"I doubt his underlings would forward my correspondence to him. I don't have enough weight in the company to get to him half the time really. I have to make personal visits and even then I have to schedule a meeting ahead of time." he looked rather defeated at the admission. "He is very busy you see. And likely even more busy now that I've ceased shuffling a lot of the businesses paperwork and wages."
He sat on the space he'd cleared on the desk. "Even if I did somehow get through to him, he's not so busy that he wouldn't come find me."

Barth's father was a demon of appetite, and he'd lived in unholy terror of him for most of his life. His grandfather was deeply dangerous. His mother's side of the family were alright, elemental demons, Earth mostly.
If he'd been a Soil or Bog demon, things might have been easier.
He had spent a great deal of time slithering out from under the weight of expectation.
"But well, err, maybe you can convince him your career is...moving in a different direction."

"As much as I would like to have my father's attention for the right reasons, I tend to get it for all the wrong ones. My mother on the other hand - sometimes I feel like she treats me more like a client than her son. She's very friendly and all but it's like the connection behind it all just isn't there." He paused, giving Barth a look as if just registering that he was there all over again, checking himself mentally that he was pouring his heart out to another demon who likely didn't care one single iota about his problems short of as a means against him later.
And yet, with that being all he had, he didn't seem to mind too much.
"I will certainly have to try and convince him of that, because the fact of the matter is that my career is indeed shifting. And since I've started turning my attention in those directions.. I feel healthier? My wings have started mending. Something is different."

"My father is called Alvadra, in charge of a large company which primarily deals in shipping. Shipping all manner of things, transport is a very thriving industry at the moment, there is always a need to move goods and sometimes individuals across Halloween. He deals in the human world too, though not on the official books, he is a demon. Though he has never told me what kind, he changes it every time I ask.." he shrugged his shoulders. "Most people have likely never heard of him."
"My mother on the other hand garners a lot more attention and is familiar to many more people. She goes by Aura as her stage name so to speak. She is a succubus and successful at what she does. At least she needs never feel threatened by yours truly here."
He shook his head despairingly. "Needless to say, I make neither of them particularly proud. "

"I find when err, people are used to being in charge, you're more likely to find competition than approval." Barth said. "I'm inclined towards it myself, from time to time. Demons can be dangerous company. Some demons. Do you have anything to drink?"

"Some demons." Zar repeated with just a hint of bitterness. Not him, clearly.
He glanced over at the side cabinet and his expression remained blank. He looked back. "No." Restocking his drinks required funds he didn't have.

"I would like to be hospitable but I am making no money at all at present." he was a little uncomfortable that Barth might have thought he was fishing for charity. Sometimes he was glad he wasn't a Pride demon, he'd be betraying everything he was just by existing.
He eyed Barth distantly, curious about his family but resisting the urge to pry, social questions as a demon tended to be fishing for leverage and power. He wouldn't know what to do with it if he had either.
"If they cut me off completely I expect I will have to resort to living like a monster."

Barth had seemed depressed at the answer, but reexamined Zar at the response.
"Ah. Financial straights. ...Something from the tap's alright," Barth suggested cautiously.
"I shouldn't like to see you living uncomfortably."

Zar gave the other demon a slightly despairing look at his comment, stricken by the idea of giving a guest low grade drinks. His tail twisted and wrung the air behind him anxiously as he also felt there was something he wasn't quite getting - though he had no clue what it was.
"I shouldn't either, but there you go." he shook his head. "And drinks wise that's fine? I just feel terrible offering free hospitality."

Zar raised a brow, hovered uncertainly and then tottered off to fetch a glass of water, which he held out with the same degree of uncertainty.

Barth took the water, and drank from it slowly.
"I also have one father, and one mother. My father, who goes by Ardenter, is a gluttony demon. His father is a greed demon, and his brother a sloth demon, and so on. He runs a...large household. I am my mother's only child. She's an earth elemental. On the...slime, side of things. My surname, Mudd, comes from her."
He considered the drink.
"And I am very, very, very wealthy."
