Screaming and yelling would have been normal. Heck, he would have welcomed it, even, but no, of course Sherry was different. Even now: even after everything he had out her through, she still showed concern.

If there was one thing Sherry was good at, it was turning the worst of her emotions in and not inflicting them on others. Even if Armagnac was certain Jake deserved every ounce of anger Sherry held. But Sherry would certainly do her best not to let it out now, with a titan stomping around above her with Jake on it's back. And certainly not after he said that.
"Out of time? Then what happens after this?" She was genuinely curious, and concerned. Damn her soft, squishy heart.

He would have oven her a sad smile if he could, or perhaps he did, but it wasn't like she could see him.
"I go and see Caelius. I haven't been able to summon Chester, but I hear him from time to time. I don't think that'd be enough to convince him, but perhaps..."
There was no use. Sherry's optimism only affected him for so long, and considering she hated his guts right now, he found that he didn't really seem to care much with what happened with him. At least it didn't affect his determination with seeing this patrol through to the very end.

"I don't know. If I manage to summon Chester, it'd help a lot, but hopefully he'll see the patrols and side missions and be lenient."

This time she did sigh. Caelius wasn't known for his leniency. "I'm sorry I couldn't have been of more help to you." Sherry didn't know what to say. If Jake couldn't summon Chester, there was little she could do, even before she'd known the truth.
Sherry shook her head. "You might be a lying jerk, but you don't deserve a lot of what's come your way." She couldn't fix it, and she shouldn't want to.

Jake actually had the gall to let out a laugh. For a moment, he was worried she might have forgiven him already.
"You've been plenty of help. And you're wrong, but thank you."
Her words only brought back a painful reminder, and he did his best to block it out, concentrating on the Titan.

His laugh soured the look on her face, but she doubted her mood could get any more sour than it was. Or confused. "I might be wrong about a lot of things, Jake, but I am not wrong about this. You're misguided, but you're not evil. And I'm not saying that just because I'm nice."
At this rate she was going to yell at him.

Somewhere between his laughter and his last words, her anger had come roaring back into life. It was hot and it burned in her chest. Sherry clenched her fists and didn't say anything for a few heartbeats while she willed the anger into something cooler, something more manageable. Now was not the time to go losing her head, not with a Titan more than willing to smash it to pieces.
"Don't you dare tell me what is better for me to know and not know, Jake. You can keep your stupid little secrets, but don't make judgements about what's best for me. You don't get that right." She wasn't yelling, though she was close to it.

Jake grit his teeth, trying not to let his own frustrations show. He may have been stubborn, but she was just as bad.
"You're right. I can't decide for you, but at the very least, I can decide for myself. You keep deluding yourself on false thoughts about me, and you say I'm stubborn and reckless, but you're no better. You would have never for yourself into this sort of situation if you just listened to me or your weapon, so you only have yourself to blame for all this."
It wasn't entirely true, but right now, he was at wit's end. What did it take to get THROUGH to her?

True, he could make all of his own decisions. True, she was foolish and weak and soft and hopeful and that all amounted to her greatest weakness. True, it was her fault she was standing there right at that moment keeping an eye on a Titan trying to keep it from killing them both. However...
"I did listen to you. And you lied, repeatedly. Your words, your actions, all just one big giant lie to get me to stand here and help you with these damn Titans. Hell, I'm still doing it. I don't know even know why."
"The only honest thing you told me was that you can't summon Chester, and I already knew that. So don't give me grief for not listening to you, because I did that. I might have been deluding myself, but you knew I was." She paused to take a breath, and wanted to kick herself for letting her temper start to get the better of her. She didn't even know what her point was anymore.
"And I'm still here, damn it all." She was scolding herself now.

"I wasn't--" She stopped and took a deep breath. She didn't think she'd been whining about it, but he said she was, and so did Armagnac (but Armagnac was beyond biased at this point). "Fine. I won't whine about it." I won't even mention it. It never happened. Cold emptiness welled up again.
"But I won't just leave, not while Beastie there is still thrashing around." He really should know her better than that. "So hurry up."

And she said HE was stubborn and arrogant.
The Titan seemed to be moving around a bit more, letting loose sprays of electrical current. That meant his attacks must have been starting to agitate it, and he was getting close to weakening it. Rather than talk back, he decided to focus on hitting.
