Al sniffed, "Bumped it? I don't know what you're talking about."
Al looked pained between looking weak and apparently looking like a loser. "It wasn't real cheating." He danced.

"The bandages are okay? Like, not too tight or anything?" Noah folded the dirty bandages into a neat packet of paper towels that he could take out to dispose of somewhere other than the trash can in his room. Clothes on the floor and unmade beds were one thing, but bloody used bandages were another thing entirely. "How often do you have to change them?"
He gave Al a look that was somewhere between puzzled and suspicious. "Then why'd you get stabbed?"

Al was breathing shallowly. They were in fact slightly too tight. "Nope. I'm good." Liar.
"But, I dunno. I just did when I saw blood. I think this is the last one anyway." He smiled before looking somewhat sick at a follow up question. "Don't ask me. Death leader is strict."

"Okay. I can help again if you need me to," Noah offered. He turned to get Al's shirt from the chair, because please put a shirt on now oh god. "I used to hurt myself a lot when I was a kid, so I learned to do first aid." This probably seemed all the more likely after he'd managed to knock his chair over just by waking up.
"I guess maybe he thought it was cheating," he theorized. He shot a sideways glance at Al as he offered him his shirt back. "Life division leader is sort of scary. Like, the kind of scary where you never want to make him mad because you don't want to find out what he'd do even if you don't know."

"I guess I should be happy that at least I know my leader will be stabbing me." He did appear to be quite concerned though at the admittance that Noah had hurt himself. "On purpose?" He asked as a follow-up to be sure while slipping the shirt on over his head and turning it around his neck for the proper arm holes.

"He must've stabbed you pretty hard if it went right through your weapon protecting you," Noah said, frowning. "That's freaky."
He shook his head again at the question. "Just, like. Falling down and stuff. Mom stopped letting me help in the kitchen pretty early. I cut my finger open and had to get stitches trying to cut an apple one time," he offered, and held his hand out to display a scar still faintly visible on the index finger. "Stuff like that."

Al eyed the scar while looking clearly impressed by it. "Do you have more?"

"A few." Noah twisted around to show Al a scar that skidded across the back of his elbow. "Riding a bike down a steep hill in the woods is a really bad idea," he said by way of explanation. "Um, there's one on my foot from stepping on a nail once, and one on my knee from falling off a merry-go-round on the playground and not letting go fast enough. It's kind of dumb. It's not like any of them are from cool stuff or badass fights or anything. Just stupid accidents." He looked sheepish.

"Scars are ******** awesome. They're like. Letters on a book cover and s**t. They tell part of a story without giving it all away. Or whatever." Al tugged his shirt down completely and then pointed at the area of his bandages. "I hope this one becomes a scar." He admitted without shame.

"But then when people ask me what I got scars from I gotta tell them that I had stupid accidents. At least you can say you got stabbed, huh?" Noah eyed the bandage. "It looked like it was pretty clean, so it's probably not gonna be a huge scar."
IF YOU GET BROKEN AGAIN I WILL FIX YOU, Lazarus put in suddenly.
"Uh." Noah looked a little disturbed. "Laz just said if I get broken he'll fix me. Um, do we scar now?"

"Naw. If anyone makes fun of your awesome scars I'll punch them for you, kay?" He didn't look like he was joking. He wasn't.
"Yeah. I know some hunters who are covered in scars I'm pretty sure we still do."

Noah laughed. "Okay. I'll remember that."
I WILL FIX YOU. EVEN IF SOMETIMES IT LEAVES MARKS.
"Laz, you're creepy," Noah muttered, then, louder, "I hope I don't get too many, I guess. Not yet, anyway."

"You shouldn't," Al cracked a little smile. "You guys aren't front line like us... we need you guys in one piece to keep us from bleeding all over the place n' s**t." He let out a quick harsh laugh. "But if you did. You'd just be cooler."

Cooler? Al thought he was cool. Noah broke into a bright smile. "Thanks! I'll help anytime you need!"

Yup. He did, but he also did not mean for that fact to slip.
"Cool cool, 'cause at this rate it may be a lot." He arched his eyebrows. "I also still need to lend you that shirt. If you're not too busy, meet me at my room sometime?"
