Jake was probably worse than a princess golem.

"It's not your fault! I should be-"
The titan decided to move again, making him stumble back into a spine, wincing slightly as the shield buffered him from getting shocked, but getting thrown forward wasn't much fun either. This must have been how a dog felt, being shackled down and unable to move around, but it was either that, or risking a hefty fall and possibly getting crushed as the titan moved again. It wasn't that the gear was faulty, but nothing was ever perfect, especially when it came to unpredictable titans.

"Still not your fault!"
He needed to teach this thing some manners.

He certainly could be (she remembered a certain mission or two). But today he wasn’t, happily.

Sherry shook her head. But that was the whole of her job here, keeping him alive. That meant making sure he didn’t get hurt repeatedly by the spines and the beast and all that. So if he was getting hurt, that was her fault, in her mind anyway. “I’ll still try to keep a better eye on things!” She yelled it and smiled.

“Like that one! To the right!” It wasn’t sparking too much, but it was worth noting.

It didn’t help things to have the titan still trying to lumber around on its tether. It made her job harder, and she was pretty sure it was contributing to Jake’s troubles. Hrm.

“Careful!”

He never thought he'd saw the day when fighting titans became pretty much a daily routine. This was... kinda sad.
This time, he was able to hear Sherry call out, and saw her gesture in right direction. Turning just in time, he caught sight of the sparking spine, and wasted no time dispatching it.

"Thanks! I got it this time."
Perhaps if he wasn't so tired, he'd be able to hold his ground more, but it was only a bit more. In a few more days, he could relax. Or, well, permanently relax he suppose, if he didn't end up meeting Caelius' expectations.

Just a little more, Chester. Wait for me.

Fighting anything was not something Sherry ever thought she’d do, but here she was. Even if she wasn’t the one actively trying to drive blades into something, she was still here, fighting.

“Good!” As long as they could keep up teamwork like that, they had this thing. Lumbering titan or not, they’d brought down a handful of others, this one would be no different, surely.

The anchor was holding strong, as she knew it would, but she did keep sparing glances for it. She’d been here long enough to know things were never too easy. Shopping had been a prime example of that. Anything could go sideways.

But not everything went off course. Sherry let herself have one little sigh of relief at the fact that things were still going relatively smoothly here. Now if it would just last.

If anything, this should hopefully pacify Armagnac's cry for blood.
... or perhaps not, considering Sherry wasn't doing any actual attacking, but the thought of Sherry up here instead of him was quite worrying indeed, especially after the last time (never mind the fact that his wipe was probably a lot worse).

Jake grinned and gave her a thumb's up as she shouted a word of encouragement. That was true, they had already taken down 4, so this one shouldn't be too hard to take down, and weren't there upgrades if they took down enough titans? He couldn't wait to get rid of all those nicotine patches. They were stinking up his room.

This was doing very little to keep Armagnac satisfied. As far as she was concerned she was being underutilized and she and her hunter should be the ones doing damage to the beast. Jake was clearly too weak for such things. Of course, Armagnac was still waiting for the titan to eat Jake, so Sherry wasn’t really listening to the weapon’s rants anyway.

Closer, they had to be getting closer. How much more time did the equipment need? How much time had passed? It was so easy to lose track of such things, what with everything going on.

“I think we’re almost there! Just a bit longer!” It was possible that she was way off though, and giving Jake nothing but false hope.

False hope was better than none, as was the hope that after all this, perhaps, he would have enough mental and physical capacity to bring Chester back. That was the only reason he wasn't able to re-summon him, because he wasn't strong enough, right? It wasn't because Chester was ignoring him, or couldn't hear him, or...

"Yah, I think so too!"
No, he had to keep positive. None of this pessimism. What would Chester say when he came back? Jake let out a soft chuckle as he imagined the nergal's response, chiding him for lacking confidence.

Don't worry, buddy, I won't let you-

The titan suddenly let out a roar, startling him, and took a step back, tripping and falling back against a charged spine, wincing.

Another cringe as Jake hit the spine. She couldn’t help it, she just had to cringe in sympathy when he got shocked. It couldn’t feel good, could it? Sherry highly doubted it.

She smiled as she nodded. They’d been at this for a bit, and the beast already seemed a bit slower than it had been earlier. If that wasn’t a sign they were almost done with this beast, Sherry didn’t want to know. She liked thinking positively.

Maybe she and Jake should have another sit down and a serious talk about this Chester thing. Though…Sherry didn’t think Jake would want to talk about it too much, he wasn’t the type. And there wasn’t much she could do to help anyway.

