloves first, his face lit up, and he nearly dropped the entire thing.

“Oh man, these are perfect!” he enthused, holding them up to admire them. “They’re gonna be great for holding Haruko-,” a slight pause, a thoughtful look, “She likes them too.”

He grinned, and unable to resist any further, gave Ian a quick peck on the cheek before rooting into the bag again. The moisturizer was pulled out of it’s box next, and Shiloh couldn’t help but chuckle. He was sure they could make good use of that, as he set it next to the gloves. Then came the hoodie, and he held it up happily, like the gloves.

“It’s perfect,” he said, before hugging it to himself. “It’s so soft, I love it.”

He toyed with the idea of putting it on, but that also meant he’d likely have to take it off again in the next few minutes when he planned on thanking Ian properly, so he folded it as neatly as he could and set it beside his other things. The bracelets, however, came out of their wrapping and went straight to his wrist, which he held up to Ian’s.

“Look, now we match,” he laughed, before reaching into the bag again and pulling out another gift. He carefully unwrapped it, and smiled at the wallet inside, shaking his head much like Ian had. “And now you’ve really spoiled me, Ian, geeze, what am I going to do with you, huh?”

He turned the leather over gently in his hands, marveling at the smooth buttery feel of it. He wasn’t sure what he’d done to deserve all these things but he was certain that he loved each and every one of them.

Shiloh was sure the wallet had to be the last thing, but he checked the bag just in case, and pulled out the last two items with surprise. The liquor bottles made him laugh, but the rose, it was cheesy and silly but his laughter quieted as he stared at it, twirling it in the air a little.

“I take it back, you’re the biggest goofball,” he said, turning to look at Ian with a gigantic smile.

Ian wrapped his arms around Shiloh's waist and propped his chin up on his shoulder, curling himself around his boyfriend. Shiloh just seemed to fit with him, comfortable and cozy in the circle of his arms and the perfect size for the width of his chest. Not to mention that Ian hadn't been able to do much more than squeeze uncomfortably side by side in a hospital bed for so long that he had almost forgotten what it was like to be so close.

No, that wasn't true, he amended himself. He never forgot what Shiloh felt like; it was more that he'd let himself be numb to everything so that when they were apart for so long it had felt physically painful. If he'd been selfish before when it came to Shiloh's attention and affection, now he was downright greedy for it.

With each present opened and Shiloh's subsequent happiness, pleasure quickly spread through Ian's mind, pushing aside the darker thoughts, shoving them to the back in favor of better ones. Ian gave a laugh that rumbled through his chest against Shiloh's back and buried his face between his shoulder blades.

"You're so ******** cute," he said, his voice muffled. He knew the phrase was one of Shiloh's least favorite, but it was true, at least at this moment in time. Ian turned his head to look again when Shiloh grew quiet, wondering which present he'd gotten to.

"Oh," he said. The red tinfoil covered rose had been a spur-of-the-moment gift, a last minute addition that was simultaneously cheesy and vaguely embarrassing for someone who was not generally known for being a romantic; but at the same time, Ian had not quite been able to pass by getting one.

"I'm pretty sure that's you, actually," said Ian with a snort, but his expression was affectionate - and oddly, a little pained, almost as though he were waging some sort of internal war with himself. He tightened his arms around Shiloh's waist and ducked his head to kiss his neck, inhaling his scent and burrowing himself into his warmth. Ian closed his eyes, rocking slightly side to side.

"Merry Christmas."

The presents were perfect, the way Ian’s arms wrapped around him was perfect, and the warmth of his breath against his neck was even more perfect still, and Shiloh wiggled a bit in Ian’s lap, not uncomfortable but because he wasn’t sure how to contain the happiness he felt at that very moment. It was certainly a Christmas where he had a lot to be thankful for, even if the day had already past; the sentiment hit him hard as he glanced down at the rose in his hands, staring past it at the sight of Ian’s hands folded beneath his own.

“Am not,” he mumbled, though to whether it was to being cute or a goofball, it wasn’t clear. Words seemed a little silly at the moment. He had no idea how he was supposed to convey just how thankful he was, for being alive, for being with Ian, for everything, in a sentence. It seemed impossible, and far too heavy to think about for such a happy occasion so as Ian wished him a ‘Merry Christmas’, Shiloh abandoned any pretense of pride or seriousness, as he carefully unwrapped the foil from around the rose.

He broke off a small piece of the chocolate, and fidgeted around until he was facing Ian, his face bright and the bit of rose now held between his teeth.

“Merry Christmas, Ian,” he grinned, before leaning in to share his chocolate.

Ian pressed a few more kisses to Shiloh's neck, letting out a soft hum against his skin. "You are," he mumbled, and his arms curled more comfortably around his boyfriend's waist. "I know you don't think so, but you are cute, and I like that about you."

Shiloh shifted, which was both a good and bad idea for Ian, and he lifted both his arms and his head to let him move, settling them back down around him once Shiloh was facing him. Ian arched a brow and then he laughed, the sound rumbling deep in his chest.

"Yeah, definitely cute," he said, and sank into the kiss, an explosion of sweetness on his tongue, the taste of chocolate heavy in his mouth. Ian smiled against Shiloh's lips, his hands already moving to the hem of his shirt and sliding beneath it.

"So how about that offer earlier, hmm?" he murmured, leaning back until he was flat on the bed with Shiloh above him. A grin spread across Ian's lips. "About redos?"

His teeth graze gently over Ian’s lip at being called cute, but with such tantalizing sweetness right in front of him, there was no time to explain exactly how not cute he was, especially not with the way Ian’s hands were sliding under his shirt, full of intention as together they fell back onto the bed, the sugary treat melted away between their mouths.

He couldn’t help but laugh at the mention of redos, and he leaned down just enough that their bodies met in all the right places, Shiloh’s hips resting against Ian’s as he sought out Ian’s neck this time, instead of his lips, pressing teasingly affectionate kisses to the smooth skin he found there.

“I think it’s more like thank-dos now, but the methodology’s the same.”

He'd told himself he wasn't going to do this, that he was going to try and prove to Shiloh that he was not just in this relationship for this because he wanted so desperately for it to work out; but Shiloh was warm and responsive against him, and Ian was already starting to forget his earlier promise to himself. The addicting kisses to his neck were not helping much either, considering that it was usually the opposite, with Ian being the forward one.

Which really left only one possible solution.

"See? Like I said," Ian growled out with a shout of laughter that would reverberate against Shiloh's chest, his hands doing a bit of shameless wandering before moving to firmly grasp his hips. "You sure learn fast, duck."

Then he promptly dragged Shiloh's mouth back to his to continue said thank-dos.
