The bite of tiny claws and teeth was distantly and naggingly familiar as they tried to pull him down, not individually but the mass of the whole - he was on the verge of panic and he didn't know why.

Panic slowly overtook him, memories from a time when he'd had no power to fight at all creeping in and throwing him off his stride. He had no energy left, his body was failing him, the shadows pressing in all around him, relentless and untiring, pinning him to the floor with their weight, more sharp claws joining the others.
He heard the voices coming to his rescue, but he didn't see them as he let himself slip into the pure raw blackness of his mind.