Except offer her support. “How’s your shield?”

Perhaps if he shocked himself enough, he'd build tolerance, and it'd only feel like static electricity. That was how resistance and tolerance worked, right?
... it was probably a good thing he wasn't a doctor... or life hunter.
But no, it never felt good. If anything, it hurt, every single time. Damn it, did that mean he wasn't improving? Why did it always hurt?

Positive thinking was good, but Jake was tired, the titan was still moving, and he just wanted to get this over with... only to end up fighting another one. Jake sighed heavily and stared at another spine. What has his life come to?

To be honest, he hadn't talked so much since during the infirmary, and, well, this wasn't her problem to deal with. He knew she'd be worried, but this was something he had to do, himself. If he wasn't even capable of something like this.

"I'm good, don't worry!"
He knew it had been weakened a bit from the frequent tumbles and shocks, but surely it was enough to take several more hits.

She was still going to worry. If she didn’t worry, she’d end up letting him run himself into the ground fighting these things. Or let him get too carried away and never heal or something else just as silly and terrible.

Tired as she was, she knew he had to be tired, too. And she knew the pressure he was under was far worse than what she was feeling. Again, Sherry was cursing the fact that there was not a whole lot she could do to help. It was all on Jake, and that…made sense but didn’t make it any easier to sit by and not do much.

“Okay!” He probably couldn’t see the scrutinizing look she gave him. They’d been at this long enough a heal was probably due sometime soon. Especially with all those shocks.

It was probably a good thing both were worrying, but worrying usually never got them any results, other than unpleasant feelings. He was almost relieved all this ordeal would be over soon. Even if Caelius decided to execute him, at least he wouldn't have to fight titans anymore. But Sherry...

Jake groaned. He really needed to stop this habit of pessimistic thoughts. Hadn't Chester taught him better? No matter what he did, the nergal always told him to cheer up and look on the bright side of things, no matter how grim their situation was. Surely he wouldn't want him looking down on himself, and if he were to go... what would happen to him?

Distracted, he hadn't noticed the spine behind him sparking up, giving him a nasty shock.
Or.. it would have if he didn't have that shield.

"Still ok!" he called out.

If only. Sherry didn’t like the phrase, because it usually held some sort of regret or want with it. She tried to accept her lot in life, tried to keep things on the positive. But sometimes it was hard. Like when you couldn’t be of proper help to someone, especially if you cared about that person. Like now.

Whatever thoughts her mind was working through were not helped by the sight of Jake getting shocked again. She should be doing better at this and keeping that from happening. He needed to focus on weakening the beast. “Sorry!”

The titan seemed rather sparky at the moment, as Sherry noted more than one spike showing signs of electric life. “And watch it! Behind you!” She only wished she could actually help more.

She also started digging out those bandages.

Titan patrols alone were already tons of help, considering the fact that that was pretty much all he could do... and wasn't lethal. HH battles were definitely out of the question, for now (even if his last one, while not a horseman, had been a little... "strange"), and even most external missions needed at least a 3rd party (he supposed that mall one had been some sort of exception). There just wasn't any time, and he didn't want to drag anyone else into his problems, so it seemed it would have to be Sherry. Poor Sherry having to constantly put up with him... seriously, she was a saint.

He heard Sherry call out, and wished she hadn't seen that. It was his own fault for not paying attention.
"Don't worry, I'm fine!"
Or, well, relatively. He winced slightly from some lingering electricity, but really, it wasn't too bad.

In Sherry’s eyes, it wasn’t really all that much trouble to help him out. She enjoyed it, more or less. Not the potential for hurt and suffering of course, but the helping. She enjoyed helping, even if she felt she could be doing a better job of it.

“How fine are you?” There! She finished digging out a bandage. “Do you need a bandaid yet?” She was serious, even if Jake couldn’t see her using her serious face. “Because they are ready to go when you need them!”

Hopefully he wouldn’t need more than one or two, and hopefully this beast was as close to exploding as she thought it was. The longer this wore on, the more tired she became. He had best be planning to rest a bit after this one. Just a bit, it didn’t even have to be long.

Seriously, Sherry was a godsend. She was always eager to help, super nice, forgave easily, got along with others well... it made him wonder why anyone else hadn't fallen for her. No way someone like her would find interest in someone like him. It didn't make any sense at all.

"I'm, um...okImightneedsomehelp."
Band-aid. Really? Sherry, he wasn't 4. It was probably a good thing she couldn't see his face from here, or, at least, not clearly, as it was quite red by now. So embarrassing.

He hoped it would be down soon too. Really, titan, stop making a fool out of him.
