"I knew what I was doing," Jordan said quietly, and looked up. "I'm not walking away, so quit being a martyr about it. If you have to be somewhere else for it, okay. But you're coming back. I'm not letting you off that easily."
He scowled. "I'm still ******** pissed at you, but you don't get to run off to sulk alone."

"You're asking me when I get in trouble? It's every time I step off the base. The kind of trouble you get me into is ******** nothing. You want the score? I've lost some money. I've done stupid trainee-level chores, for free, for you. I worry when you get in deep s**t, and I've thrown in with you, even when it wasn't smart. But we've got more money than we came here with, all that's intact. You and Jordan got me back from the Crown. From lava, from b-bugs, from- from a lot. None of that was from you. I know I'm supposed to be the one protecting you, but-"
He took Rep's shirt, and pulled him back so he was sitting on the bed.
"You can't leave."

"I'm no being a martyr." he snapped, passing hurt off as anger in his sharpness. "I just can't ******** stand the idea of sitting here while people go through my stuff. If you must know it reminds me too much of sitting in the next room while ******** pigs talked about my house, about my mum, about me and thought I couldn't ******** hear them." He didn't add that he'd been earnestly considering how feasible it was to get away from them both and stay away, to protect them with his absence. Only it wasn't feasible at all, he couldn't imagine how it would work. "And why are you pissed?" he asked Jordan, as earnest as he could manage. "Dwight said on twitter that people with gaps should talk to their division leader, I mentioned I'd been weird, he said he'd send someone round. I didn't know it was so serious. And my hoard...it's just my stuff, I need it. It's how I've always been. I didn't do it just to piss you off. I didn't do any of this to piss anyone off."
As Harrison spoke up he bowed his head deferentially, he didn't agree, he couldn't understand how he could think that he didn't get into trouble on his behalf when the sword hanging over their heads was always there, and it was his fault.
He sat down without protest, completely compliant to Harrison's whims despite his upset.
"You are right, I can't." he said looking from one of them to the other, with just a hint of despair. "It would be a lot easier if I could."

Jordan gave Rep a pained look. "I'm pissed partly because you kept the rotting s**t in the dorm room when you know that disgusts most people, but mostly because you snapped back at a division lead, since they're perfectly capable of killing people for being annoying if they feel like it. We're not as disposable as we were as trainees, but we're not capable of fighting any of the leads with a chance of winning, so avoiding pissing them off is important. I'd prefer you alive and here. If here's not an option, I'll take alive."
He rubbed a hand over his eyes, sighing. "I know you're not trying to piss anyone off, other than on Twitter when you're bored. I didn't know about the damn implants either, but when someone in charge is asking directly, better not to lie, because having them find later that you lied is worse." As always, once the immediate heat of fury had passed, he was left feeling tired and hollow and not inclined to fight further.

"Could have been anything. Risk to us that was time-sensitive. Hard to tell," Harrison agreed.
He held out a hand for Jordan, drawing him near.
"There's losing, and there's lost. And today, I've got you both."
